I'm glad to see an American who went into the Foreign Legion talk in detail about it. Most of the Time it's Germans, French (of course), Poles, Hungarians, Russians etc. who write Books or in detail talk about it. Especially interesting in this Case because he was a Navy Seal before that, so interesting to hear his Comparisons and Differences.

As a former member of the Foreign Legion I have no problem with this dude selling his stories, even deserters have a tale to tell. He can badmouth, belittle and degrade the Legion if he so desires and I still have no problem because he is a deserter, a man who has shown himself to be without honor; a man who cannot be taken at his word.
What I DO have a problem with is this dude's reason for his desertion. I heard him say that his youtube videos were saving lives and that the Legion interfered with him doing God's work of saving lives. That's a new reason for desertion.....I did it to do God's work. So, let God work with him on that, but I am shocked at how accepting his fan base is concerning his lack of honor and commitment to his word. If they want to idolize a USNavy SEAL, I would recommend Drago, a man of honor. LPN

I agree with you I also serve in the legion. I was discharge for medical problems after 3 years in service and I got my CBC. I still regret not being able to finish my 5 years contract. and as you say this guy is selling life advice without mentioning his lack of commitment. The Legion is a really challenging place specially in the psychological aspect don't blame him for being a deserter but for trying to capitalize on it. When you're a Legionnaire you don't talk shit about the legion with the public you share it with yours comrades.

Glad your comment is at the top, and I read it first. Saves me the hour watching and listening to this guy. He gives off bad vibes as soon as he opens his mouth. Now I know he couldn't even finish honorable service. I knew SEALs back in the 80s when I was in the Navy and none of them were anything like the social media "heroes" we see today. They all want to be YT famous and live off ad revenue I guess. Pass.

@@shep68 Once people get bored with this type of stuff and something new comes along, they’ll have no ground to stand on, bro should’ve completed his contract with the Legion - as a Marine, who is honorably discharged - that discharge meant everything to me, although it doesn’t seem to mean anything to current employers. I did my best to retain it (NCO's and officers that did not like me and pushed me to the brink - but then I realized they may have been consiously or subconsciously trying to make me do something that would "break" me and cause me to beat the hell out of a higher rank and thus lose my Honorable Discharge (and thus lose my GI Bill) I just started to play along. I didn’t want four years to stain the rest of my life, so there was no way in Hell that I was gonna leave without the honorable discharge. But this was back in 96. I think the new generation doesn’t seem to value commitment and dedication these days (Is that what teletubby-raised kid's do now?) These Pre Millenial / millenials seem to be more about making a quick buck ( "It's all about me me me!" ) because everybody else is trying to be a youtuber. Or social influencer.

I think Taylor Cavanaugh is one of the most interesting Persons that has been online of late. My only problem with the story is how he left the Legion. He deserted the Legion with almost 8 months of service left. So he is kicked out of the U.S. Navy, Eventually joins the legion and finds what he needs for the time. The Legion helped save him and doesn't get kicked out, but chooses to desert. I understand what it was over, as I listened to one of the other Podcasts where Taylor explained why he went AWOL from the Legion. Had he gotten out of the Legion honorably his story would be absolutely incredible. What the story says now is Taylor found trouble in both of his military services to the U.S. and France.

He practically threw away his career in the seals by getting into a dumb bar fight. I've a similar story to Taylor. I served in the Royal Irish Regiment from 2002 to 2008. I tried for the SAS and they screwed me on the background check. I left the regiment and hit the booze hard. I went to FFL to "find myself". I hated every minute of it, I got cancer while serving. I realised that I didn't need to run away to fix myself. I’m glad he asked him that question about “closed doors”! Like if he was born that way to never see a closed door as the end or if it came from hard work and determination! I’ve always been like that. At a young age I actually thought it was my charm that opened some of these doors, like no one could deny me requests! Perhaps sometimes it was I guess. But then it was brought to my attention how if and when I’m turned away and out of ideas or answers I would always ask, “what should I do”! Or “then how do I get in there”, “what would you do if you were me”! Thing of that sort! I did this subconsciously too! But I also have the attitude that regardless, things will be alright. I’ll land on my feet and if I don’t then I’ll pick myself up and walk that shit off!

