GHILLIE SNIPER Tactics - Hide Techniques

  • Sniper hide position and the dangers of leaving hide. Why I sit in front of cover while utilising my camouflage (movement & silhouette), why I prefer sitting to laying face down (dynamic) and what to do when the enemy is in your blind spot and has his gun pointing at you.
Let me know what you think about this video, would you like to see more of them? It is not gospel, these are techniques that I employ and thoughts on common situations you will find yourself in as a ghillie sniper. Always think, consider, learn and evolve. Intelligence & guille are our best weapons as airsoft snipers; never stop learning, never stop thinking.

One thing I probably didn't make clear in the video, watching it back, is that by sitting in front of cover it makes it easier to turn and check your blind spot, because the cover behind you disguises your movement as you check around yourself. Of course, if the enemy is in front of you and observing your position you will likely be spotted anyway. But I am more likely to be spotted by an unseen opponent behind me, rather than an enemy from in front in an area I had been observing.
Leaving hide is a dangerous time, when you can very easily turn from predator to prey.

Great video. Please make more when you can. Also, might mention that you should try not to be on the highest spot around, everyone looks there first. Better to be a bit lower and use what's behind you to hide your silhouette.

I personally find hiding behind a bunch of bracken or deadwash quite useful. It offers some protection. Also I would probably highlight the importance of very slow movement (as you mentioned briefly) so as not to draw attention to yourself. I'm predominantly a hunter/stalker. I make use of any cover that I can find and blend myself into whatever surrounds I find myself in. I like your clips. I get some good ideas from watching them.

    *This series will be interesting!*
*People are hard-wired to detect the human shape, faces, and movement.* *If you eliminate these, you're basically invisible.* *As shown in the video, the player in all black was more concerned about stepping in water - than looking for enemies.*

So for me I have no knowledge and experience with doing airsoft games or being a sniper, but many people cannot afford such ghillie suit but a good trick if you want to hide and make a hasty ghillie your own. Shinobi often carried kaginawa or grappling hook around and they may carry two for different tasks, one of which they can improvised a ghillie using the grappling hook by lashing it all over the body, The cord can act like a netting which you can attach natural foliage around them. It was also a great idea to make a ghillie from preserved animal skin with an head left on it. The animal hide with the head can be a good deception tool against the enemy ambush.
Another thing that many snipers should keep in mind is to have two cover from either directions. It will be also recommended for new snipers to have their optics like glasses or binocular. I've been also starting to do wildlife photography using the animal tracking/stalking technique; it will be recommended for new airsoft gamers and snipers to use their stealth skills in practice.
    I can suggest to the airsoft gamers about using these searches for your next milsim, cqb, and game;
    - 8 fundamental camouflage elements
    - animal stalking
    - orientation/navigation fundamental skills
    - (military/shinobi) stealth fundamentals
for resource I would suggest looking into
    - airsoft/hunting/national park service forums
    - blackscoutsurvival

I'm so excited that you finally did a video like this! Countless are the times where I had every advantage, every right to take a guy down, but I felt like I was overexposed & did not trust my camo (and naturally got punished for it lol). This vid was a good reminder that having faith in your concealment is more important then any rifle or pistol upgrade. Thanks for the great video, and I hope you do more like this one!

Andrew Werner I agree 100%. It’s why I usually suggest new snipers start with an MK23 pistol and work on their camo, stalking & technique before wortying about long range shooting.

Good info! It would be nice, from time to time, for you to include some video of your position from a distance. As if the camera were the enemy heading your way. Just to help with how good you have created your suit to blend into your surroundings, and help others with ideas on building the perfect suit for themselves. Appreciate your videos my friend. 👍

I certainly understand using game footage. Possibly you could have someone shoot some video when a game has finished. At least you’d still be in your gear and at the wooded area. It’s obvious you’re a smart man, so I’m sure you’ll find the best way if you decide to add it. Thanks

Great idea. I have a drone I have used, but it is tricky to find the time... especially during winter, the darkness comes quickly after a game, and often there is a long drive home... When I have used the drone it has been during lunchtimes. I will use the drone again ASAP...
Thanks for the ideas, much appreciated.

best thing u can get for laying down as a ghillie is a para scope just look threw it while looking forwards and have it pointing behind u so u dont have to expose your self so then u can hope to rely on your ghillie while they pass by edit: make sure u cover the parascope to match the ghillie

As I have stated before all of your helpful hints and tricks are truly appreciated. I love the way you have laid the foundation for your tips. It does seem a tricky situation when leaving a hide. And there probably is no true one hundred percent perfect way to do it. But I agree that having cover behind you can be an asset especially when you are unaware of where all the enemy is located. It gives great food for thought. I truly look forward to the next installment of this series it has helped me greatly already. Thank you.

Nice one, mate. I hope I can show in future that the key to being a good stealth player is not a ghillie, it is sharp and thoughtful mind. We all get seduced by the beauty of our ghillie suits but the truth is they only enhance our abilities. They do not give us abilities.

    • @GameMasterDude230

Always good stuff KM. I borrow ideas from you all the time, but since I live it the hot climate fo Florida I can't see myself using a suit like yours. The various camo that I have are hot enough. Still there are lots of great ideas that you remind us. Your stillness and silence are exemplary and just watching you in action is good teaching. Thanks!

I may be a little late, but some tips I could give is 1. Try to find what they call “ultra light” jute and stuff, it’s not as heavy and is 20x cooler (temperature wise)
      2. Make your own ghillie suit, there’s nothing worse than going online to see a sick looking ghillie suit, just to receive it and see it looks nothing like the photos.
      3. If you plan to prone a lot, or just stay still, don’t put jute, raffia, etc on your front, it will also help keep you cooler.
I hope this kinda helped, even though I am late 😂

As sniping is a static and positional way of fighting I probably would add certain conditions before actually leaving the position.
    1) Try to determine your next advantage position (in a strategic way , but also from a camouflaging way ) before moving.
    2) choose the appropriate way of moving , crawl, squatted walk , stand up walk ,according to environment ( height /shape vegetation)
    3) always be aware of the pace your moving/ determine the pace you ill be performing the displacement.
    4) scan your surroundings for opposition
    5) use tactical hand signals for communicating
only after these checks, start to initiate the displacement

Just had a thought, I don't know if it would be useful. If you attached a camo'd up compact mirror to you rifle, you could fold it out to scan behind you with minimal movement, then close it up again so the shine doesn't give you away while you're moving about.

When its for keeps, I'm reluctant to hide in front of cover. But then, you don't always know which way your enemy will come from.
