Awesome video of the Griot's Wheel Cleaner! 👀 It's what I've always wanted to try, but I wonder if it's good for Chrome wheels. 🤔 I'm sure the Meguiar's is, though. 👍 #cardetailing #chromewheels #carcare
I like Sonax stuff very much. All their products have nice subtle scents and work well. Perfect Finish compound/polish in one is a game changer!
I've been using Sonax and it seems to work fine. I spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes then go through a car wash that has a wheel cleaning service (where a rotating brush comes out to scrub the wheels). It works really well but it's a bit on the expensive side. I'm going to try McGuiar's to see how different they are. Finger's crossed.
Sonax has consistently produced wonderful results. I have tried various wheel cleaners including Michelin and I must say sonax extreme is good in removing stubborn grim and gunk.
Great video. Honest review . I use Meguiar's and key is cool wheels no rinse first. For this is the only reason i miss my home with the hose. My Hellcat drives me crazy with the brake dust.
Nah Sonax is the best out of the three. A better test, he should have sprayed it on, then spray it off. Meguiars and Grouts require scrubbing, Sonax... you can spray on, wait and spray it off.. no need for scrubbing.
My wheels were beyond nasty. I bought the Sonax product. It's past amazing. 20 yo wheels look new. I am sure the other products work great as well. I used a 1.00 toilet brush from a dollar store. It's a 20 yo Jeep Grand Cherokee that was garage kept.
Nice car. My dad had a 2013 C350 Coupe that was the same color and had the same wheels. It was a fun car. We drove through 49 of the 50 states with that car... I've always used sonax, but I think I'll give the other 2 a try as well. I'm impressed at how well those wheel woolies clean the barrel of the wheel.
Not in this case, we let this car go unwashed for 6 months, and all 4 tires were the same. We also own a 2013 Mercedes C250 and sometimes the rear wheels get dirtier than the front.
Thank you so much for this video Man. I have Black rims (And LOVE THEM) and they look ashy and dirty, not to mention the SUPER obvious brake dust caked up on them. It really cheapens the look of the rims and car overall. Black On Black Car doesn't look good at all with all the dirt and grime. I really appreciate how in the Description you left a Time Stamp for each product you were using as well as the steps you were taking at that time. I skipped to the Meguires Time stamp since I'm a fan of their products being Fantastic and Affordable. Thanks so much. I'll be picking up some of that wheel cleaner tomorrow!!
In California I used to buy Eagle one wheel and tire cleaner, a German made product. It was excellent. That was over 20 years ago so don't know if you can still get it. It you see it buy it.
we've done this before and they all do a decent job, but they all still need the agitation of a brush to get everything off, so we didn't waste time with the rinsing first, just went right with the brushing.

so how much of that bottle is left after all 4 wheels bc it looks like you are using half the bottle on one. Do the bottles have a spray setting instead of stream?
I get about 4 maybe 5 cleanings per bottle. this is why I looked at this video. been using Meguiar's . I guess I'll stick with it but will be looking for a gallon bottle or some larger sized bottle to refill my regular sprayer bottle
@@VicPalacios2011 Not sure they make it in 1 Gallon. But we did buy some Meguiar's Iron Decon, used for decontaminating paint of iron dust before washing, might be useful on wheels too. Came in a gallon jug.
I've done 3 washes and have a bit left for 1 bottle. Even though I've been to the car wash in the 3 years I've had this car, I never specifically cleaned the wheels so they were quite dirty with some rust and so I used a lot of product. If you've been cleaning your wheels regularly I'm guessing you'd have to use less and could get by with 4-5 washes.
Spray on rinse off does nothing, every wheel cleaner out there needs agitation. Even with our 1600 PSI sprayer, it gets most dirt off, but still leaves some behind.
Excuse my innocent question guys, but since these wheel cleaners act as an Iron Decon, is it safe to use on paint or body, I would love to know because I'm buying products to start cleaning my cars and I want to use this step before claying. Thank you guys and stay safe always.
@@Swimdancer1 Hi Mark , I applied Meguairs and it worked really well no damage to my painted alloy wheels, Thanks again for such valuable info, #SuperHappy !!! :)
It would be nice to see trolls not whining over nothing. The instructions say to spray generously. If you have a problem with that, then contact the manufacturers and have them change their labels.
