@@ihopness1668 That car gets better gas mileage than you think. This is going to be a paragraph of car facts that are stuck in my brain, as they are pretty interesting. TLDR a 7 liter v8 can get up to 20mpg city almost as much as a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. The engine in it is a 289ci V8 now those aren't the most efficient in heavier cars like today's cars. However in the 60s cars like that one were pretty light weight. So the engine uses less fuel due to being under a lighter load. Here's a fun fact a 1968 ford galaxie station wagon with a 429ci V8 (That's 7 liters) could get up to 20mpg in the city. And that's a 4000lb hunk of steel being pushed by a 7 liter engine. Your modern gas sipping 4 cylinder gets about 22mpg city without going hybrid and that's with a 2.5 liter. Realistically that number should be higher right? Wrong power to weight ratio is a huge determining factor in things like fuel economy. The reason that modern gas sipper only gets 22 city is because of it's weight. That 2.5 liter 4 cylinder is pushing the same amount of weight as the 7 liter V8 was. 4000lbs. Only this time the weight is due to safety features and extra gadgets weighing the car down. Now the weight isn't the only factor. Torque is another one. The more Torque an engine has, the less power is needed to get the car moving in the first place. Which leads into the next factor going from a standstill to moving. Going from a standstill to moving takes tons of energy. However it's easy to keep moving once motion has been achieved. The age old phrase "An object in motion tends to stay in motion, while an object at rest tends to stay at rest" applies here. The heavier an object is the more energy is needed to get it moving. For example one person weighs 180lbs, while another weighs about 250lbs. The person who weighs 180bls needs less energy to stand up from from a seated position. While the person who weighs 250lbs needs allot more. This is why modern cars with their smaller engines, are only about 10% more efficient than the older cars with bigger engines. They put a weaker engine into a car that weighs just as much as the old cars do. Want to know the first car to reach 40mpg? the 1973 Volkswagen Rabbit (AKA the Golf). This car got 44mpg and was incredibly fast, due to it being the lightest weight car at the time. Part of how it got such great gas mileage, is due to having a high torque diesel engine. At the time this car was built Hybrid technology didn't even exist. And yet it's fuel economy rivals that of Hybrid cars. See why I said this stuff was interesting?
