One thing i love is that they aren't all gold or silver. Each of them has a unique metallic color that really pops, especially Kualus's ice blue.
When I built these Mocs during the artwork contest, it too gave me nostalgia from building canisters sets back when Bionicle still hit the shelves. I’m glad with how the final canonized mocs turned out!
I actually wasn’t a fan of these when they were first coming out, but seeing them all together like this really does feel like it’s an official set of sets that we never got. One of my biggest complaints about Artakha was that he felt like a MOC, but these guys really do feel like sets, even with all their nonexistent pieces.
I love how natural they look together! Someone who isn’t a familiar fan might be challenged to guess which four are mocs.
I’m so happy we finally have a canon look for these Toa.
I like how they are simular but they all do thier own thing bomonga has a hunch back/bulky build and gaaki has a tall lean build which suits a toa of water very well

I think the Toa Hagah have my favorite designs of any toa team. especially toa Kualus with that scarf

This may be off-topic, but what is your favourite Toa build sets-wise?
I know this is probably late but I do have to give props to the Toa kualus build. Not only was the technique for maintaining friction on the gear piece was clever but I love how the mechanism behind it especially the red ball joint makes it look like a heart which is a neat detail.
To work around the sort of illegal ball in the torso, you probably could put either a studded axle connected to a stud connected to the front piece of the Metru torso or a regular axle connected to a cone brick conn. to the Metru torso piece.
You can't have anything occupying the technic hole in the metru chest cover on kualus, otherwise you won't be able to fit the nuva chest piece on.
The idea with the friction mod is that it's as noninvasive as possible, neither the form nor function of the original metru build is compromised.
Anyway, a much better alternative I've since discovered is to use a thin 14mm tire on a thin bushing behind a thin 12 tooth bevel gear instead of the regular sized gear in the back - no risk of damaging parts that way, and it allows for different hip height configurations that the ball method does not.
GOSH they look SO GOOD. It's things like this that make me want to get back into collecting (if money and space weren't an issue lol). I can't wait for them to do Lihkan and Nidhiki's team, if all goes according to plan.
(and have i mentioned before how happy it makes me that you put the elements in the same order that I always did as a kid? lol)
I watched it earlier today at work but couldn't comment. I enjoyed this video quite a lot. The sight of all 6 Toa Hagah together is really cool. I believed I said it a while back but I repeat it, I was not on board with them being of six metalic colors but now that they are finished and all together they look pretty darn great. Each with some individual flare but yet with common aesthetics.
Ain't no controversy like a Bionicle controversy! But I respect it. You have to have rules and people arguing about rules just means they really care.
I had the gold one when it first came out, was really found of that figure. Feels great to see a whole team lined up :D

Had him as a kid, and in my attempts to rebuild all of my childhood figures, he has been the main one that is just... gone. I just found his chest piece and the two spinners he came with. I have no idea where he could've gone but I'm so sad about it lmao
They look so amazing ! I love them all, especially the toa of earth, it feels so inventive

Overall, I'm happy with the result. Even though I didn't want metal green to be a thing, it has actually grown on me and now I can see why most people voted for it. The same goes for Gaaki's mask, at the beginning, I didn't want Bionicle to have a mask without a defined power. But I must admit, this one is really something else in design.
My only complaints are the usage of a metru foot as chest armor for Bomonga (it doesn't cover the chest properly) and the leg design for Kualus (is basically a copy of Toa Metru and doesn't reflect he comes from a different island). It could have been done better by at least switching the metru leg with another piece.
When you have them all standing in the same pose 24:00, that's when you can see how good the contrasting armors look. Although personally I'm not sure I like all of their colour combos, they are still great nonetheless.
I'm angry I didn't grow up with this theme, it's super interesting to research these guys, I just wish I had a few sets
You know what I'd love to see? Sets of the Barraki before they were mutated.

My personal favorite team of Toa is the original Toa Mata/Nuva, but this is my second personal favorite team of Toa. It’s great to see how unique each member is, which can get lost especially when using the same building style.
This makes me want to get and make the pieces for these guys. I only got Iruini as a kid, but I'm gonna start completing my bionicle collection with these guys included
Not sure if you read these but man your channel is awesome I have been getting back to Bionicle and your content has been a real joy to get into.
Idk, I really hate how they have all different functionality aside from Pouks from the actual sets. Bomonga not having a spinner for some reason irks me, and the metallic green makes him look more like the toa of air than Iruini. I also hate how several of them use pieces that didn't exist back then, especially the G2 blade. The question should have been "if they were to have released all of the toa Hagah instead of just 2 back then, what would they have looked like?" There is a specific time period, form factor, and parts inventory they exist in. I think straying from that in any way shape or form is bad, and I think oddly enough, despite how Pouks was the least off form in every other regard, the use of the two parts that clearly didn't exist back then makes it the worst offender really sticks out. Gaaki's shoulder plate pieces bother me less though, they feel a lot more general, and the Piraka leg piece doesn't really bother me at all. Not sure if they existed at the same time, but that part would have been in development, so it's not implausible, but the Pridak blade does bother me a little. I'm not sure how to feel about the scarf... On one hand, it's really cool. On the other, it also doesn't sit right with me. Feels way too much like a MOC than an official set. Bomonga kind of feels alright to me in terms of the build. I think the posable shoulder joints shouldn't have been poseable, as much as that's worse. I do feel like having a total of 9 official Metru builds with very little variation should have been a clear sign that a Bomonga set would not have been the single one out as being drastically different. I guess in terms of purism, they could have been a lot worse, but unlike the other cannon contest characters, there is a clear model already set in stone that they should have been based on. I guess for any of the cannon contest characters I hate seeing them using CCBS parts, not because I dislike CCBS, but because the characters in the cannon contest are G1 characters, not G2 characters.
The Toa Hagah look really angelic.

