Great interview, I'm glad you got to talk to him. I do hope that you enjoyed the record and that we will too. I really enjoy the hard work you put into this channel man.
Yeah, you can tell he is really passionate about what he does. That's something a lot of these big pop singers could learn from. When people are in it just for the money, there is a big difference in everything they do and say.
@RicceneENT32eah same, tbh. It's the first songs by them that i haven't liked. I do like "we love you" though, however i don't love it, especially compared to their older stuff. I am excited to hear the rest though, i hope there's songs i will like more compared to the two they've already put out so far. But you i don't like "Nobody" much at all... It's to repetitive for my liking. Definitely not a terrible song, i do like some parts of it, can see why others would like it. Definitely not my taste though 😭 which hurts a little to admit as they're my fave band 😭
I actually dislike the vast majority of avenged sevenfold’s discography (mostly outgrew it since my teens) but the two songs that have dropped are amazing and I love the album art. Very excited for it.
I'm very mixed with it. The progressive splash is really intriguing, but the production hasn't really sold me yet. Hope the new record changes my mind though
Hearing this reminded me why I love metal so much.. It sounds so cheesy but I've listend to a lot of diffenrent genres and I've never experienced so much depht and so many thoughts behind a single track or album then I did with multiple metal artists. Thats why I love A7X. It's not just simple music, it's pure art.
I don't get it though. We still have murderers and rapist etc. Evolution didn't wipe 'em out. Shouldn't there be an authority to protect moral people from immoral people?
Eh, his view on morality is a bit shallow and from his own explanation lacked real challenge. It seems like he went looking for answers in psychedelics and is satisfied with the illusions they brought
Dude the songs have been so good so far. You can tell how much they've grown and matured, and this feels like a growth from and evolution of The Stage. I'm so excited, you can feel the passion and skill, and you can hear their message and their new world view shining through. And, as we all knew, he mentions psychs, which is even better man. It changes your mind, changes your life, it's a beautiful thing. It's heroic, I'm happy he's sharing that with us, the world is waking up
Yup, this is what we all had been waiting for. I believe this record comes out at the right moment in life for most of us. It is very exciting to see how much Matt gets into it and how excited he sounds describing this masterpiece.
A7X is one of my favorite bands, and has been for a long time. I'm also a long time prog fan. This is sure to be a great record, maybe even flat out phenomenal. But not even close to the best prog record of the decade.
he's not just a screamy vocalist of a metal band, his insights about life, religions, afterlife, and morals are even more eye-opening than the whole amazing album they did. I think I can really use a therapist like him! 💯🎖
I love listening to Matt talk about his reasoning behind the songs they release. Even if I don’t view life in the same way, he always manages to be succinct and reasonable in his explanations. Could listen to him talk about his craft all day
I love seeing M. Shads, one of my teenage heroes, always evolving one step ahead of me (he’s about eight years older). It’s like he’s always able to conceptualize things I haven’t yet been able to, but am aware of and can feel. This new album is going to be a banger.
I just became a A7X fan because of Nobody. When I heard We Love You I was so thankful to hear this new music from them. I went back and listened to their old music and just fell in love with Avenged Sevenfold. Their sound is simply amazing and I am so pumped for this new album. Looking forward to seeing them at MSG this June.
I'll admit, when I first heard Nobody, I was dreading this album but I realized it was because I went into that song with an expectation of hearing something from the self titled and Nightmare era. But after hearing We Love You, those two songs are currently some of my two most played songs on Spotify. Being able to realize that this is what the guys are passionate about (trying new things, challenging themselves, challenging their listeners, etc.) I've become excited to hear the rest. Avenged is definitely one of those bands that can't be kept in a box. They don't want to. They aim to push themselves to different places and they want to take us with them and it's really cool to see. Again, it was all about perspective and not having expectations. Now that I've moved past that, I'm stoked for LIBAD
Man who would of thought a random song on myspace back in the day lead to now. I can't wait for this album as a long time fan from my teens now I'm a father and still enjoying the music thanks for all the memories.
M. Shadows looks really happy and emotionally healthy. That’s so good. Most metal musicians are most times in dark places when they write, but to see them healthy enough to experiment with different sounds and have fun is always welcomed.
Heavy music does not automatically equal depression. Some musicians just like the way that it sounds, or they make songs that might sound sad to lift OTHER people up.
honestly i love how much m shadows explained what it means to him. i’m personally not loving the new a7x direction but i will never stop adoring their creativity and cosmic ideas and themes they put into their songs
I am so hyped for this album. When it releases, I plan on having a nice quiet dark room to be in, my good headphones, and a cold drink to settle into the music, make this a full experience.
Its crazy A7X really grew and evolved right along side my music tastes. To me it has felt like every album they released since nightmare perfectly fit the kind of music i was enjoying at the time. I love prog, avant garde, and just generally genre twisting rock/metal type stuff right now. So far the 2 singles have hit EVERY mark for me and I bet this album will be a masterpiece. hyped
I agree. It's really awesome seeing their music evolve as the band matures. It amazes me that people aren't interested in the new singles since they really feel exciting to me.
The music I've heard so far really plays into the dream sequence, with hard cuts, gradual switches, and a slight ethereal feel. I'm excited to experience the whole thing in due time
What a great interview. You asked a lot of great questions in that segment and I want to listen to more. A7X has been my favorite band because you expect them to be unconventional and uncompromising to what they love to do. It may not be for everyone, but they are one of the most creative and boundary pushing bands that persistently evolve and don’t pander to their fans. They want you to grow with them and tackle some very heavy subject matter.