We use the Liquid X Original Wheel Woolies Brushes 3 Piece Kit : amzn.to/2OAG9XG Your hose on the jet setting with a nozzle is not enough in most cases, unless you wash your wheels weekly and keep them clean, brake dust really clings, even when you think the hose looks like it got it all, there's still some there. We still use the nozzle to apply an aggressive stream of water to rinse off the wheels, but we also use our wheel woolies to mechanically agitate and clean off the brake dust one the rim cleaner has soaked in for a few minutes. Even the best wheel cleaners will clean the brake dust off your rims, but still need that mechanical agitation that a gentle wheel brush provides.
Tried the Meguires is product today. Have to say I was very dissapointed. After one application with agitation the wheel was still filthy after a rinse. I thought ok I'll give it a second application and the bottle ran out after a sencond application on 2 of the 4 wheels. So this bottle will not even go far enough to clean the wheels on your car! Given that it costs something like $30 AU its a total rip off. After the second appliction the wheels were still dirty also. And beware you will need to weart long gloves, this stuff burns your skin.
Sounds like you sprayed too much, we usually get 2 to 3 cars with all 4 tires on a bottle. Make sure you use a brush like the wheel woolies we show you down in the links below in the video description. We have found even the best cleaners still need physical agitation to get that dirt off, unless maybe you use a high pressure washer..
It sure was 6 months. The last time these wheels were cleaned was April 2019, just in time for the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, where we came back with all these products after meeting with the Meguiars folks in their tent at the auction. The car was not taken into any car washes nor was it manually washed before the date this video was recorded.
Meguiars claims it works on all wheels. You should test it out whatever wheel cleaner you use on one small spot and make sure if you are concerned about it.
I have been using Meguiar's on my Chrome Rims (BMW Z3 Roadster) and have been very happy. I try to clean my wheels after every drive since OEM brakes produce LOTS of brake dust.
Remember dude, the car was allowed to drive for 6 months accumulating brake dust for this test. Normally you would be spraying it clean once a week or once a month, and would not need to use as much.
Because Sonax turns purple after ~2 min., then does that mean that the Sonax formulation contains a decontaminate that removes iron like Iron-X? If that is the case, then Sonax would be a superior product. Iron-X is not cheap.
LOL, we made it less complicated by using the smallest common denominator, the smallest brush allows us to get into the tiny spaces as well as the large spaces, making it less complicated, it was no problem cleaning the wheels. Your comment was more complicated than it had to be.
Another liar troll. Not sure what you are trying to say, all wheels were sprayed thoroughly, and all were sprayed a second time, and all products cleaned the wheels the same. You're just a lying troll trying to discredit a video that clearly showed the wheels being sprayed and rinsed off. Not even sure what type of useless point you're trying to make. Most trolls on UA-cam try to lie and point their finger in a useless "AHA!" manner, hoping to fool viewers who don't fact check their bogus claims.
It's obvious you never watched the video. We just showed that all 3 companies are exactly equal and we could not see a clear winner at all. Sonax is good , but your false stament about Meguiars being watered down is one based on ignorance, lies, and just hurts your credibility, and makes you look like a shill for Sonax. The all contain water and they all 3 worked excellent.
Not true at all, we showed Sonax 2 more times, you just never watched the video. 9:30: Reapply Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus on wheel where car wash soap missed, and at 11:55 Apply Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus on stubborn stains on 1st wheel all 3 wheel cleaners performed exactly the same.
We've done the rinsing many times before, no cleaner works without brushing. They all clean great, but you still need physical agitation involved. No need to waste everyone's time with it in the video, when it's already long enough. So you're saying no accurate using a brush, it is very accurate to use a brush.
THIS GUY IS WRONG...... I DID MY OWN COMPARISON AN SONAX WINS..BY A LANDSLIDE...I BEEN USING SONAX FOR YEARS.....HANDS DOWN ITS THE TOP BEST ON THE MARKET. MEGUIARS IS SHIT COMPARED TO SONAX...
Once you used a brush (plus you used yet another type of brush & different "aggressive spray" vs. "shower spray" ) on those wheels, in my opinion, the comparison is no longer valid as the force of each stroke are different (plus you not only sprayed different amount of wheel cleaners, needless to say the front wheels are usually with heavier brake dust than the rear wheels). It was disappointing to hear the result is No Result, what a "cop-out" !
