What does a trainee solicitor in real estate do? ...and an HONEST seat review

- Hi everyone! In this video I explain exactly what I have been doing as a trainee solicitor for the last six months in the commercial property and development / real estate seat of my training contract.
I had very little experience working in a law firm prior to starting my training contract so whilst I had a vague idea of the types of work I would be carrying out, I still couldn't envision what I would actually be doing during my training contract seat in real estate.
As I approach the end of my first seat in real estate, I thought it might be helpful to others if I explain exactly what tasks I have been doing whilst in this seat. I would have loved a video like this before I started my TC so that I could develop a better understanding of the work that I would be getting involved with, so I hope you find this video useful!
At the end of the video I also reveal what my next seat is! I am really excited to be trying a new area of law but I'm also sad to be leaving the colleagues that I have befriended over the past six months. Starting over again from scratch is going to be tough but I am ready for the challenge.
I will be documenting my journey to qualification and life as a trainee solicitor on this channel, so be sure to subscribe if you're interested in following my journey as I'd love to have you around!

I feel the same regarding legal research I’ve had to do on the LPC. Glad to know you enjoyed doing it as a trainee, hopefully I do too!
Its 1000% better than on the LPC! Hopefully you'll love it too! X
ahh great video camilla :) I think your videos are super helpful and really informative too :) and I hope we can really all benefit from your experience and how you are helping others by talking about your experience :D as a trainee solicitor
Thank you I am so glad you find my videos informative!
Very good video, well done. Good luck in the next seat
Thank you very much!
Just given up a career in banking and taken a pay cut (as you did) to get back into law. My current role is a real estate paralegal and I’ve got so much to clue up on! This video was helpful 😊
Ahh congrats on taking the leap. It's hard to take a paycut but we have to just play the long game sometimes! It takes time but I am sure you will get up to speed quickly. Are you in London?
@@Camillatalks Aw thanks for the reassurance Camilla. I’m in Birmingham. Trying to save up for a large mortgage deposit (like you again) and it’s so much easier to do that here haha. I’m in London a couple of times a month though
Ok so is this commercial property and real estate or just real estae and there also IP real estae also its gets so confusibg when a law firm has more than one property area
This is just commercial real estate. No IP involved in the seat I did!
Hey Camilla, what happens for advocacy if you're issues aren't the same as your colleagues?
Hi Sami, I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Do you mean advocacy on the LPC?
@@Camillatalks Yhh that's the one, my bad I should have clarified. I'm not quite sure what my second issue is for the exam, so I was wondering if it's different to my colleague who represents the other side, would that be a problem?
@@samishah7957 I wouldn't be concerned by how many issues they have spotted because you don't know if they are right. From memory I think in the mock I spotted 2 and the advocate on the other side spotted one and we both passed the mock.
Prepare thoroughly and identify the issues that you think are relevant and dont be distracted by what other people are doing.
Worst case scenario I dont think you will fail for missing an issue because its a skills test more than anything, but obviously try to spot them all. If you have more issues than the other side, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day you need to present the best case you can.
Have you had the mock yet?
@@Camillatalks Brilliant, thanks. That's really helpful.
We had the mock a few weeks back and managed to get competent thank God.
If you passed the mock then chances are you'll pass the real one if you prepare in the same way and also try to improve. Good luck!
