      It feels, i dunno - like a normal human? If it's appliable to the presentation.
      Today any presentation just screams "fake with glitter over it", but people eat this shit and ask more. Then company delivers a half-baked product... DA:I, Andromeda, Cyberbug 2077, etc.

      @@t.va.6611 blizzard might be bad today because of how money hungry they are,but in my opinion there will be no better game lore than starcraft lore from both games,something about the way protoss and zerg are different from us and the fact that there's only 2 other intelligent races in the galaxy is intriguing,i wish theyd make a starcraft universe shooter game,i still love rts,but i don't pay it nearly enough attention as i use to,i still love starcraft universe itself and having something like starcraft ghost be returned from the dead would be cool.
      yeah i know what they did with diablo immortal,i wish blizzard would turn back to how they use to be.

    When you think you are 90% done, you get hit by the second 90%, that's the reason of the 12k extra builds the game needed to be done. I am a developer and I can tell you, that this hits close to home.

      It was.all downhill once HoTs and LoTV dropped. I'm not sure if Starcraft 2 needed to be an episodically released game. Blizzard is one of the first game companies to start this whole "episodic" game release trend.

      SC2 was the last hurrah of Blizzard for me.
      The last memory of waiting in line at gamestop for a game I preordered. No BS day 1 DLC, no season pass, no microtransactions. Just pure simple game.
      The excitement I felt waiting in line and getting my game I paid $60 for as a teenager which.... yo was a huge amount of money for a kid back then. Its just I haven't felt that feeling in a long time.

      well it's hard to communicate when your beta testers are the actual players, some of them just play the game then rants the game for "unfinished game ew", some will actually help developers but may take days, it's much easier if you have hands-on control of the beta testers

      Actually the whole point of early access is to give developers money to actually finish the game, because there are multiple cases of indie developers working on some games at home as a side project while having a full-time job.

    • @Templarfreak
      @Templarfreak 11 років тому +37

      That's normal for a project of that length. Most little mods I do go through about at least 1,000 builds before I'm satisfied with them.
      BTW - All a build means is they compiled everything everybody had and messed around with it until they decided to go back to work. (Or in other cases, took it to Blizzcons for people to mess around with) In my case, 1,000 builds means that's about how many times I save everything.

      GeekMaster6000 you forgot about engine code changes.

    • @Templarfreak
      @Templarfreak 9 років тому +9

      GeekMaster6000 A build is a bit more then just every time a change is made. A build is when a commit is pulled, or added to the already-existing build, and a commit is made when people *submit* a change.

    • @Templarfreak
      @Templarfreak 9 років тому +15

      GeekMaster6000 Well, it's a bit different. Because just submitting a change means that person's build has been updated, but in order for the official build to be updated a commit is pulled. The difference is that a person can save changes, and technically it's a build to them but it's not a build to everyone else until the pull.

      The scaling argument can be applied to a lot of things in StarCraft, but I believe Thors needed to be made smaller for gameplay reasons (I think they would just clutter the view too much).
      I agree that I like some of the aesthetics in the earlier builds, such as the shinier metallic look of the Thor and the protoss portraits. The archon also looked pretty awesome.

    • @0cheeseburga
      @0cheeseburga 9 років тому +23

      +Biggerboot I remeber seeing some beta/alpha build video debuting terran units and in that the thor was this huge unit that had to be BUILT by an SCV and it even had a siege mode and everything, I thought that was way cooler than the thors we know today.
      I suppose that would be similar with respect to the archon. It seems like Blizzard had in mind two really cool late game unit ideas but scrapped(modified) them for some reason.

      The click is not the sound of the presentation switching screens or videos. It's not even in sync with the switching of views, nor are there as many transitions as there are clicks, so why would you even think that? Also, it is clear this is not a presentation that is interactive to allow manual transitions on command. It's just a video running and he has to talk along side it.

