Nice video! Some advice for the powder and targets issue - You can powder your part then wipe off little spots where you plan on putting the targets. This way the targets don't fall off.

Nice video. I’d suggest Krylon Clear Dulling Spray 1310 in place of powder spray though. I was using gold bond spray and making a mess, and went looking for alternatives. I set up targets, spray the shiny bits including targets, and the Peel does amazing. Probably going to print some nut and bolt locators soon. Locating bolt holes is tedious so thinking some threaded pyramids with targets on them would allow more precise placement in the scan for fixturing as well as defining planes.

Cool mate, waiting for more! Got my old ford ready for restauration, would love to scan some parts and remoddel them in solidworks.

I just happened upon your channel when I was looking for videos of the Peel 3d scanner. I'm looking to do a similar project, but I want to scan the entire interior sheet metal of a vehicle to design a totally custom dash/headliner/door cards/etc. Im debating between buying a used Artec Eva, a Peel 2, or just paying someone locally to do the scanning. How do you like your Peel? Do you think you could scan the entire sheet metal interior of your vehicle in a day or 2?

You could definitely setup and scan an interior in a day. Setup including placing targets, powder, or whatever else is needed. The Peel is fantastic. Its been great so far.

Thanks for posting. I just bought the Peel 2 CAD partially because of your videos. I saw you are using a Microsoft Surface here. Which model of Surface? The Peel site recommends 32GB RAM, an NVIDIA GPU with 2GB RAM, and a 2.7GHz 4-core i7. This suggests a maxed out Surface Book 3? Thanks!

At the time of filming this project I did use a Surface, and I'm not sure about it's spec. Since then I built a PC that I use with the scanner that more closely aligns with the recommendations (I have it on a cart so I can roll it around, its in the background of some of the later scanning work).

How well did it work with Surface? I’ve also just built a desktop PC that will work for the scanning, but am also looking for a mobile setup. One thing that might be possible with a Surface is to make a fixture to mount the tablet onto back of the Peel, so you can see the scan “painted areas” as it goes without having to look away. Thanks!

That's a really cool idea! The Surface worked out well enough but the main limitation I found was the RAM. Forced me to cut back on either mesh density or the volume I was scanning. Maybe a Surface-sized monitor could be mounted and used to function in the same way, that way you use the PC capabilities but get some of the mobility back? You'd have a few more cables to work with but you won't be limited to the Surface specs.

@@DirtyElbowsGarage awesome idea on the small monitor with the desktop! My Peel 2 CAD just arrived, so I’m excited to dig in. I’ll try to post some videos to help others; yours have really helped me. Thank you.

Man I'd love you forever if you got the quarter panels 3d files going, people want way too much for them

That and a 3d quarter panel would probably still be cheaper than the overpriced oem ones
