This is a great message. I started to learn how to do wheelies on my BMX bike this year... at 55 years old. Initially i worried i looked goofy to other people for doing something so childish. But then i stopped caring what others may or may not think, and I have gotten much better. I just love the journey. And the few people that stopped and said anything to me had nothing but very nice things to say.
Thank you for taking the time to share your story. As I said, I talk a lot about skateboarding but it could be any other sport or hobby that we stopped doing because of what people might say or do. Just like you… I still love street skating and I understand how some people might look at us differently… luckily, that’s not our problem… it’s their problem! 👊🏻
Sick brother! I’m on the same path. Starting at 55 skating parks. Love it and love this channel. My experience is all the people I meet at the parks are supper helpful. Sometimes and stop and look at realize I’m the oldest one here. So fortunate to be able to do this at our age when so many can’t. Ride on my brother on wheels
@zuma3334 thanks man… I’m really happy that you enjoyed the video and welcome to our humble OG skate channel. 55? That’s great and yes, we need to remind ourselves of how lucky we are to still doing this at our age. Keep shredding bro ✌🏻
Good message. I've used mindfulness to get over the stress of learning to skateboard as a not so young dude. All the fear dissipates as soon as I get the first push in and it's liberating. I talked about this with my local skateshop owner and what he had to say was also really funny -- "if anybody tells you anything, just give them the board and tell them to do better if it's so easy". Remarkably, I've had nothing but positive experiences cruising outside.
That’s awesome… I’m glad you enjoyed! Skateboarding is hard and as you get older it becomes even harder. On the other hand, the pleasure never goes away and our worries “paused” as soon as you get that wind on your face. 🙏🏻
Wow, amazing quality! And most importantly, absolutely deep message. Skateboarding is about joy. No one cares if you suck at skateboarding, what your friends should really care about is if you're skating with them and having a good time, that's all that matters. Cheers!
Que fotografia. Que mensagem. O UA-cam não me notificou desse vídeo. Resolvi dar um pulo aqui depois do seu comentário. Que bom que o skateboard is alive in your heart and soul.
Great video and solid message mate, you absolutely have to do it for yourself first and foremost! Validation and/or admiration is a nice by-product if it comes your way but you shouldn’t waste your time seeking it. At our age we’re past caring what other people think and we start to get a little more selfish towards yourself which is a good thing. We often spend our teenage years worrying what other people think about us so by the age we are now it’s time to please ourselves. I know for a fact some people I skate with talk and laugh about me behind my back about me wearing all the pads while I skate or that my preferences are 80’s style tricks and looks but I really don’t care , I actually think it’s funny that other people can waste so much of their own time being concerned about what I’m doing with my life 🤣 I love stoicism, especially some of the quotes from Marcus Aurelius. It’s a great perspective to have. Well done mate 👊🏼
Yes mate… stoicism can be extremely beneficial in our lives right now and is good to know that we are just touching the surface as there is so much more to learn about. Being an older skater and on top of that, a UA-camr you really need a thick skin sometimes. You must be able to ignore those trying to drag you down and as you also said, focus only on who you are and follow those principles. That’s right… part of this is about self knowledge but it also comes with time and maturity. Good to be surrounded by the right people as well… saying that, thanks for always being there my friend. Right from the start! 👊🏼
Right on Ronaldo! Thanx 4 another great film! Your fantastic doco featuring 70 Y.O. Franck from France really resonated with me and motivated me to surf skate quite frequently after having a break from sk8ing, partially as a result of being frustrated with my limited trick repertoire. Just recently started doing some lo-velocity trix again and you have helped me get some stoke back and dig sk8ing once again. Props re your inspiring films and for projecting your positive sk8 philosophies etc. Thanx a lot. Happy skateboarding, filmmaking and living! Max from Melbourne, Australia 🛹😎👍
Thanks Max… Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad I was somehow able to help you to get back on the board. The level of skateboarding these days is so high but who cares… I’m also doing my simple tricks super slow and not very high at all. On the other hand, the feeling that we get is that we are popping huge tricks at 100mph… : ) Glad you enjoyed the video. Motivates me to makes some more. Thanks for taking the time to write! 🙏🏻
"whatever, I don't care" is one of the most powerful messages you can give anyone. I posted something similar the other day, your version is a lot more articulated than mine, but the overall message is the same 😂 keep killing it and living your best life 👊
Oh thank you my friend… we both know how easy it’s is to get frustrated if we start listening to what other people have to say. Glad we have this little community on here to support each other. Haven’t checked your video yet but I’ll soon. All the best buddy! 👊🏼
It’s an endless learning journey but considering where we started a few years ago we have to agreed that we’ve made some good progress. Thank you sir… thank you for the compliment! 🙏🏻

(before i watch the video) I CARE BRO I CARE AND ALWAYS HAVE If I could stop caring I would STOP SKATEBOARDING!! But what else will I do with my life?? Where will I get the same rush?? Nothing even compares!!
A good message Ronaldo! ❤💯 I really can't embrace it though, even if I think that it would be good for me. For better or worse, my self loathing and self criticism is a big part of my drive and my motivation to skate. 😅 I fear that, if I reach a place where I am satisfied with my level of skating, that I will be content enough so I will stop skating all together. 🫣
I guess you know what drives you and that on its own is enough to keep you motivated. Skating with your daughter must feel amazing and I’m sure you both feed from each other which is beauty to see. Thanks mate… open discussion here and always great to hear different opinion. Hope to be able to skate with you a Leya one day. 👊🏼
