A problem with DS games for Switch online is that some games use a microphone feature which does not exist on Switch
Super switch can bring the mic back
Which noticeable games do that that they'd need to add?
Can't even think of any games that use it in a meaningful way

It's still kinda wild that I can't just buy these games. I would spend a stupid amount of money on buying these older games but will never fork over for a subscription service. Just something psychologically there for me personally idk. I'm probably in the minority.
I’m with you bro. I hate not feeling like I own something and having to pay continuously to keep it. Like it’s worse because we want to have these games cause the OG hardware is not going to last forever. Nintendo has set a bad precedent for how we access their games now and it’s frustrating and sad I don’t think we can do anything about it. And this goes for media in general these days it’s all going to subscription services. Companies are greedy
Yep. I would say we're the "minority", but we're a large group. More people realising they dont own their content anymore and want to stop taking part in subscription services + spend on more physical content/content that can be downloaded to keep
Some thoughts:
- I think you're being a bit optimistic about Gamecube games and they're probably gonna wait longer than you think. They still have some titles they could rerelease on the Switch (F-Zero GX, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess) and they'd have to let some time pass before they announce them for NSO. I'd say 2026
- Pretty sure they'd make DS for NSO work in handheld mode only, similar to how they did DS games on the Wii U. I feel giving the dock the ability to stream a screen wirelessly would cost us more than it's worth
- About Wii and 3rd-party systems I think you're spot-on. The Wii is too recent. I think we'd have to wait, if we're being optimistic, until at least the very end of the Switch 2's life before we get Wii (and 3DS) on NSO. Most likely they'll wait for the Switch 3 though. With 3rd-party systems I also agree that companies lack the incentive as they keep releasing remasters of their own. I personlly wish Nintendo would release some of their more obscure titles on NSO to pad out the time (Virtual Boy, Satellaview, Game & Watch, Arcade) but those seem like too much effort than they'd be willing to put in
- A Nintendo movie/series streaming service I feel is very likely and is something I've thought about a lot. You wouldn't have to just limit it to entertainment, they could put on old commercials and presentations on there as well. While Nintendo has a lot of visual media in the past that they're ashamed of I still don't think the service would be as bare-bones as you'd suggest. Here are the franchises with visual media I think they wouldn't mind putting on there: Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, Kirby, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Pokémon and probably more
- I don't know how to feel about early access. Feels very non-Nintendo to me
- About the DLC I totally agree and speculated about this as well. It'd also go hand-in-hand with something else I thought of which is if they started rereleasing original Switch titles for a discounted price under the Nintendo Selects brand (instead of patching them for the new system). Edit: Since you mentioned it later, I don't think these would be 20$. Rather these would be like 40$ and they'd be handpicked to be the games that just don't sell anymore. I feel pretty confident they'd earn more money this way than on another subscription service and it'd allow newcomers to the ecosystem to get a head-start on their library
- I very much doubt we'd get other subscription plans. Nintendo will keep selling original Switch games for a long while for over 20$ (not all games of course, but enough that a subscription service filled with their flops would feel very lackluster). It also feels like it'd be too much of a challenge to make the Switch 2 compatible with a big library of 3rd-party games with Gamepass for example
If Nintendo wants to grow as a general entertainment company, and have enough content for their streaming service, they really need to soften their stance on their "Nintendo DNA" policy and start acquiring other companies and IPs while these are up for grabs: Nihon Falcom with Ys and Trails, Level 5 with Pr. Layton, Yokai Watch and Ni no Kuni, Cygames with Gran Blue and the late codeveloped Dragalia Lost, Ghibli Studios with a wealth of amazing IP etc. So many smaller companies with high potential IP that Nintendo could pick and nurture if only they would stop being so stuck up about doing acquisitions...
I partly agree, but I think the reason why they aren't doing acquisitions a lot is due to the fact that they want to plan expansions slowly, surely and necessarily unlike Microsoft
Honestly I just want a better account system. Achievements, leaderboards, better playtime counter stuff like that. I feel like Nintendo is so far behind on this, but I don't see it happening.

@csquire667 if you don't like them, you don't have to interact with them. Wanting less features on a platform because you don't care for them is silly.
ive been thinking so much about them implementing achievements with platinum points, and maybe even putting themes you could buy with the points available on the NSO web app. it just makes too much sense
@jessdoesvids honestly that sounds so good. Completing achievements on games to unlock more points, means they could also expand the rewards from the platinum points. It'd be great!
Let's hope there could be something big and a huge improvements for the service in the future!
Going off the bold assumption a Swutch Online upgrades includes Nintendo shows/movies they NEED to include the HORRIBLE Donkey Kong, Mario, and Zelda cartoons from back in the day. Same goes for the live action Mario movie from the 90s🤣
I feel gamecube won't happen for a long time, and Nintendo will do shows & movies.

