This is one of the best reviews I have seen on this (or any) guitar: Objective, extremely thorough, and with sound bites that seem to accurately illustrate the guitar's sound (instead of the usual interminable noodling that is characteristic of many such reviews).
I just got this exact model last week and I'm honestly amazed. I've been borrowing my friends fender tele and when this came we did a comparison and the quality was surprisingly similar. Fret works and intonation were 9/10 from the factory and it only needed a slight neck adjustment to play perfectly. The only thing I can complain about is the neck pickup being too dark and muddy, but the middle and bridge position sound amazing
i find the neck pickup muddy as well, so i mostly just use the bridge for the scratchy shrill sound i enjoy and use the center setting if i want to add a little warmth . but neck by itself? no way!
I just bought this guitar and love it. I'm just learning but I wouldn't call it a beginner guitar. Great neck and very good fit and finish. It is playable right out of the box unlike the cheap Epiphone I bought. There is no comparison between the two.
Oh god please do me a deal never ever buy a cheap Epiphone again lol . I used to own a Chinese made Black Beauty Les Paul it looked fab but sounded like garbage , cheap hardware and the wiring was faulty , ended up trading it for a classic vibe 60s Strat which was miles better made.
Any Upgrades that will Keep Squier from falling behind to Brands like Donner can only be a Good Thing ! From Your Video It looks like they Built a pretty good guitar !!
This review was a huuuuge help. You’re always super honest about the cons, and there ain’t nothin holding me back here. I just use nickel wound strings to save fret life anyways. Def buying this guitar
Definitely tempted by the affinity strat. I currently play the gibson les paul special tribute. It's great, but it's the only electric I've ever had my hands on. The affinity seems like a nice way to try out some of the classics without breaking the bank.
Yah I bought this guitar about 2 weeks before I watched this deep dive video that Landon did, I also was very impressed with it, it came perfect out of the box. And a lot better built from my last Squire Affinity that I bought, which was the butter scotch blonde model. That guitar I upgraded the pickups with the fender Tex Mex Telecaster pickups, but then later sold it and the tuners were not so great on that guitar, so now I have this one and also the Classic Vibe 60's Custom Telecaster. It came perfect out of the box also, and I bought it about 2 months before I bought this Telecaster. I'm impressed, Squier is doing a great and much better job. Robert from Alberta Canada.
If you would compare the affinity neck profile with your classic vibe, what would you say? Asking because I'm doubti g between the classic vibe deluxe tele and this affinity version. I have a bullet mustang and can't live with that neck profile. I'm afraid the affinity would be similar. Thanks in advance for your reply!
@@SteveDiogo thanks for you reply! I just got the affinity deluxe this week and I love everything about it. You're totally right in saying it's closer to CV neck profile. The only real difference in feel is the ever so slighlty 'rolled' fretboard edges on CV.

I used to have an old version of this from around 2007-2008? Looks nearly exactly like my old guitar but the neck was a lighter shade and the Squier logo was black. They are really nice guitars and sound great in a live setting.

Great Channel Landon. I just picked up one in the Charcoal Frost. Man first impressions are great. in the last few years I purchased several Squires, including Classic Vibe Custom. Unfortunately I had to return every single one, so I was a little hesitant to order another. But boy am I glad I took a chance. Out the box it plays great (I will lower the action a slight bit.) Fret ends are nice and smooth and well rounded. Fretboard looks fantastic, it is pretty dark, from a distance looks like Rosewood, much better looking and feeling than Pau Fero. To top it all, sounds great too. One thing that did surprise me is that it is still made in China. I was under the impression Fender moved all Squire production to Indonesia. The regular Tele is not out yet in my neck of the woods, I may add one (single/Single) when it does come. I have been looking for a black Pickguard, haven't had much success.
Thanx Landon. Your vid made me bought this one. In this case it's going to be a gift for my younger brother. I recently bought the Gretsch Streamliner with p90's and small size body. Without bigsby (it's impossible to memorize those bloody letters and numbers that Gretsch use in the models). I love p90's. And I bought it for that reason. For the money is a no brainer. You should review that one. I know you are a Fender guy (I am too)... but, after all Gretsch is owned by Fender. But the whole point is that my young brother its going to be very happy in a few weeks. And I bought this one because of this vid. I wish that these guitars existed when I was starting.
Have the burgundy Indian Laurel version and WOW honestly feels and plays better than my mim telecaster plus. I'm essence The 2 teles and strat all have better fretwork and straighter necks. I did oripure humbucker bridge pup upgrade and a DiMarzio tone zone tele bridge pup and now the affinity teles blow the mim out of the water.. squiers are very nice affordable axes that should be seriously considered no matter whether beginner or pro level player . Realistically CNC machinery is what gets these guitar's killer as well as the craftsman in china who do fret detail and general oversight.. excellent work guys you should be very proud, I sure am 👍👍

Great model and Squier has really stepped up their game on the Affinity line. I've had this one for several months and still enjoy playing it. I may upgrade the pickups to the true wide range pickups, but for now I'm getting some great tones out of the stock pickups.
