I've been standing in my kitchen for the past 10 minutes deciding whether or not I wanted to listen to music or watch an ADHD video while I was unloading the dishwasher. I could have actually unloaded and loaded the dishwasher and probably started thawing the chicken I need for dinner and the time it took me just to find this video.

For the doubters, you can be frozen when a complex task, or as she says, a project, will bring you money, not make you pay money. In my case, lots and lots of money. As in, dealing with my mother's estate, so I can close out probate. I'm so frozen, not even a body double helps, and knowing I will get access to literally hundreds of thousands of dollars motivates me not at all. I'm hoping getting medication will help. It's been three years, sigh.

    • @lisabloedel539

Maybe there’s an emotional block? I think it would be hard to work on a task, that deals with a loved one’s passing.

    • @3dchick
      @3dchick 11 місяців тому +6

@@lisabloedel539 There's absolutely some of that, yeah. The weird part is it was easier earlier, when it was all newer. It's gotten much harder as time's gone on. But my adhd got worse, too, possibly hormone-related, so maybe it's not that weird.

Maybe I have found something new which will help (for a while). When you say "Okay Google, goodmorning", than your can set the latest news to be read to you. When I say this, I walk with my phone to the kitchen and am distracted by the news and clear out the dishwasher.
In the evening while folding (I hang everything 😉) laundry, I watch the news on my tablet/iPad.
When I have to empty the kitchen tablet, I play my favorite music.
When I (try to) declutter I say Okay Google, talk to Santa.
    Connect tasks to an audible.
Be creative. Hope this helps you too.
But write down what to hear where, because you are going to forget!

  • @corylcreates

I got deja vu with the reader's question 9 minutes in, because it sounds just like me (but I can't remember if I left that comment, and I searched in my comment history and couldn't find it!). My procrastination for my writing is both emotional blocks and mental blocks: emotional blocks because I want the book to be SO GOOD and the perfectionism has me afraid of failure, and mental blocks because my brain is so tired at the end of the day after work (a lot of analyzing text and writing text). Love the description of author as an identity and your breakdown of writing in terms of "mini books" and bread crumbs. I get really excited about the outlining process and then drafting out the scenes I've planned gets blocked by the emotional limiting beliefs. When I was writing more consistently, I would finish my writing sessions with a brief description of where I was stuck, what I want to happen next, or any details to help me get started on the next part. I don't use AI in my writing process because so much AI has been trained on stolen, non-consensual material (and it's impossible to know what generative AI is ethically trained-currently, no public generative AI has been ethically trained), but writing out those outlines and reminders is something a writer can do. Books, podcasts, websites, and courses on craft are really helpful if the writer is interested in learning.

I believe the framework you described for writing your book is called a rough draft.
I found very useful advice for breaking out of stuck from Adam Savage. He described the way he goes about starting a new project. He called it first order of accessability. Get everything necessary together first, before even trying to start. This works for me because I'm not actually doing it, just getting ready for it. But, now thst i have everything in order & have committed mental energy to planning it, the project is partly done. This applies whether you're making dinner, doing yardwork, or even doing computer stuff. Any tools & supplies you need, a drink or snack, etc. Especially, securing the time you need by - picking the best time with no interruptions, walking the dog first, and handling anything that could distract you from the job. Food is definitely important, because your brain runs on glucose. When your blood sugar runs low, your brain stalls and progress with it. Simple fix. It's a challenge for me because my metabolism runs like a wood chipper. Don't be jealous, you don't have to feed it all day

"Emotional blocks" • Perfect! It seems I reached a point where I have emotional blocks against... every little task or... "task" (as a reply to a UA-cam comment, or to something more important like an ad I posted somewhere...).
So - context - I already know what it is to live completely free of emotional blocks (for a whole 15-day period), but now... I can't do anything. I have been postponing 3 of those "tasks" for more than a week, but yesterday something weird happened. I was already walking towards the kitchen, to have my dinner (after procrastinating during the whole afternoon) but before leaving the living room I somehow turned around to my vicious laptop - without thinking much - and almost without noticing I was turning it back on with the purpose in mind to really open those god-damned ad-replies I got. And I did... without doing something else again during the process. I opened them, replied to all of them in whatever necessary time (because the problem is always to begin), and then... the rewarding dinner time that I wasn't even envisioning it at the finishing live, but just hyperfocusing on the task.
Somehow, it was as if I tricked my mind while going for dinner... caught it off guard... without letting it create our mental content.
Weird! Have to try that more often.

I watch all UA-cam videos on 1.5x speed instead of the normal speed. Somehow it is easier for me to keep focus if the video is played faster. It's just a tip. Maybe it works for you too or maybe it won't.

Yes. This works for me too. Although the actual speed is determined by the "style" of speech.@naomit6166

Doing taxes is a great example that you picked. Funny part is that the IRS already knows how much we owe or how much they owe us. They are just making our lives miserable by asking us to do our taxes.

Pretty soon the government will have all the info on what we made and spent that year and will deduct their portion automatically from our account with digital currency. And then none of us will have to do our taxes. lol