Love that this album is based on life, purpose, depression, enlightenment, power......Just the mixed bag of emotions your start to feel when you step outside yourself for a second. I have ego deathed several times on mushrooms and once on LSD and what he is saying in that regard totally makes sense. You start to think about yourself as being a part of this world as a whole versus just focusing on yourself. You realize that your purpose isn't merely to live, reproduce, then die.....What I gathered is that your purpose is to make the most out of your life and how you can contribute a positive energy to those around you and all the other living things on this planet. If you focus on death, then the aspects of death and fear become your reality.....sadness, depression, withering away slowly until you are an empty shell going through the motions. Being happy doesn't require you to better your life situation (though that may help)...Being happy comes in the form of taking the situation you are in and making the most of it. We all want more in life, but those aspects/possessions don't define our purpose and shouldn't define our happiness in the big scope of things. Awesome interview my dude, happy you got the chance to talk to M Shadows about the album!
This man and his band inspired me throughout life more then anything. Ask any of my friends and they will instantly tell you who my favorite band is, been obsessed with them since 2005. Long life avenged sevenfold.
its gonna be like sgt peppers from the beatles, gonna start off as one of the worst rated albums, then 10 years from now itll be considered one of the greatest albums of all time and a pioneer
Have loved the singles so far. We love you was right up my street. Really creative and different. M explained things well for what are complex topics. Great interview thanks RF!
Very insightful. The more I hear and see, the more stoked I am for this album. It's going to be one of those albums that doesn't get stale. That's what I'm most excited about and why I love these guys so much in general. They really give more than just the usual stuff and each of them, on their own, are exquisite musicians in their own right. It's just a perfect storm with these guys.
From the two songs released I think this will be an experimental banger. Bring it on. AX7 have grown up and are now producing music they want to. Bravo.
I absolutely love this band and I love all of their members for their individual additions to the music. HOWEVER, after this albums released, I can’t say that I genuinely enjoyed a single song. Much love for you guys and keep doing your own thing, but I won’t be the one to tell you it’s good.
Oh man, this is the same kind of stuff that I think about too. I feel like I'm really gonna enjoy this album. I already like both singles. Great interview.
This whole album is amazing. I was lucky enough to hear it last Friday in Vegas at area15. I can't wait to hear it again. There will be so many haters that don't appreciate what an art piece it is. If you didn't like the stage you won't like this album.
LIBAD is going to be insane and I am so beyond excited for it. I love the excitement and pride whenever the guys discuss the album. It's infectious and so heartening to see. ... But can we talk about the books behind him now? 🧐🧐
Love this album. As someone who is open minded about music and enjoys a variety of genres (and especially the bands they took inspiration from, like Dream Theater, Yes, Daft Punk or Iron Maiden), I gotta praise everything from this album. It's kind of a concept album, where it goes back and forth about the meaning of life from various perspectives. I love it: love the instrumentals, love the lyrics, love the variety and love even more THAT Daft Punk inspired song, "(G)". One of the best things I've heard since Random Access Memories and definitely a song that Daft Punk wish they had recorded themselves. Definitely an album that you should listen to a few times in order to appreciate some songs that will end up inevitably growing on you. Great album.
Went to the Area 15 Listening party, I really liked the new album. I've been an A7X fan since the beginning and started to hate hard when Hail to the King came out. I didn't like Nobody at first but I do now and the full album was much better than I expected. Excited to listen again!
Love the album! Just saw them in Pittsburgh and it was incredible. Yes the album does take a few listens to take in and now I'm just blown away by it. You must get rid of all internal expectations of what avenged sevenfold "should" sound like. The setlist for the 3rd leg of LIBAD was amazing
Fantastic album! I love that these guys are willing to take a risk, I get that it's not to everyone's tastes but this album is a real adventure, whether you love it or hate it. It's my favourite Avenged album since City of Evil!
It’s very different just like every a7x album evolves for better or worse. It’s going to take some time to grow on me. Waking the fallen will always be my favorite
It's been a really long time since I've liked anything a7x has released. Since the rev has passed their music has really taken a mainstream turn. I'm super excited for this album with how different it is being made out to be..
I love Avenged Sevenfold they're tied as my favorite band and I grew up with them and one of my favorite things about them is you never know what to expect I mean sure Sounding The Seventh Trumpet and Waking The Fallen have a similar sound, and so do City of Evil and Self Titled but then you go to Nightmare to Hail To The King to The Stage and it's very different while still sounding like them, so it's always a surprise of what you're going to get and this album seems to be very heavy on the Prog stuff but then you've got a mix of all these other genres it might be too weird for some I know a few people who and don't like Prog but I'm all for them trying new things and just experimenting with a new kind of music way better then a band where every song is the exact same but with different lyrics.
We Love You sounded very raw on the acoustic part, hearing the strings scratching against the frets. Everything with bands is so cut up and "perfected" lately and it's okay, but it feels much pure leaving the sounds of plucking, scratching, breaths, etc
Thank you all for the kind words. ❤ Stay tuned for the FULL conversation later this month during album release week. You don’t wanna miss it. 🤘🙌
Can't wait!
Great interview, I'm glad you got to talk to him. I do hope that you enjoyed the record and that we will too. I really enjoy the hard work you put into this channel man.
Right. Nothing like on stage. But he didn't sound like that when he was younger.
Matt is so well spoken, I love seeing how excited he is about this record. It can't release soon enough!
Yeah, you can tell he is really passionate about what he does. That's something a lot of these big pop singers could learn from. When people are in it just for the money, there is a big difference in everything they do and say.
Some of these rockers remind me of when Wayne and Garth meet Alice Cooper
Educated, definitely
I genuinely dont remember the last time I was as excited for a record as i am for LIBAD
I love how wildly different the 3 new songs I've heard are. This album is gonna be insane