Landon - you said that normally you don't like ceramic pickups - but you thought the ceramic pickups in this guitar were ok. Three questions for you.....1. What was it about these pickups you liked? Maybe better clarity than you were expecting? Maybe more character than you were expecting? 2. Would you say that these pickups were worth leaving in the guitar in terms of their quality? 3.I think you said you also have a higher end Fender Tele Deluxe...did I get that right? If so - how do the ceramic pickups in the Affinity compare to the pickups in the Fender? Big thanks!!
they just sounded better than I expected maybe. it's such a hard thing to quantify. I'll have a comparison with my Pro 2 Tele Deluxe sometime in the future.
I got one and the only thing I didn't like was the knobs. Put the larger "Genuine" Fender chrome knobs on and not only looks better they are easier to turn on the fly for swells etc.
Arnt the pup's a bit muddy ? I'm thinking to get this and put some filtertrons...anyway sounds kewl ! Is the fretboard radius like really flat or ? Can't decide this or jazzmaster affinity...I'm starting to love teles more and moar.. thanks for video !

I had the same one back in the 80s. It was a real Fender Telecaster just like that and it was made in 1977. I paid 150 bucks used with original case. Sold it years later like a fool
I picked one of these up yesterday...actually, Black was the only color available at GC (I totally needed another black guitar). The hardest thing was getting the plastic off of the pickguard. :) It was already set up great and ready to play. I love the weight and the belly cut, and the Gotoh bridge makes it rock solid. Squier is definitely upping their game! I may eventually put different pickups in it and do split coils, but it is actually already awesome as it is! Thanks for the deep dive Landon!
@@leftfield70 i just picked this guitar back up and was playing for a moment... then I made a shocking discovery... that moment you realize you missed the plastic on the back of the tuners... so you peel it off... then it still looks scratched... and there is a SECOND LAYER OF PLASTIC 🤯
@@paulantoc I decided to leave it stock for now, as the pickups aren't terrible, as they are... But I might like to throw some Railhammer's in there one day for fun. We shall see. :)
The new Affinitys are the same as the old Squier Standard models, in that they are made at the Cort factory in Indonesia, which has a very good fit and finish record. The old Affinitys were made by Yako in Taiwan.
I watched this back in July, but Sweetwater has a deal on this right now, and so I came back to review what you thought. I think I'm going to do it. I've wanted a Tele for a long time, and I'm sort of building one, but the build got interrupted by a puppy that followed me home, so while I have intentions of finishing the build, it's going to be a while. Besides, who ever heard of having too many guitars? (I'm going to use your affiliate link...)
Hi Landon, that guitar looks like a Telecaster Custom in a H/H configuration, though those stock ceramic pickups can always be replaced with alnico versions and it's reminiscent of my 2006 Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom II, which has a P90/P90 configuration... 🙂
My go to guitar shop guy (plays guitar in a successful Australian band) thought he'd picked up a classic vibe when he picked up this guitar, was surprised how well it played and sounded. build quality, playability and tuning stability seem great at the moment trying to compete with Epiphones uplift in quality?
That one is the more interesting to me of the new line, perhaps the gun color if you don't give me away yours ;) it sounded surprisingly good, was expecting the usual non caracter humbuckers but they have something. What do you do musically lately mate? (that was the question, not for the squier affinity)
Surely they're not Seymour Duncan? I don't know! Just got one Black , with a black head, its got two uncovered humbuckers rosewood neck with a back of neck maple color. Has not arrived yet we'll see how it sounds? Thanks for the review!!
It's an old model. I have the same guitar from 2005 . It plays great. Only difference with yours is that screw between the pickups, the tuners and the output plate.
Great video! I also think you should buy a 2021 Affinity Telecaster and compare it to your 2019. I bet the string through body, nut width and tuners makes a big difference.
Am gassing for the burgundy mist, but am trying to resist. This video doesn’t help 😉. Although I also have my eye on the classic vibe deluxe and can’t decide which is better.
