I ve also ridden both, so my 2c (also playing the devils advocate here) - if you dont consider offroading, why would you choose a 21 front wheel with tubes? - if you commute and ride on weekends, t660 is perfect for the job. One of the best all rounders ive ridden (another two examples are the versys & cb500x). - where i am from, price difference is 2k , so another factor to consider. The T750 is the same class with the tiger 900 not 660. Yes, bigger price difference but the t660 is not an adventure bike. Direct competitors of t660: versys 650, tracer 7, vstrom 650 - Fit & finish is top level, especially at this price point...most people complain without even seeing the bike up close lol - Cons: passenger comfort, wind protection - Pros of the T750: longer distance travels, more toque from the get-go edit (for any replies): i had the t660 for 1 year, bought the t750 and kept it for 6 months and then moved to a tiger 900 (which ticks all the boxes for me)
Nice review. I've tested the Tiger 660 Sport several times. I really wanted to like it, but just didn't. I had an '09 Street Triple R that I just loved, and even though the 660 motor is very close to the same I just didn't like the way it made power. Also, found the bars really buzzy and the windscreen was super noisy no matter the position it was in.
As to which one to get/ have??? It just "really" just boils down to personal preference (butfor me they "both" should have the option for factory cruise control)
Here's hoping for a test of the '24 base AT with tubeless tires and more (112Nm) mid-range torque. Would be interesting to compare with the Transalp, even if they are in a different price class.
Tbh, I’m not that excited by the new AT. It’s too expensive for ‘only’ 100hp. I’d want more power for that money. That said, a comparison video would be good, I’ll ask my dealer…

The 400X scrambler looks on paper more Triumphesque than the 660. I do not understand that Triumph wanted to make it too cheap vs their average quality they provide on other models.
Triumph made this 660 range to make BIG profit with the newbies who dont make the difference between high quality and cheap junk, and trust all the marketing reviews that say its a very good bike , focussed on useless gimmicks... Such a shame when Triumph made the best of the best A2 bike ever done : The Street Triple 660S . Nearly as good as the 675. 😉

I was interested to see a Tiger 850 Sport in the showroom at the beginning of the video. Apparently they are as rare as rocking horse poo, if other channels are to be believed. Nice review, but I think that those 2 bikes are too far apart for serious comparison? Tiger 660/Versys 650/VStrom 650/Tracer 700 would be the more obvious comparison, but it's interesting to note that, apart from the NC750X, Honda don't really have a serious competitive bike in this sector?

After several months - have you change your mind regarding street triple vs speed twin? I'm currently on a fence between these two. I know that most of the time I'll be cruising not so well maintained midwest roads and go on occasional weekend tours - so twin looks like a better choice. But can't stop thinking about all the goodies one gets with Triple, like stylema breaks... oh, tough choice.
Nice dilemma to have! Tbh, if money were no object, then having both bikes is justifiable. They are very different in the way they ride: the Triple is like a scalpel, darting from one corner to the next, while the Speed is like a big fat juicy steak that puts a smile on your face thanks to its incredible grunt. In this regard, I actually prefer it to the Rocket. Honestly, if I were starting from scratch today, I'd be very happy with either... but both is better, lol :)

I have a Speed Twin and live in Portugal (which has warm temperatures most of the year) and I have no complaints with heat. I’ve even ride it for several days in temperatures of 35-40 and couldn’t notice any uncomfortable heat.
"A bike you can put on your short list." Great double entendre there rocket. We finally got the Transalp in the US, but the only finish is flat black primer. They won't allow any with color in. California must have determined that paint pigment causes cancer too. I gotta disagree with you on race brakes. I'm happy to see mfgs getting back out of this silly trend. Their only benefit is dissipating heat when braking hard from high speed over and over again without fading. Few are going to ever ride them hard enough on the street to make FAR cheaper brakes overheat. And those that do will probably be dead in short order. The brakes have nothing to do with fork dive. They also tend to come on far too easily and aggressively at street going speeds. I don't find the experience of feeling like I'm going to get thrown over the bars every time I look at the brake lever a positive. I'm not a fan of putting high dollar, rock hard suspensions made for riding around pristinely maintained, high speed Euro racetracks on bikes that are going to be ridden in the real world. If your fork dives (as all bikes with longer travel tend to do) change to a higher viscosity fork oil. At worst it may require a little stiffer springs. Part of the allure for me of the Transalp is that in a showroom full of $20k+, this can run with any of them for under $10k. I say more of this. If someone needs road racing components on their dual purpose bike, they can consult a catalog at their leisure with all the money they have in their pocket to burn.