This album is going to be insane. The songs that came out already blow my mind. Soooo good.
You won't be disappointed!! It's got some funk, some prog, it's emotive, weird, magical... ahhhh I loved it!! I'm so excited!!!
I actually dislike the vast majority of avenged sevenfold’s discography (mostly outgrew it since my teens) but the two songs that have dropped are amazing and I love the album art. Very excited for it.
I believe so.After knowing that Nobody was written based on death I'm sure this record gonna be dark as hell but in a good way
The album is so good.
I'm very mixed with it.
The progressive splash is really intriguing, but the production hasn't really sold me yet.
Hope the new record changes my mind though

I don’t take it for granted and it’s 100% due to all of you who watch and support the channel. Extremely grateful.
Avenged has been my favorite band since 2003, and as a long time fan that has grown up with this band, I want to thank you for a FANTASTIC interview.

Matt's discussion of morals is so spot on for me and so perfectly stated. Loved this interview and I can't wait for LIBAD.
Middle age crisis, and looks like a7x passing it pretty bad, hope they get back on track after this long pause, and trying to overthink their life😂
science over religion.
I don't get it though. We still have murderers and rapist etc. Evolution didn't wipe 'em out. Shouldn't there be an authority to protect moral people from immoral people?

1000/1000 interview. Matt explained it so well. Nobody is everything and nothing all at once - very meditative concept

Matt Shadows never get old..
He’s just in his 40’s
He literally looks older here.
Never seen his hair this long lol
his beard is trying hard to be adolescent
He’s aged incredibly well, shave his facial hair, cut his hair, he’d look like he hasn’t aged a day
I just became a A7X fan because of Nobody. When I heard We Love You I was so thankful to hear this new music from them. I felt the same when I saw the music videos and heard the new songs for the first time
for real this type of thing is exactly what i need right now

Ahhh fuck can’t wait for the full podcast!! I love hearing about the concepts they explore with their music. Awesome!
It's been a really long time since I've liked anything a7x has released. Since the rev has passed their music has really taken a mainstream turn. I'm super excited for this album with how different it is being made out to be..
im so happy you guys are back
I totally agree with his opinions on determinism and morality. So cool to hear Matt talk about this kind of stuff.
DMT is amazing. I felt like that had influence somehow. Now confirmed! Love the new album. So fantastic, I cannot stop listening to it.
We Love You sounded very raw on the acoustic part, hearing the strings scratching against the frets. Everything with bands is so cut up and "perfected" lately and it's okay, but it feels much pure leaving the sounds of plucking, scratching, breaths, etc
I can’t believe people are upset that they are trying to be more original. 😂
Avenged sevenfold is so creative!! 🗣️
I could listen to this topic for days 🤍
Really great insight into the new record. I love these conceptual ideas from Matt. Looking forward to the full interview.
I'm looking foward!