At the time i didn't know fender/squier was working on this last year so i got the squier 70s deluxe tele ima probably get one of these for travel or just to mess around within my living room while my 70s stays in my room haha
Belated Tele Tuesday to me 🥳 NGD with this axe today. It's not Fender like Daniel Johns' and I certainly don't play like him 😅 but it's cool. Btw, did you keep or flip yours? I didn't even wait for it to adjust to room temp. I never do. I open the boxes right away. Idk if that rule or tip applies here in SoCal 🤔
@@landonbailey Thanks! I see. First impression is good -- sounds good, plays good, looks good. Personal preference tho, I would have liked the fretboard to be glossed and uniform with the headstock 😊
Landon you’re the best man!!! Would you recommend this or the new affinity strats? What feel better too you ? I’m deciding between this tele and the new Olympic white strat from Squier
I picked up a filthy, road rashed, burgundy mist one a couple months ago for $100. After a cleaning, fret filing and polishing, and a proper set-up, it's probably the easiest playing guitar I've ever played. A HUGE bonus I wasn't even expecting was the top-loading tuners! The only issue I've found is that the neck needed a hair more bow in the neck, but the truss rod nut was already unscrewed all the way. I carefully clamped the neck for a day or two, and it seems better. I have ZERO reason to ever sell it.
Hi landon, just a question from a fellow radiohead lover. I wanna buy my first electric guitar and i love jonny greenwood tones. Should i get this or a regulas SS telecaster? I want it to be as close as possible to radiohead tones.
this guitar has already shown that it is capable of doing metal as well. i subbed one guy who does modern metal with this guitar and it sounds so rad. whatta uni. whatta price. like it;s a win win for a customer.
@@GalaxyFnVideos ua-cam.com/video/JB76d_VNlww/v-deo.html same guitar. Amazing sound. Metal as fuck. Very heavy strings for low F tunning. Almost octave lower and sounds like this:D
From doing fret leveling and crowning and polishing on both squiers and my mim telecaster, the fret material could become just a little softer than say the American or mim telecaster but I wouldn't worry about it too much. It should be fine.. I have seen comments on line in forums about Squier using softer fret material, and it might be a little bit softer but I doubt it would wear out much faster.. I've seen squiers from the 80's that still have original fret wire.. I just got a squier paranormal tornado and a really awesome guitar it is.. I have 3 squiers all are better than my mim telecaster.. selling the mim to get something else as the squiers outperform the mim hand's down..
I love ceramic pickups. Much hotter then Alnico. And their humm buckers so that to is a Plus. I would love to see Squier tackle the Acoustasonic market as well. Now that would be worth the buy but, they price them at about 2000 dollars. The Squier line runs from about 700 dollars down which is much more managable. .
Hi Landon, thank you for this deep dive review. I think I watched this video around 10x trying to convince myself to get one, I did! I have the same model as well, had some intonation works. One thing i noticed is the output jack is loose for my cable. How do deal with this?
I know this is probably a random comparison, but overall, how would this guitar compare to an Epiphone Les Paul Studio? Not for any specific genre just overall use and versatility.
Great breakdown and demo. I got one recently and want to upgrade pickups. Do you know if any humbucker will work? I’m looking at Seymour Duncan Pearly gates. Appreciate any help. I’ll be sure to use your affiliate link.
hey there! it all depends on the wiring and spacing, so short answer is probably no to any humbuckers. But some yes. You'd have to get the specs and see if it matches what you're replacing.
I just bought the Squire Tele Deluxe. I was impressed by the fit and finish until I went to pull the knobs off and the center shafts came out with the knobs. Bummer. Sweetwater was cool and offered to ship another guitar right away but i had planned to use the guitar as an upgrade platform anyway so they're sending me some strings and merch instead. I've ordered a prewired harness and new knobs from Mojotone so I'll just get started on the upgrades a little sooner that i anticipated. Gotta say I was really impressed with the neck and frets on this guitar which is why I didn't send it back.

Black body with maple fretboard looks great to me. Very nice contrast.
it's a great look!
Great video Landon ordered the exact same model for myself. And a new subscriber!
Awesome! Thank you! and have fun with it
I got one on Saturday string thru body belly cut and the look and feel of the fender 70's deluxe telecaster...
The new Affinitys are the same as the old Squier Standard models, in that they are made at the Cort factory in Indonesia, which has a very good fit and finish record.
The old Affinitys were made by Yako in Taiwan.
ah cool! thanks for that background info
they are actually made in china check the back of the headstock
Clueless 😒
Was never a tele guy but that looks like something I could mess with, great vid as always mr landon
Man, I really dig your reviews. One of the best. Cheers from a fellow Canadian.
😁🎸🇨🇦
I am really thinking of ordering one.
I just wish my local GC had it in stock to try it out.
I like the Affinity line very much. I have a Squier Affinity J Bass on order. I may pickup another Strat in this line as I sold my other.
(I'm going to use your affiliate link...)
cheers!
I got the same one that came with Duncan designed P90s. It sounds hella awesome.
Sounds really nice, you get a lot more for your money than you did when I first started playing 😎
👍🎸
A comparison with the classic vibe deluxe would be useful
I don't have one on hand but I do plan to compare against my Pro Tele Deluxe
This guitar does seem to be a very pleasant surprise. They’re on year-end clearance right now (fall 2022) so I might just need to snag one.
give it a shot!
