Taking the working preamp section and picking up a solid state power amp was the win. I would have taken that. He’s lucky the preamp section is good - still has his tone as you said
@@goodun2974 Ooh, a double reference. The Rush / Expanse. I forgot that was the name of the ship on that show as well. I was referring to the Rush song Lyle was playing, Cygnus X-1. It also referenced the Rocinante, which was actually a horse I believe in a novel from long ago.
@@jbolt247 ,ah, I didn't get the Rush reference. As Lyle noted, Rocinante was the name of Don Quixote's horse; also, John Steinbeck named his camping trailer Rocinante for his travels around the country with his poodle. "Travels with Charley" is one of my favorite travel books; "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat Moon is another (he named his camper-van Ghost Dances).
I have a question unrelated to the video but I can't find much info on these amps, so maybe you could help me. I own the Mo'Bass and heard that it can be played at 2 ohms in stereo. I'm trying to do this using standard speaker cables, but I'm a bit confused by the 4 cable ports on the Mo'Bass seeing as how there are 2 ports under the "left" section and the 2 ports under the "right" section for stereo mode. I have two 2x15 bass cabinets rated at 4 ohms each that I'm intending to play through at once. To have the Mo'Bass go to 2 ohms would I switch the amp to stereo mode and then have one cabinet connected to a port on the "left" section and the other one connected to a port on the "right" section, or would I have one cable going out of any of the four ports and into one of my cabs, and then connect a cable from the output of that 4 ohm cab to the input of my other 4 ohm cab. If you have the time to answer it would be much appreciated! I don't want to blow anything up by accident.
The late Mo West preamp design product. He has designed preamps for Alien Audio basses and pedal in N’villle. As as bassist I get the fact that specific pedal needs can be eliminated by their incorporation to an amp. But IMO that could limit the sound textures that are out there in other synth, chorus, octave or whatever effects pedals are out there. I have used Class D only amps from various bass amp manufacturers, (read only bass amps…. no guitar or harmonica or other instruments.) Chances are with an amp such as Mo’ Bass an internal component (s) that could fail could jeopardize the gig as opposed to separate pedals that can be bypassed or removed from the signal chain. Keep the rig clean & add to tone stew as needed… found that goes miles for me & so far (cross toes fingers etc.) no amp failure to date.
Having one these since 2003 ish , i love it but man no tech ive met ever does lol Whata cool though is the over drive ans synth have counter play when both on Also the OG pedal board had a filter sweep pedal for the synth. Worked great with warwick basses that were more growl and punchy than say my more modern sadowsky sound these days. 😅 Also going tkmo make sure the screws are extra tight. Great job salavaging the damage. I would be happy , although regretful i didnt listen up front 😅
Sad to say whenever SWR amps were provided backline, they failed during soundcheck every time. Then the SVT would be delivered to replace the SWR. That was a crap shoot. Then I bought a Euphonic Audio iAmp; 300w, 2 ohms, 4 lbs, fit in the pouch of a gig bag. Problem solved.
I could make an entirely new power amp board. I could put in ICE modules. But at that point I'd be responsible for every problem that amp has down the line. And that's not a game I want to play with old SWRs.

You should put that amp on the Rocinante and fly it into the heart of Cygnus.
The amp contains proto-molecule; exposing it to an energy source would only cause it to replicate itself.

RUSH ...
Killing me with the Ming quote! I wore that soundtrack cassette out.
When you say ‘boxy’ tone or sound, whats an example of that? Thx!
Just too much @300hz. I dunno,, man. Boxy.

I'm sorry, that amp went home months ago and I don't have time to look up the schematic today. Contact Mesa. That's your best bet.

I had the same amp and sold it because i wouldn't have parts available in case it did die.

Mit be able to retire of that one brother! :)
Not sure I'm getting you why can't you just bypass the boar or make your own replacement board or even get one from China for about 3 dollars

Argh. So deflating when you need to do so much work to then find out there's a showstopper that you had no way of foreseeing. Time for a whisky.
I don't drink. But it's at times like this that I'm tempted.
