What Are The Bags Next to the Railroad Tracks ?

  • What are the bags next to the railroad tracks ? You will see them all over Miami & Hialeah at FEC CSX Tri Rail and Amtrak crossings and I hear they're even showing up in Atlanta Georgia now! They're placed along the train tracks or at railroad crossings. It is part of an Afro Cuban Religion called Santeria (worship of the Saints) and in these bags are the offerings to the saints. They are placed track side in hopes that the train takes the bad spirits away with it.

The people who do this stuff should be charged with littering and trespassing. Last I checked both are still illegal, but laws change all the time so maybe not.

    • @brianleeper5737
      @brianleeper5737 5 років тому +2

@@railrol82 The way it used to work is that one group of people may exercise a right (in this case, freedom of religion) only to the degree it does not infringe on the rights of others--such as the railroad's property rights (trespassing laws) and the right of the general public to be free of the health hazards associated with rotting animal carcasses (littering laws).
I wonder what will happen when one of the clowns who does this stuff gets creamed by a train. Oh wait, I already know---their next of kin will sue the railroad for not doing SOMETHING (what?) to prevent the accident...and probably win.
      The world's gone crazy.

OMG! This explains what I saw about 22 years ago in New Jersey!!! I was railfanning near a Conrail freight yard and spotted a rather active freight line that went through an industrial area near a large restaurant called Tio Pepe's. In the parking lot, way in the back by the tracks, a young woman pulled up and didn't see us in the car (It was a cold winter morning). She climbed up the pile of ballast and put a plastic bag on the tracks (balanced it on the rail!) and then took off in her car. My friend and I had the same disturbing thought that she just dumped a baby. We went up and opened the bag, it had a piece of steak (like a London broil) in a women's thong underwear, wrapped in newspaper! We never knew what to think about that, now it makes sense. I wonder who she put the "evil eye" on and what that person did to her! Thanks RailROL82, like always, great video!

That's interesting, thank you for sharing with us. I guess every ethnic background or groups have their own beliefs and superstitions.
For instance, I know you've seen Sicilians wearing that little horn necklace. They're not quite as popular as they were in the 70s and 80s, but they're still out there. It's called the Cornicello, and it is supposed to protect you against the curse of the Malocchio, or the "evil eye"
Malocchio was meant to curse the wombs of women or the sperm of men to affect the Next Generation negatively with bad vibes.
I don't believe in any of that stuff either, but I wear one just because my family always wore them, and I
    kind of like it.
Now this is just a loose explanation of it, but it sounds similar to what you explained.
Thank you man, I love learning stuff like this with different beliefs

I was raised as a Catholic, until I was told by a priest not to read the Bible as it would confuse me. Being the type of person that if told not to do something I probably would do it. After reading the Bible when I was 14, I found many discrepancies between the Bible and Catholic doctrine. No priest can absolve me of my sins no matter how many 'Hail Mary's' I repeat. I also don't need to pray to saints as a go between to pass my prayers to God. I have no problem with anyone who belongs to the Catholic church or any other denomination as that's their choice. I don't need any priest, minister, pastor or anyone else to interpret the Bible for me as if I listen the Holy Spirit interprets it for me. I also believe this Voodoo stuff is nonsense. Sacrificing animals for favors from God ended in the Old Testament. For the record, I'm not a real wizard, awizardalso is just a variation of my nickname 'wizard' as I have a talent for fixing things and sometimes even things that are considered to be unfixable, and turning something someone is throwing away into something put to a good use.

My uncle used to own a liquor store/lounge on 29th street between 2nd ave and Red Road in Hialeah (29 WEST LIQUORS). People would come in during certain times of the year and buy bottles of Aquaiante (spelling?) and light it on fire in glasses at their homes during Santeria. We never sold any otherwise.

It's amazing what people will do in order to harm someone else.
On another subject, remeber your adventrues in the Bensenville Industrial Park on the west end of O'Hare International Airport earlier this year? I was watching a UA-cam video from "SamLoversTrains" that was titled something like the "Last Day of Operations for Chicago Terminal Railroad". He followed the Chicago Terminal's SW1500 (former Southern Pacific engine) collecting cars from the Industrial Park to take to the Bensenville Yard of Canadaian Pacific on 30 June 2019 which was supposed to be the last day of operations for Chicago Terminal. I commented on the video and asked Sam who was going to take over the switching in the Industrial Park. Sam said Canadian Pacific was supposed to take over the switching and rumor has it that they may tear up the trackage at some point in time. I watched the video yesterday and Sam replied to my comments early today (4 August 2019). As of 4 August 2019, I have no idea if Canadian Pacific is swtiching the Bensenville Industrial Park or not. If anyone who is subscribed to RailROL82 knows anything about who is switching the Bensenville Industrial Park west of O'Hare International Airport, please let us know who is currently doing the switching and what the future status of this operation might be.

Where I'm from known as Atlanta Ga... We have that exact same problem with our railroad crossings right here in Atlanta too, with voodooist known to leave voodoo paraphernalia along side of the railroad tracks & crossings in the downtown Atlanta area, which had turned out to be a big problem for both the CSX & Norfolk Southern railroad companies, and it's railroad workers who complain about seeing voodoo paraphernalia everytime that they comeout to service the railroad tracks as well as the railroad crossings daily, that even WSB channel 2 news had to step in and do a t.v. news report investigation about that while back.

Thanks for posting this, and I'm glad my nagging paid off. Now you also can call yourself a railroad anthropologist, although I'm sure no railroad endorses Santeria. Also, the Supreme Court (you didn't specify Florida's or the U.S., but I assume it's SCOTUS) has ruled the right to freely practice the religion of your choice is not absolute: Mormons could not practice polygamy, and parents cannot deny their children life-preserving medical just because they want to wait for divine intervention to save the life of a very sick child. So I suspect that SCOTUS may have ruled that animal sacrifice may be protected religious behavior, leaving chicken carcasses on the tracks (which are private property) is NOT a protected religious practice. Any lawyers or Constitutional scholars have any info on this?
