I got to see Pat Paulsen back in the late 1970's. He came to the local college and performed. My best friend's mother worked at the college and got us tickets. Loved his humor.
Back in '73, as a 1st year student writing for my university's student newspaper, I was fortunate to interview Pat Paulsen during his presidential 'campaign' where one of his slogans was "We Cannot Stand Pat!"). When I asked him about the Queen, our country's constitutional head of state, he replied, " I'm sure she's a nice lady who goes to the bathroom like the rest of us.' I am not sure the article I wrote did him justice, but I am sure this kindly, self-effacing humourist, with his dry, ironic wit would be much appreciated in these perilous times.

One time, probably '76 or '77, he came in with a big Nixon/Agnew campaign button on his lapel (by this time Carter was President). I chuckled at the button and he said "I've been working the pipeline up in Alaska the last few years and there hasn't been much news, how are my boys doing?"
