2:04 I have a real issue with the legacy notes…a) you don’t know they’re 100% correct, b) they are a rehash of the text book just more concise, c) they might be helpful in an exam but what do people actually learn doing it that way? And d) you can’t do that when practising - you can’t just buy advice off the shelf so why do it on the lpc?

      I mostly agree with you.
I wouldn't advise blindly following the legacy notes. I found errors or outdated bits all the time! I always had the legacy notes on a screen in front of me and spent many many many hours reading the textbooks as well, and updating the notes when I noticed bits that needed changing. Without reading the textbooks I would not have understood the topic - I don't think it is possible to learn to a good standard from bullet-pointed notes. I used the legacy notes instead of making my own notes, but my understanding came from reading the textbook which I never failed to do.
Because I didn't spend time writing notes, I had more time to practice answering the workshop tasks again and again which resulted in me a) knowing the content well and b) being very efficient in the exam. I have spoken to people online who have been making notes from the textbook and I just don't think that is an efficient use of time.
I agree that we cannot use legacy notes in practice, but in practice we also have more time to research and look up information from primary and secondary sources. I don't think that the LPC is necessarily an accurate representation of what legal practice is like - it seems to just check that we can apply law to relevant facts and reach the right conclusion.
I agree that legacy notes are 100% not a replacement for actually doing the work, but I think they are a really helpful tool if used in the right way. I don't see the point in copying out information from the textbook for the exam if someone has already done it to a fantastic standard (for the most past).

Shame because LPC is easier... but the SQE route definitely saves hassle from Training Contract applications which is a ball ache.
