    Always found it interesting that concentrated liquid yellow food coloring looks red.

      and that bright blue lights look cyan. There's an interesting correspondence that red-yellow and blue-cyan have.

    I teach color theory for textiles dyeing and you have learned my understanding and creative expression exponentially. Thank you for the gift of your time creating this material.

      I'm a [lifelong] student of color theory as applied to humans (aka color analysis) and this channel is blowing my mind and shining a spotlight on big gaps in the systems. I'm so excited you made a comment, I think your channel will give me further valuable info as color analysis has to marry the natural coloration of humans with dyed textiles. Subscribing to you!

    You mention how most mammals have YB cones. Are our RGB cones the result of the Y cone splitting into what is essentially its component colours, or is that just coincidental? It's almost like the angled position of red and green in that diagram suggests a phenomenon of that kind, with the Y end of the Y B axis splitting.

    I enjoy every one of your videos. Im not an artist but color theory and color perception overlap alot with science.

    My personal suspicion is that, just as man has numerous blood types, I believe man (collectively)has numerous numerous color vision processes. I believe our understanding of 'color blindness' is misguided because of this.
    I say this as a partially 'colorblind' watercolor artist. Let's not forget that the brain can/does form new neuro-pathways when introduced to new awareness (colorblindness) + info (color theory)....this can cause the brain to rescript the way colors are perceived and interpreted.

    I actually love this. Though I would want to give all that extra space to green, since the human eye can differentiate more shades of green than other colors

    Hello! Why did you say psychological primaries at 0:54? What do you mean by psychological?

    • @ColorNerd1
      @ColorNerd1  4 місяці тому +23

      Fantastic question. The term came about to distinguish the RGB primaries, which are proposed by trichromatic theory (we have three types of cone cells, color arises from imbalances in their signals) and RYGB "unique hues" or "psychological primaries" proposed by opponent process theory (our cone cells are wired together into R-G and Y-B opponent axes; that's why there's no "reddish green" but there can be "reddish yellow" etc.)

    Color Nerd, do you know of a good book about color harmonies? I want to understand different color harmonies, why a color harmonizes with another. Is a color wheel always the starting point for a color harmony? Should I know the effect of one color on another color? The effect of shadows on a color in real life.Yellows could become greenish under a shadow?

    • @ColorNerd1
      @ColorNerd1  2 місяці тому +2

      Check out Kobayashi's "a book of colors." He organized harmonies based on character rather than hue, and spaced hues perceptually (Munsell system). Highly recommend.

    YOU SAID THE "P" WORD! And my dog speaks english. The rest of the video was in conjunction with a squeaky toy. The goal of this game, apparantly, is to make sure the thing makes continuous sound. He really loves the word "play". I haden't relized how much I use it. It's up there with, "Is Blues hungry?" He's a 1 yo black lab. He's a complete goofball 24/7.
