I love this video! It showcases the flight and not the pilot. Many VLOGs on UA-cam focus on the pilot's face. Your video shows the beauty of North Carolina. And your narration is helpful in following the flight. Great job!
Nice work - that full power climb after you took off, no CHT issues getting too hot? Our Comanche 260 struggling to keep under 400F in the climb if I leave full power on for more than a couple of minutes after take off.
We have a stock 250 cowling and I'm been surprised how forgiving it is on CHT's even in peak summer in Florida. I don't think they broke 385F on this climbout although temps were also mild in the high 60's. I usually see about 360F on the hottest cylinder in 65% cruise once leaned out. When terrain isn't a factor, I usually climb at 130mph to get extra cooling. I had it bumping 400F a few times over the summer - espcially when we were close to gross weight going to Oshkosh.
@@planeplaces thanks for the reply, good info. I suspect ours may be running over-lean sometimes, as even climbing at 130mph full rich it’s a struggle to stay under 400F, similar air temperatures to yours. Baffles supposedly all ok, needs more investigation 👍
Honestly I was task focused on setting up the pattern and assessing the terrain and missed making the calls. I’d had a clear view of the area for the 10 mile approach, did not see anyone moving on the airport surface, and not heard anyone else make calls. You can never assume but aviating was taking precedence in my mind space after I made the downwind call.
Because I attended college there, I flew into Jackson Co. in 1978 just after getting my PPL. The end of the runway was falling off the mountain. One of the worst airport construction decisions ever.
I'm in Phoenix so Sedona and Payson are regulars for me. At Sedona I land on Rwy 3 and take off on 21. Just like you did there. Upslope on the landing and down on the take off.
I'm in Los Angeles... so it has to be Catalina Island. Even though I never actually got to land there... never quite got around to getting the checkout ride required to land there by the FBO that I was renting from at the time.
@@glenlivet4me503 I've been into Catalina several times. It's a lot like Sedona but with water :-) I have a few old videos on my page of it and Sedona .
This was a beautifully done video. Thanks for a great ride!
Thank you! We try to make videos that people like

Thanks! It’s such a pretty area and I hope our videos help others see the wonder of flying
You definitely don't want to float! Great video.
Thanks. It’s not as short as it looks but no you don’t want to be short or long. And density altitude does raise the ground speed.
What a nicely timed video - there's a fly-in to 24A tomorrow.
Saw that and sad we’re not able to go!
24A is just next door. Fun airport to fly in and out of. Very friendly folks over there too.
We will definitely come back for a few nights next time
thats a dope airport
I love these types of airports. Accessible but different

@ I think we’re fortunate with good baffles but a bit of a loose cowl otherwise. Although we seem to make book speeds so not seeing excessive drag
Didn’t hear you call base or final, was that just edited out of the video?

I thought you were making a delivery for needy people
Organized deliveries by air had ended in this area a couple weeks before our trip as the roads had been opened.

First airport in my logbook after earning my ppl. Such a beautiful airport and area.
I assume they fixed it?
That’s great!
@@planeplaces They just made the runway shorter.
Oh yeah I can see where the old runway would have fallen off the left side. They prob lost 1-2k feet of asphalt right?

@@cholubaz Nice. My only personal flying in Arizona was a family trip to Mesa way back in 1991 when I was working on my PPL

I flew relief up there got chased off by a chinook