Really great to hear this story, very glad things worked out for you and that you were willing to go the extra mile to achieve your goals, especially since the main one was to serve your country! I would like to say the beginning of your story is very similar to my earlier life, except when I tried to enlist, I too was also on probation! I ended up taking a diversionary deal (which I didn't know would take 5 yrs.) to expunge my record, only to find out that I had to wait until it was over to enlist! Unfortunately, during my wait I got in a little trouble and they took my diversion away, so was unable to enlist, really wish I would have known of going to the FFL! Definitely think that would have changed my life, I'm from a military family and so I got very depressed when I couldn't serve, so I just said screw it and got in more trouble! I have gotten my life mostly back on track now and am doing alright, I just wanted to share that, so you know that meant a lot to me and I hope other young guys like us who have had rough childhoods see this and know there is always a way, don't give up like I did, I still regret it! Thanks for serving and sharing!

Taylor is a very controversial figure to me. I’ve watched numerous podcasts with him and on him. He seems to have accomplished a lot but at the same time he never finishes what he starts. Even at this point in his life he refused to finish out his FFL contract because they wanted him to stop posting on social media. He couldn’t just hold for a few months. But instead he gave them the finger and left. He seems like the guy that goes after what he wants but when things don’t go his way he’s nothing but excuses and justifications and now he’s making a living from that. My PERSONAL, conclusion is he’s the person/example of what not to become.

I'm not opposed to swearing, I swear sometimes, and used to swear quite a bit in the Marines. But this would come across as much more credible if these guys toned the swearing down a little. It's purely a habit and can be fixed by discipline and self awareness. Two attribute this channel promotes and attempts to model.

I am going to get lots of flaks for expressing what I personally believe, but this has to be said. 1) If you desert the FFL or any branches of any militaries, on the basis that you did it because, you were ordered to delete social media videos or posts, you are in the wrong business in the first place. I am afraid this is a generational issue. Nowadays, guys are obsessed with public recognition and gratification, in lay man's terms, narcissism and vanity. The 15 minutes of fame virus, affecting entire generations of men who should know better. This not the way soldiers are supposed to act, especially someone with special operations background. What about the codes and the "silent professional" philosophy and ethics?. A special force operator is supposed to be low-key, humble and discreet. I know there are cultural differences between the US SF community and their Europeans counterparts. Back in the days, it was unthinkable for former British SAS or men from France SF units to go public, show their faces, spill the beans on social medias, and become "celebrities". Nowadays, I see more and more guys from the non US SF community, acting like former US Sf operators. This is turning into a dog and pony show, and this is deplorable.
    2) anyone can observe the differences from men who belong to the 70s-80s and even 90s generations of special forces operatives, to what we have now. Back in the days, these men were extremely athletic, but not obscenely hyper muscular, and not completely covered with tattoos. Nowadays, this is a requirement, and it was demonstrated in the first minutes of the show, "obviously you look like a f~cking Seal...". What the f~ck is that supposed to mean, obviously looking like a Seal?. Most of the novices who don't know anything about the world of special operations, don't understand that, obviously looking like a special forces operator, is a major handicap, going as far as being a potential deadly handicap, especially if you are involved in clandestine operations. And here is the catch, being a special force operator is not systematically synonymous with clandestine special forces operator. The clandestine operator has to fade into the environment, adapt to it, and function as if it was a natural habitat. Despite their amazing abilities and training, most of the American Tier One special forces operators, wouldn't last 15 minutes, if you drop them in plain clothes, in the middle of a hostile city., because they look, sound and act so American. Honestly, I don't want to rude, because I respect a man who went through the hardships of SOF trainings, but this type of shows, are utterly inappropriate, in my humble opinion....
