The base MB Air will have 12GB/512GB, whilst base MB Pros will have 24GB/1T. That way, they keep the differential between the two.

I think the base model is much more likely to have 12 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD.
Apple is too greedy to give 512 GB SSD in the minimum model.

For all we know, Apple could as well introduce the MacBook SE with 6GB of ram at the price of the current 8GB, and increase the price on the 12GB Air just a little bit.

I think the bigger performance updates will come from hardware accelerated ray tracing and the ARMv9 instruction set!
How would the pricing work? Would the cost of a base mode M3 air be bumped up significantly from the current M2 base model? I.e., would buying a 16/512 M2 Air now, even with an education store discount and $150 gift card, cost more than an M3 base model air in two months? This is confusing.

Mostly, yes, but get at least 24 GB RAM and 2TB SSD. The faster SSD data rates are typically in the 2TB and up configs.

I have a 2017 Intel MacBook Pro and I’ve been waiting to move to the M3 MacBook Air. I’ll only purchase a higher spec machine when it’s a desktop such as the Mac Studio.
Now imagine if Apple actually got with the times and the sheeple didn't think 512GB storage and 12GB RAM qas "insane". 12GB RAM on a laptop costing thousands is hardly a good deal or even considered high spec, yet the fools keep falling for it 😂

iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are still starting from 128GB. So 512GB is too generous for Tim Cook. Might be 12GB RAM coz those widgets in Sonoma will consume more memory.

Careful about the speed up with M3. Look at the latest A17 pro in the iPhone, nothing impressive, just a small speed up of perf. Nothing for the efficiency.
The M3 in the Pros can scale that performance as it has active cooling.

The only reason I will upgrade is because of 12GB RAM and 512 SSD. I wish all reviewers only test the base specs. If apple wants to make garbage the reviewers should only test garbage.

Based on how little Apple changed the a17 architecture from a16, i don’t really see efficiency being the highlight change in m3. Not that there won’t be, just that in the iPhone Apple chose to use that efficiency gain to allow higher power draw (particularly in gpu).
So i see the graphics including that ray tracing support being the highlight parts of m3. So simply faster stronger chips using roughly the same power draw/tdp

Based on all the reports of overheating A17 iPhone 15 Pros, I'm a little bit concerned about M3. Especially in the fanless MacBook Airs.
With the larger thermal mass of the MacBook Air chassis, the M3 should be less thermally constrained than the A17. Also, it seems the thermal issues are a bit random - some reviewers are seeing fewer issues. Perhaps this points to more variability of the early N3 node from TSMC. Perhaps the M3 base/Pro/Max will use the improved N3 nodes, especially considering that the N3 chips from Apple were delayed a year

Damn. When to expect this event? I was considering to buy MBA 13" 16/512 with an educational discount (they are also giving some gift cards) which ends October 23rd. I hope the event will take place before end of this promo...
I expect the event will be somewhere around mid October (if there is actually an event). If you’re considering buying a new Mac right now I’d personally hold off for a few weeks.
Or, with that spec, since you might have to wait a couple of weeks to pick it up anyway, you would still have a 14 day return period on top of that, which should allow you to order and return if there is an October event.

I'm eager to wait for M3. Using MBP 2018 Touch, but it's greatly good as well. Good performance, only thing is the battery that needs a change. Other than that I'm able to do the coding side, Photoshop, Illustrator and Little bit After effects. I believe most people can run this MBP 2018 Touch for another 5 years
I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2017. And its display cable has already broken twice, which is why the screen backlight broke for the first time. I did a paid repair.
Several years passed and the display cable broke again. Now random stripes are displayed on the screen or the entire image is broken. I have to use an external monitor, and this makes the laptop heat up and slow down even more.
And at the same time, they also gave me a warranty replacement of the keyboard due to sticking keys. But 2 years have passed and the keys are sticking again. At the same time, I always work with clean, dry hands.
In general, the advantage of this model is that it has an Intel processor, which runs everything, including Windows (and games), Linux and other programs.
But at the moment this laptop is not very capable of heavy workloads.

12Gb of RAM is another scam on the works, 16 gb should have been already standard for M2 chips. But let's say they are honest and given they did not offer in M2 they will offer it in the next iteration of M3 chips. Why reconvert all the architecture on 12G basis raising the production costs if they are not planning to rob your money?
Have you not been keeping up with stuff. All Chinese mobile OEMs are moving to 12GB24GB RAM sticks. This is because costs are similar or cheaper than 8GB. The whole market will move to that,l so maybe stop whining about Apple constantly!

lets be real ray tracing is a joke even in windows world it hardly works give it another 5+ years at least before its standard. Having an rtx 4090 i almost never use ray tracing
@@frostgodx it works very well in 3D software, we are not talking about gaming, I can leave with out rtx in a game, but for render task that will cover main disadvantage of M chips

a16 and a17 are almost the same in speed and energy so m3 will be probably exactly the same as m1. Best laptops to buy in 2023/2024 are: air m1 and pro m1, because m2 are 1-1 the same and m1 are cheaper. M3 will be 99% same like m1 and much more expensive

I dont care that much about performance because we have plenty of it now, just remove the damn notch.
You better bet they already have it removed and know how to remove it.. Apple wont bring a laptop without a notch until it can back it off with other big features in order to make that type of upgrade worth it. And this is likely to happen at the exact same time they remove it from the phones as well. In fact it would be a mistake removing it before that. They go like 5 years with their products looking exactly the same then the next "design" update will be a pivot for the next generation of their products.