    It's a shame they didn't take the script as seriously as they did the technical part. I played both parts already 10 times. The first part was much more serious and more mature, I would call it category R, and the second part is PG-13. It feels like the story of the first part is not ideal, but it was written by people with a level of knowledge comparable to university students .. It would seem that we have grown, they have too... Many naive works of art from our childhood grew up with us and began to acquire adult materialistic features or even rethought, without ceasing to be themselves, without losing the spirit of the original source. But not StarCraft. He not only remained in the same place, but also took a step back. Feels like the second part was written by schoolchildren. The game itself became brighter, the feeling of stuffiness disappeared, a large amount of children's humor appeared.
    An evil villain who is evil because he is evil, Prophecies, chosen ones, cosmic magic, abstract gods devouring worlds to which it is difficult to experience any kind of emotion, just as a person is not able to feel the distance in light years (since our biology was formed in conditions where this was not necessary), pink queen of blades, with a healthy complexion, neat eyebrows, hair styling and lip gloss with stilettos from a modeling agency called "swarm" ... if stilettos are her evolutionary advantage, then what does the world in which she exist look like? The world of strip clubs? Queen of our ... "blades". She is no longer a ruthless sociopath and manipulator, but a campy hysterical model from high society in Zerg.
    The first part is materialism, realism, and the second part is idealism and romanticism / classicism. The first SC is Terminator 1, 2, Alien 1, 2, Bladerunner and SC2 is Terminator 3, 5. This was the first time the game hurt me, the second time was BL3. In the opening videos Wol, Hots, LotV there is the spirit of the first part of the game, but in the game itself and in the rest of the videos, everything is much and much worse. And it's not the high cost of the videos, watch the SC: BroodWar videos. They are outdated, but they have a sense of danger, war, impending threat. The videos in the second part seem to be made by Hollywood. Secondary techniques, only proven methods. They seemed to come off the assembly line, as a result of the work of a raw neural network, and not of people.

    • @olaokolaok
      @olaokolaok 10 років тому +78

      The art direction was scary, dark and intriguing now we have a world of warcraft in space; pretty much what they were trying to avoid for SC 1 when fans started whinning (around the times of SC 1's alpha) about how SC 1 looked like Orcs vs humans in space or "Warcraft goes purple" so they created a new engine from the scratch for SC 1. Now, for sc 2 we have space elven instead of protoss, over stereotyped cowboys instead of the badass and violent human race; terrans and ... purple bugs instead of zergs. I remember being genuinously scared at SC 1 i bet no 10-13 years old kid can say the same about SC 2.
      I'll put it like this: Keep the core gameplay and smart interface mechanics from SC 2 but destroy the music and the bright graphics / cutscenes, we need less color and more dark realism or w/e and replace em with SC1's or at least a more sc 1 kinda music/graphics. You doubt it? Then please compare the gun sounds from the terrans or the death sounds with the terrans in SC 2 , then ask yourself what sound is darker? What sound is more immersive? What sound fits more and makes you feel anything? it's a clear downgrade! Just to mention two.

      I don't know where you go the wow in space, when starcraft was basically like that, then again, you could say warcraft 3 was starcraft in fantasy
      what I didn't like about sc2 was probably the story, I preferred the zergs being the evil race that existed to fuck shit up (they probably came from another galaxy or something like that) now they added in fantasy elements like you said, and made zerg "oh they're just misunderstood"
      also I don't get what you mean by the stereotyped cowboys, the terrans (well the ones in the korpulu sector) are suppose to be parodies of red necks, jim raynor was the cowboy (and he was kinda)

    • @cellulanus
      @cellulanus 9 років тому +32

      I think the big problem with SC2 is that the models frankly look like they belong in WoW.
      It's more to do with the art style. Everything looks cartoon proportioned and designs that were sleek in SC1 now look clunky, chubby and stubby.

      If we would not say that ambitious blizard divided the history of starcraft and broodwar to get more money, the work in SC "that each chapter had surpassed any rts to date I play like gray goo they scratched the quality of the hundredamtographic but none had an interface like the one were the hyperion the leviathan or the spear of Adun

If that were so, people would already be asking for one more expansion and still with this wanting another one
      that they planned this from the beginning, is the problem? this is RTS working and still working.

    • @Protagonist
      @Protagonist 4 роки тому +1

      @@drakolobo I can differentiate them easily. SC1 was sold as a whole game and expanded upon. SC2 was sold in an incomplete state you had to buy three times. LoV barely resembles WoL.
      Yes, the problem is they planned this from the beginning and no, it's not how they have always worked. It is not an excuse, it is a flaw in their planning and displays pure greed rather than a desire to make a good product.
      You claim it was for narrative reasons. You are completely mistaken. Activision will only and exclusively, 100% of the time, focus on money before product instead of making a good product to make money. This is why many people dislike them.

For example, when the Dragoon walks, it's sprite gets wider as it's legs move, and that causes it's collision box to increase. This frequently causes it's collision box to overlap with that of other units round it, which causes they to stop, and try to move away from eachother. This is what causes all the stuttering in their movement. Goliaths, Ultralisks, and Dragoons had the greatest fluctuation on collision size due to their walking animations, and that's why they were so bad at moving around.
      As for the 12 unit selection, I have no idea why they limited it so much. There were mods that I used back in the day that would expand the selection up to 255. It was definitely possible for the engine to do that. There were even cheat client's you could use that would let you use the 255 unit selection in Battle.net matches against unmodded players. I know this because I did that. I was a teenager, and was trash at the game, but Use Map Settings levels with tons of units were a blast when you could select every unit at the same time.