Newsflash there isn't a product in the world that works without a brush you only need to use some sort of physical agitation so that's why we did it here it just simply isn't going to come clean without help
All the products you mentioned will clean a wheel somewhat. But for perfection, you should use any of the 3 wheel cleaners we show in this video here, because the products you mentioned don't dissolve iron brake dust particles that are embedded into the rims from driving through traffic. that's what cuts through that last layer of metallic dirt that you can't otherwise dissolve with other cleaners.
Obviously your not a real detailer 1. Almost any wheel cleaner will work good when agitated so your comparison is worthless you didnt prove anythig 2. The long brush is for the wheel wells 3. You never use the same brush on the wheels and tires since the tires pick up more dirt and can scratch your wheels
Obviously your arrogance has inebriated you to come make stupid comments. We showed the cleaners being agitated, because that is how you use them No cleaner will clean a wheel if it's not agitated. You can continue doing what you do and try to clean wheels without agitating them. Your method is worthless and you you'll never clean anything. We compared the top 3 cleaners, and yes they were about exactly the same. All you did is show people here you know nothing about cleaning wheels. Our test proved it, that's not worthless. As for your statement #2, poor you, programmed about which brushes go where. You can use any brush anywhere you want. As for your comment #3, we were showing how most people wash their wheels, which is a quick shampoo and brushing around on the rims and tires, which have the exact same dirt on them. Take your arrogance over to a Fortnight channel where your type of foolish banter is the norm.
Sorry, this video was annoying. First, spray each product on consistently - don't spray one with the sprayer on 'stream' setting then another on 'spray'. Don't hose one off with a stream and another with spray. Don't just spray the wheel off from one side then wonder why there is still grime on the side you didn't hit. And finally, if you scrub them they will all end up looking the same, so we will have learned nothing, which is what happened.

Sonax is good , but your false stament about Meguiars being watered down is one based on ignorance, lies, and just hurts your credibility, and makes you look like a shill for Sonax. The all contain water and they all 3 worked excellent.
carbuyingtipscom its a biased review if you truly think Meguiar’s compares to the other two. Just my opinion though 👍
Uses half the bottle on 1 wheel.
Wait why only 3 contenders...there are 4 tires.....🤷♂️🤔🤦♂️
we have a fourth contender now
You gave Griots a tiny fraction of the time you gave the others and offered no comments on that brand. Was there a reason for this?
Not true at all, we showed Sonax 2 more times, you just never watched the video. 9:30: Reapply Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus on wheel where car wash soap missed, and at 11:55 Apply Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus on stubborn stains on 1st wheel all 3 wheel cleaners performed exactly the same.
@@carbuying he is correct... you never showed the results of the Griots
Not really accurate using a brush, should have applied & rinsed to see which one worked best
We've done the rinsing many times before, no cleaner works without brushing. They all clean great, but you still need physical agitation involved. No need to waste everyone's time with it in the video, when it's already long enough. So you're saying no accurate using a brush, it is very accurate to use a brush.
I don't know what material Audi coats its rims in at the manufacturer but my rims get dirtier in two weeks than your rims did in 6 months. Ridiculous
Sonax germans do everything better
It is a great product
Windex,409,Fantastic All Clean your Rims Cheap I WANT A NO TOUCH CLEANER SPRAY ON HOSE OFF..DONE ANYBODY MAKE IT
All the products you mentioned will clean a wheel somewhat.
WD40? anyone use it for rims?
Have not tried that
So Sad If you gotta Scrub It FRIGGIN ALL THE CLEANER ARE THE SAME PRICE BE ONLY DIFFERENCE
You always have to use some minor mechanical agitation with brake dust.
Obviously your not a real detailer
1. Almost any wheel cleaner will work good when agitated so your comparison is worthless you didnt prove anythig
2. The long brush is for the wheel wells
OIL
thanks for watching
Consumer store products, they all suck.
A Lot of the better stuff is only available online.
Chemical Guys does a pretty good job and is at stores
Sorry, this video was annoying. First, spray each product on consistently - don't spray one with the sprayer on 'stream' setting then another on 'spray'. Don't hose one off with a stream and another with spray. Don't just spray the wheel off from one side then wonder why there is still grime on the side you didn't hit. And finally, if you scrub them they will all end up looking the same, so we will have learned nothing, which is what happened.
Its just waste of my time
Not if it cleans, it's not a waste of time