GameCube will be saved for the Switch 2, as it has more storage capacity and a larger screen that is likely 1080p, and thereby has room for a perfect doubling of GC’s 480p resolution.
Epically when it’s online that eats up the storage more.
What do you mean 1080p screen? Even the steam deck goes to a max of 800p. If Nintendo did a 1080p on a tiny screen, the switch will be 600 dollars or more. So it is not likely at all that switch 2 has a 1080p screen. And upscaling to 4k isn't the same as being 4k.
@ the screens are cheaper nowadays and the steam deck $600 price is got to do with more chips inside to make it more powerful
Honestly I’m not happy that this is our only way to play classic games now like I wish we had the option to individually buy each game like we did on the Wii/WiiU/3ds.

@ I mean I don’t think the prices that were on the Wii and Wii U virtual console were unreasonable and if there are sales it’s not that different then games on steam. I still would much rather buy games as I can afford them and not have the anxiety of having to have money for a subscription every year and keep in mind lots of things have subscriptions now some things I need so it’s not like this is the only thing. It adds up. It’s a big deal to me with games I adore I don’t want to have limited access to these games which for the longest time we didn’t have to subscribe. Plus I also hate that the switch needs to constantly check up and see if your subscribed like if I’m on a road trip when it does this it’s a pain in the ass.
All nintendo needs to do for NSO is basically figure a way to play RBY GSC on the stadium app exclusively, let us have the choice for an offline version of the games that are avalable on the switch expansion pass with a requirment on being a member to buy said games. Have special DLC sales/Voucher sales if your a member with the expansion pass when the sale drops and gamecube titles
I just want a consistent schedule, that is my least favorite aspect of switch online

My Switch Online wish list is for them to stop holding online access hostage.
But we all know that would result in the losing 90% of their sign ups. And that speaks to the poor quality of what Switch Online offers.

Its still bare bones.
There's hundreds of games for each of these consoles and we only get a few dozen, most are sequels to each other or lame games that were cheap to license.
They need to get all of the old Mario, Kirby, Pokemon, Zelda Metroid and Smash games on there immediately. I'd even pay for the individual games, just make them available.

Most third party companies realize they can sell old games for a price without the need for online service
I do like your ideas cause I hope we do get GameCube on Switch 2 like having Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, Kirby Air Ride, Mario Kart Double Dash, Pikmin 1 and 2, Mario Party 4, 5, 6 and 7, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assault, Super Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Power Tennis, Wario World, Mario Superstar Baseball, Metroid Echoes, The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, and etc. And for the TV and Movies surfaces I mean yeah we would get The Super Mario Bros Super Show, The Super Mario Bros 3 TV series, The Super Mario World TV series, The Pokemon Anime, Kirby Right Back At Ya, the Pikmin Shorts, and The Super Mario Bros Movie. But since we're getting an anime for Xenoblade I hope we can see a sequel or a reboot of Kirby Right Back At Ya like having the original cast and also having the original characters like Kirby, Tiff, Tuff, King Dedede, Escargoon, and Meta Knight and also adding new Kirby Characters like Bandana Waddle Dee, Gooey, ChuChu, Nago, Pitch, Adeleine, Ribbon, Marx, Magolor, Taranza, Susie, Elline, The Three Mage Sisters, Elfilin, Clawroline, Galacta Knight, Dark Meta Knight, Morpho Knight, The four colored Kirbies, Shadow Kirby, and etc. But yeah I hope the Future of Nintendo Switch Online would go good when we get Switch 2 next year.

I’ve had Nintendo switch online+ Expansion Pass for 2 years, 6months and 1 day. (I didn’t invest in a switch till 2022) I own a ps5 and an Xbox series x and I’ve always wondered why Nintendo doesn’t take the route of Xbox game pass in terms of allowing subscribers who get the highest tier to have first party games day 1 for free or maybe at a discount. Like the classic games are cool and all but come on bro lol. Or they can take the Ps Plus route and even though games don’t come day 1 they eventually come to the subscription over time. If Switch was to raise the prices and added this feature I would stay subscribed but when switch 2 comes out I’ll have to see if I’ll be continuing my subscription or ending it(Ends April 2025).
How about add the current library of Game apps that can be on your phone?

God, I hope Nintendo goes back to being free online service for the next-gen Nintendo console like how the Nintendo Wii-U and 3ds did.
Also, I hope Nintendo decides to start teaming up with Japanese anime studios, so Nintendo can produce their own anime series and put Disney, Hollywood, Sony, and the other western corporations to shame!