19 inch tubeless front is non-negotiable for me. That said, the new 800 V-Strom looks to be the winner in this regard. The Moto Guzzi V85TT is an outlier.
Tiger 660 is a cheaply made overpriced bike. For about the same price as the older high quality fantastic Street Triple . I owned two Street triples. I tried the Tiger660 : deception . very linear motor , muffled sound , bad suspensions , cheap steel chassis , looks like a downsized bike . Triumph makes big margins with the newbies... I own as well a CB500X mod 2017 , great bike for the price , just lack a bit of power , but i wouldnt say its boring , it is an enjoyable utility bike but again for the price ( it costs me so little money in insurance , fuel , servicing ... ) , i like it . Now i tried the 750 Translap. ( i already tried the Hornet 750 ) . Waouh ! I think Honda has created the best modern mix "fun / torque / power / fuel consumption / sonority / cost" motor . It has all what we need in the real on road life , with no useless excess in power or costs. I found the Hornet very cheap indeed ... The Translap looks much better , using better quality components here and there ... i didnt feel the extra weight at all. Balance is excellent. Only negatives could be the suspension a bit too soft on road , bulky foot rests that hit my shin when searching ground , and some jerking in the throttle ( in both normal and sport mode ). But nothing really dramatical , and maybe should i just have been more used to the bike. Honda made a really good job on this bike , even if i am not blind , quality is far for being amazing. That s why only real negative is the price still too expensive in my opinion , compared to some others higher quality but not more expensive bikes (Street Triple R , or GsxS950 for example) Its 1000€ too expensive ( not to mention you have no hand guards , no engine guard , and a "cb500 exhaust" to replace with an aftermarket one ) I like the bike , but i dont like to be scammed on a fictive price , just because concurrence is still more outrageous . Transalp shouldnt be priced more than 1500€ over the Hornet. In the meanwhile , I keep my CB500X , not so exciting , but does roughly the same job for less than half the cost. 😉 If I had to choose a bike now , I would buy a Suzuki GsxS950 ( full 95ch ) as it can be found here in France at discount price for 8500€. Unbeatable deal...
I find just about everything you said in the review hard to disagree with but for me as smeone who does zero miles off road I'd opt for the Tiger because of the road bias and 17" inch wheels, the other factor that would make me opt for the Tiger is the looks, neither bike could be described as pretty but the Trans Alps looks are IMO pug ugly, anyway my 2023 Street Triple RS fulfils all my biking needs.
I wanted to ride this motorcycle, but after visiting the showroom and seeing it up close, I decided not to. This bike is so poorly made. Dash looks like a Russian gameboy. Seat has aftercrash shape. It's truly amazing that a motorcycle of this capacity consumes so much fuel.
You mean the Tiger 660 ? yes I have a Trident, & can vouch for the fact that my ride is not comfy, also, it's underpowered, not even 81 PS / HP that it is supposed to do, feels more like 75 or less ... hence, thinking of replacing it with a better commuter ... have prebooked the Scrambler 400X and now, i might just prebook the Aprilia RS 457 already have a 2023 XDiavel & 2022 Hayabusa.

Owning the Trident (as second bike) for two years now and just recently have test-driven the Transalp I must say, none of both finally convinces me. The Trident is too uncomfortable, and the Transalp far too soft when is comes to suspension. The gearbox ratio of the Triumph really too short - the Honda gears are too long, only felt some tourque in 3rd and 4th. I guess, the new GS 1300 is the most promising next bike on my list....😊

La Tiger est tout à fait envisageable pour un débutant, oui. Pas trop puissante et relativement légère.

The Suzuki generates too much engine heat unfortunately - not good in Portugal - but otherwise a very nice bike
And note the tiger has an 18.5cm step between the seats, combined with low set grab handles, you won't have a happy passenger...

I find just about everything you said in the review hard to disagree with but for me as smeone who does zero miles off road I'd opt for the Tiger because of the road bias and 17" inch wheels, the other factor that would make me opt for the Tiger is the looks, neither bike could be described as pretty but the Trans Alps looks are IMO pug ugly, anyway my 2023 Street Triple RS fulfils all my biking needs.

Even for the road the tiger just lacks the low end grunt of that new 750 engine
I wanted to ride this motorcycle, but after visiting the showroom and seeing it up close, I decided not to. This bike is so poorly made. Dash looks like a Russian gameboy. Seat has aftercrash shape. It's truly amazing that a motorcycle of this capacity consumes so much fuel.

yes I have a Trident, & can vouch for the fact that my ride is not comfy, also, it's underpowered, not even 81 PS / HP that it is supposed to do, feels more like 75 or less ... hence, thinking of replacing it with a better commuter ... have prebooked the Scrambler 400X and now, i might just prebook the Aprilia RS 457

C'est une bonne moto pour débuter, mais avec 'seulement' 80ch pour tracter 110kg, je me demande si tu ne risques pas de t'ennuyer au bout de 2 ou 3 ans..?

Personally, by looks of the bikes,... I would keep Triumph for a max 1 year, but the Tansalp I would sell it underprice in a 2-3 months.

Owning the Trident (as second bike) for two years now and just recently have test-driven the Transalp I must say, none of both finally convinces me. The Trident is too uncomfortable, and the Transalp far too soft when is comes to suspension. The gearbox ratio of the Triumph really too short - the Honda gears are too long, only felt some tourque in 3rd and 4th. I guess, the new GS 1300 is the most promising next bike on my list....😊

The Tiger 660 is one of the worst bikes I ever owned. Horrible little thing. Ugly too.