I'm making some modifications to the Toa to make them closer to the sets.
To Bomonga, well, the torso limbs were disqualifying stuff that due to a poor control passed the contests. So, I'm replacing them with vahki limbs to keep the volume of the character. I might paint the connectors black also.
With Gaaki, I'm changing the shoulder armor to nuva shoulders, because the Kalmah armor placed on ball joints sort of break the overall cohesion of the team. There are two metru shoulders and two kk shoulders, so it seemed fitting to have two nuva shoulders as well.
Also, I changed their eye color to blue and red respectively to have a 1:1:1:1:1:1 eye color distribution.

Having the shields and spears gives them this really cool Praetorian Guard kind of vibe that I find baddass
Very nice review. I have a question, does Iruini have his mask in the shape of another Kanohi as well? Because from what I could find on the wiki it seems like that's the actual shape of the Kualsi which made me wonder if the whole "masks shaped as other masks for honorary reasons" applied to all the other Hagah or not.
Iruini seems to be the exception to the rule

The only difference with his previous mask before joining the Hagah team, is that his mask is now metallic gold. (This is why Defilak is wearing the same mask as Iruini with the same powers, while Dekar is wearing a Kiril and not a Pehkui)
When you look into each of their masks and citations on bs01, you can find a quote from Greg originally confirming Pouks' mask would also be shaped like a typical Mask of Emulation, from an answer to a question about the Emulation/Absorption mask merger from over a decade ago.
The shapes of their masks are just to honor past heroes in-universe, which is still the case with Iruni's Kualsi, he just happened to already wear a Kualsi so the power lines up with its shape.
If all canon information about these characters' appearance were archived as-is, and the rules and limitations for the contest were comprised of only explicitly canon material, without conjecture or anything... Pouks at least should have worn a regularly-shaped mask too.
(I believe there is 1 quote out there where Greg says, like Norik, all other Hagah wear masks that are not in the tradition shapes associated with their respective powers, but the quote includes Iruni if taken literally, when we know his is an exception already, delegitimizing the statement as absolute, as it's often interpreted)
Gotta say, I explicitly remember Greg saying the whole thing about the Toa Hagah's models actually Dume and Nidhiki was discussed for like, 10 seconds during development and that was it. It's a bit of a myth.
I hear complaints about "now MY Toa Hagah team won't count" but to be fair, we did have like 17 years to make one. Though I don't get the Rhotuka Shield not being functionally usable for one of them and the colours being different in the canonical art from the canonical models, like it's hard enough to just build these for yourself on the latter alone with the unique masks that naturally weren't produced by LEGO (I mean, are there official parts that would do a good job substituting those if you wanted to be 100% authentic? Obviously Lesovikk/Hahli Mahri's mask looks similar, as does the 2008 Matoran's to the Mask of Emulation, and another one can be mostly covered by a scarf...), shouldn't that be just as "valid"? Why'd they change it up for the art, the same fandom that complains that we never got the right colour pieces for early Le-Matoran? There's also the usage of 2006-onward parts in what's meant to be 2005 sets that irks me, but I could see the argument that they could have developed more unique molds anyway had these sets come to fruition.
Looking back on this almost a year later is crazy. Childhood dream of mine to be able to have these guys in a canon form, it’s incredible. I’m curious to see what filament you used for the gunmetal parts of Pouks? I can’t find a single one other than silk black or a very expensive pla lmao

TTV mandated metru builds because Greg said they were Mettu builds. The metallic color distripution rule was to me welcomed but had not much in terms of canon to have been based on
Im still not sold on metallic green Bomonga honestly, not that I can see a better alternative. Maybe 200 Lemon Metallic (was used for kraata and krana)?

It's interesting that Toa Lhikan is also considered an elite Toa(worth six in battle according to Nidhiki), but wasn't chosen for a Toa Hagah team. I think he'd fit in with the Toa Hagah though.
I'd give Koallus platinum color, and Bomonga amber. Black&amber would look a killer combo.

Love the whole set but I would maybe change bomonga's staff weapon top instead to something more stronger looking like maybe one of the knights kingdom weapons like sir kentis mace or sir adric axe, or maybe Karzon's morning star. Otherwise great collection man. Also would love if you did a video on the ash bear. Always loved that rahi from the movie and hated that we never got a set from lego.

I had an idea for a model that would bring the Bionicle and the Hero Factory worlds together in a way that isn’t just the old parallel universe thing, and my model would use the Mask of Time (I will just have to buy it, and make some modifications so that the back of the head isn’t exposed due to how the Mask of Time is designed since I don’t have a 3-D printer nor the money for the ink which I hear is the most expensive part of the printer)! I’ve got a story for him, but I’ll won’t take up the comment section telling it yet and I’ll only do so if people want to hear it! I was originally going to put my model on Lego Ideas, but maybe I’ll look into this first!