It's an old model. I have the same guitar from 2005 . It plays great.
Only difference with yours is that screw between the pickups, the tuners and the output plate.
and probably the glossy headstock?
@@landonbailey indeed. These are great value for the price. I guess they are better with the improvements on newer models
Im considering buying this guitar now lol I wanted a 335 now but im small and this could fit me well since I don't like Les Pauls or sg
ya it's worth checking out. or the Classic Vibe model for a bit more $$
Or 339

Lets do this!!!
so glad I'm getting a rec from a radiohead fan
Thanks for the detailed review. Are these pickups 4 wires? Can be splitted by adding push pull?
should be in the video when I open the guitar
Squire Affinity LPB Telec? FSR. Any good? Belly cut. String through body. Skunk stripe. Fender voiced pick ups. Love to see a deep dive on it?
I can't say. Every guitar is unique, check it out if you can :)
Great video! I also think you should buy a 2021 Affinity Telecaster and compare it to your 2019. I bet the string through body, nut width and tuners makes a big difference.
I don't keep everything. I sold the Affinity Tele last year
@@landonbailey that makes sense I didn't even consider that
Am gassing for the burgundy mist, but am trying to resist. This video doesn’t help 😉. Although I also have my eye on the classic vibe deluxe and can’t decide which is better.
ya different neck feel, pickups, body width
Always fancied a telecaster with humbuckers..
Just bought my daughter this one she loves it, great price to including hard case😊
Very nice!
Does the bridge pickup properly dialed in have twang potential? Thanks for the great review...😎
At the time i didn't know fender/squier was working on this last year so i got the squier 70s deluxe tele ima probably get one of these for travel or just to mess around within my living room while my 70s stays in my room haha
tx for this review landon.
This might be the greatest guitar review ever made
thanks!
A garage rocker's dream!
Idk if that rule or tip applies here in SoCal 🤔
hey congrats! ya it's moved along
I’m deciding between this tele and the new Olympic white strat from Squier
hey thanks. I always pick a Tele over a Strat. but that's just me :)
I want it to be as close as possible to radiohead tones.
hey there! this is what I did ua-cam.com/video/0fcezKISQOs/v-deo.html
this guitar has already shown that it is capable of doing metal as well. i subbed one guy who does modern metal with this guitar and it sounds so rad. whatta uni. whatta price. like it;s a win win for a customer.
🎸👍
whats his youtube?
@@GalaxyFnVideos ua-cam.com/video/JB76d_VNlww/v-deo.html same guitar. Amazing sound. Metal as fuck. Very heavy strings for low F tunning. Almost octave lower and sounds like this:D
Affinity's aren't so bad, maybe the knobs and internal wiring is definitely cheap, but they definitely improved some things.
the golden Squier logo looks way better than the solid black one 😉
I think so too
Looks nice, when clean but gloss black is a nightmare for fingermarks.
I have 3 squiers all are better than my mim telecaster.. selling the mim to get something else as the squiers outperform the mim hand's down..
cool have fun!
Love the black color
Hi Landon, I'd like to get a tele for my birthday. What do you like more? This one ore the one with single coils
i like single coils more overall
Thanks for the review, looks nice
No problem 👍
I love ceramic pickups. Much hotter then Alnico.
And their humm buckers so that to is a Plus. I would love to see Squier tackle the Acoustasonic market as well. Now that would be worth the buy but, they price them at about 2000 dollars. The Squier line runs from about 700 dollars down which is much more managable. .
Just got one of this second hand for 140 dlls. I was fascinated for the gross sound but still keeping that clearity.
Are those full size pots? They look big. If so, that's an upgrade!
yes they are full size
@@landonbailey thanks chief
I love this guitar, it seems nice mod with sd alnico pro 2 in the bridge and sd phat cat in the neck.
have fun!
Great review. Very professionally done 👍
Thanks for watching
Hi Landon, thank you for this deep dive review. I think I watched this video around 10x trying to convince myself to get one, I did! I have the same model as well, had some intonation works. One thing i noticed is the output jack is loose for my cable. How do deal with this?
I'm would buy it, for sure!
Nice! Did it come with the D'Addario's or did you fit them? Cheers.
it's all as-is from the guitar shop. I didn't change anything
I love that style.
I think you're the 3rd person to have that exact same issue. that's brutal. I've never seen that before
That happened to me on a $600 Epiphone too. Something weird going on out there.
Nice vid! Going for the charcoal one when I sold some guitars to make room for it :D. Already bought a '99 affinity strat neck with the cbs headstock, to fit on the body. Are the pots 500k?
Go for it! they weren't labelled, but they are typically 500k for humbuckers
@@landonbailey thanks! Charcoal with a tortoise pickguard I'm thinking. Looks sweet I think!
