This scene played to perfection by both actors. All Dark Shadows fans know almost all mistakes are ignored and not retaped. Can't find any acting flaws here. Bravo.
All the DS actors and actresses were on their A game while doing the 1795 storyline. The only scenes better than this one was Trask getting walled up and those with Jonathan Frid and Louis Edmonds together after Joshua discovered Barnabas undead.
It really was a great scene for both of them. Very dramatic but not over-the-top. Well, maybe the part where Barnabas shows Abigail he is a vampire could have been a little different if it didn't look like the dentist just told him to open wide and stare at him a bit too long.
The ending of the previous episode with "Abigail... what are you doing here?" was actually filmed and edited way better than it was at the beginning of this episode, much more traumatic and terrifying.
Definitely a top 5 scene in history of Dark Shadows. I personally put it #2 only behind the scene where Joshua finds Barnabas in his coffin. I also enjoyed Trask being walled up by Barnabas right at the top.
Incredible delivery of dialogue from Mr. Frid. Excellent acting from both. Perfect ending for Abigal. It was her that started the whole frenzied witch hunt of Miss Winters. Trask was just the by product of her fanaticism.
No it is not. SHE was MISTAKEN to believe it was Miss Winters, even the countess Natalie Duprea had her suspicions however Abigail was right all along about there being a witch in the house.
Thank you for uploading this. :) I loved this series. I was always impressed by the power of Jonathan Frid's voice. It was such a commanding voice, and no one could portray the character quite as effectively as he could. Mr. Frid was the definitive Barnabas Collins.

This is the only Collins death that Angelique played no part in. Her curse was that all those who loved Barnabas were destined to die, and it was obvious that he and Abigail had no love for each other. In this case, it was Abigail's own nosiness that proved to be her demise. (If anything, Abigail was useful to Angelique since it was Vicky she accused of being the witch).
It's arguable whether Abigail loved Barnabas or not. She showed concern for him when she began investigating Angelique right around the time they got married.
I believe Barnabas wouldn't kill his own Aunt. He meant to give her the bite of a vampire and turn her into one of the undead. Instead, she got a heart attack.
Being one of the undead technically means you are dead. xD I think he meant to make her one of his blood-slaves to prevent her from talking. She could have been a great help in freeing Vicki from persecution.
Actually, it would have been beautifully ironic. She would become that which she always claimed to despise, a (theoretical) minion of the devil. She might even have suicided by walking out into the sunlight in order to escape this fate... or she might have turned into a more conventional monster and gone after everyone she envied. Yes, envied because she was a spinster in an age when that was not socially desirable.
Clarice Blackburn was such a good actress. And the role of Abigail in the 1795 storyline was the best. A dried-up, bitter old spinster of a woman. A fanatical Christian. With no concept of Christian love or charity.
Her portrayal of Mrs. Johnson the housekeeper in the then present was endearing - what a sweetheart of a gal. Truly shows you Clarice’s talents - her range - as no two characters could be so disparate.to one another.
This scene gets my infinite applause. Never was I happier to see someone’s demise than here with this old crone. Always looking for a witch when the stunningly evil Angelique was right under her very nose
Barnabas was just as good as Sir Christopher Lee. Only Barnabas was a good vampire who loathed what he was. Christopher Lee wanted to be an evil despot.
This is actually why I liked Sir Christophers vampire more, pure vampire, not a speck of compassion. Having said that, in terms of performance and pure terror inspiring presence, Frid is up there in Lee's class when he is being 'evil' Barnabas, and both had killer voices to boot. Both were far better than Lugosi in my opinion.
yes it was. Abigail & Trask were both very evil people. since day 1 they accused Vicky as being a witch. this was a great scene. the funny part is why Abigail didn't run. Barnabas called her Abigail, not Auntie. Ha Ha. DARK SHADOWS was very entertaining.
Well, I thought Vickie never did a very good job of defending herself. Then when Joshua turns back into a human being after being a cat, on Vickie's bed !
