    Thanks for the video. Watching Maddie fly the 150 brought back memories of when I soloed back in high school (1976.) I couldn't afford to keep flying and went to work, while going to school and after, for the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the National Park Service. All that fell apart so I became a police officer and recently retired after 36+ years. Already made this too much about me. Point is that I look forward to watching your flying videos and your gun videos. Thank you, Jim

      quinnjim Thanks for the suggestion. I have thought about that but I believe that getting a medical certificate to fly will keep me grounded. I've been beat up pretty good over the years and the flying standards are higher than for policing on the ground. I'm not crippled and I can still hunt and everything but I've had some major surgeries on my neck and I have a new knee. I will just have to enjoy flying vicariously through you guys or from the back. I just did a quick scroll through your videos and saw one about your Kimber. I will probably have more to comment on about your gun videos since I've had more experience with guns. Thanks again and I look forward to checking out your video posts. Guns and flying, what can be better? Jim

    Watching her amazing flying in her other videos, she is just so cool as a cucumber. Its fun to see her excitement in this plane on her first flight, and now she will count the days till summer vacation from college! Between her flying and your son's, the hours will definitely build up on this little 150. I have 6 hours Sport Pilot training in a Skycatcher, and my third hour was Stalls and Recovery training. I had my own Zero G fun very not-on-purpose the first two times I tried to recover. Finally I realized that "push the stick forward" meant to neutral position, not ALL THE WAY! I'm already subscribed to her channel, can't wait to share these videos with my own daughter, in hopes she will get the flying bug.

    • @quinnjim
      @quinnjim  4 роки тому

      I looked pretty hard at the Skycatcher. You can pick one up for about 60-70K right now. I didn't like that they were made in China and Cessna basically destroyed the last 80 airframes without saving parts for current owners. That made me nervous. Hopefully this little 150 will last for a long time.

    'Girl Aviator' sounds good! Reminds me that Sylvie Bouffard in Canada has an interesting UA-cam channel, it could do with more flying but people like to follow everthing that such channels do if it is presented in an interesting fashion. I think that talking us through everything to do with a flight promotes major interest like when your brother was landing the Ercoupe and providing commentary ie:"... balloon... correction... (and so on)!' Taking time to set up cameras is worth it Good luck with it Maddie (and more really informative videos from your family are eagerly awaited)!

    Nothing wrong with That at all. The mighty Cessna 150 was the First plane I flew
    In 1971 and it was the Last plane I flew (my 5th and last plane) in the end of 2012. 😱
    That was after flying for a living everything from DC3s and DC4s up through 727, 737,
    747, DC10 & A300s for the transport category airplanes and the BE-18, 90, 99 200, Twin
    Otters, Merlins, the list goes on n on... SO, this will be an Excellent PIC time builder for Her..!! 😎👍✅

    That looked like alot of fun! I probably could've kept up with you guys there on the paramotor (if not for the headwind, hahaha!). Imagine flying across the country at that speed! Would take an eternity! I'd still take it over driving any day, though. :) :)
    I never understood how anyone could be offended by a TOOL! Blows my mind. Sure is a different world out there today, and I'm fairly certain I don't like it. 😟
    Good to see Maddie starting her own channel! I think it will do very well. Congrats on 7k subs, too!! Well deserved from what I've seen during my brief time here. 👍🍻
    My channel is all over the place. I've got auto repair, small engine repair, and I'm sure there will be some gun stuff mixed in, and future flights on my paramotor (if I ever get some nice weather up here in the Northeast), plus I was lucky enough to capture the last flight over my house of "Nine-O-Nine" (in late September - near KORH), before that unfortunate incident back in October in CT. Seems like too much work to start another channel for the aviation part. I barely have enough time to make videos as it is! Editing takes me forever. Computer problems aren't helping that, either.
    Anyway, I've rambled and taken up enough space here. That sunset view was fantastic! Maddie did a fantastic job with an aircraft she's never flown before - I'd trust her any day to fly me anywhere without ever having met her. Sign of both a great teacher, and a great learner. Thanks for sharing!

    Great aircraft you have there. I did all my PPL in a C-152 from a grass-strip (23N).
    Q: Will you be able to do instrument work in it for a rating?
    6:50 - As long as you're not hunting from inside the airplane... That could cause some adverse yaw.

    I remember during my training seeing a 152 basically helicoptering itself down to the runway with a nice stable headwind. He touched down and did not roll. Ok, maybe a few meters, not much more. Crazy. 152 was my first shot at flying and it was so great, like a Citroën 2CV kind of airplane. Deliciously basic. About the mirror on the dashboard, it’s meant so that the student pilot can check she’s keeping aligned with the departure runway while climbing out, because, yes, you have a rear window to look through, what other airplane gives you that? Such a lovable piece of airplane. Always brings a smile on your face, no matter what. One little issue though: electric flap switch is very easy to accidentally throw back to the up position, not possible on a Cherokee. Happened to me during my check ride. Passed it anyways. Still, very embarrassing. Lesson: keep your hand on the switch until indicating the desired position. Same applies to gear in a retractable. Flying an airplane remains the second most exciting thing to do in life. I miss it so much.

    Nice 150. Got my Private in a similar one...albeit not as nice. Are those replacement control wheels? They don't look like the originals as I remember them. And what a treat to be a family member's CFI. I'm certain you're proud!

      @@quinnjim ... I used to take the school planes over to Charleston (SC) to get the 100 hour done on the avionics. Free hours ya know... Charleston was a big part of MAC at the time. C-141's were everywhere! So the avionics were done (don't remember which plane...150-152-172? don't remember), and I get in to head back to home base... I was given the taxi to active...I get on, and what do I see eating up my ENTIRE rear view mirror? A C-141! I mean, that thing was HUGE...LOL.. and he wasn't that far behind me! (I think they were chuckling wondering what was going thru my mind lol) I even swung my head around and looked out the back window! All I could see was nose!! Like, I was looking UP at the nose! So I'm at active and brother I did the fastest run up in history! Probably kind of a "rolling run up" lol... I called tower ready for takeoff and could hear the laughter in their voice when they gave the cleared for take off call... They did NOT have to tell me to expedite! But I know they were laughing cause I expedited! (Literally the only thing I remember about the mirror lol)

    Not good to leave the tow bar attached. Years ago, when I was a lineboy, I pulled a C150 to the pumps to refuel. After, I jumped in it to taxi it to the tiedown. I started to taxi and suddenly remembered that I had left the tow bar attached. Without thinking, I touched the brakes. The nose strut compressed just enough to catch the tow bar which ended up in three pieces at the back of a large hanger. Fortunately, I hadn't put the planes back in the hanger yet. Moral of the story: always remove the tow bar after use.

    • @quinnjim
      @quinnjim  4 роки тому

      I knew a guy who took off with the tow bar attached in a Beechcraft Dutchess. The gear did not retract properly! That got expensive. We don’t start the engine in the hangar, so not much chance of forgetting it.

    • @fixedwing8907
      @fixedwing8907 4 роки тому

      It's about standardizing procedures. In my case, I got caught out because I decided to taxi the airplane to the tiedown instead of pushing it as I normally would. Normally, it would have been just fine for me to have left the towbar attached. That's why we set and reinforce procedures in aviation. If you always remove the towbar, then there is never the possibility of forgetting it.
