- Marked For Death Abandoned Railroad Crossing Restored ?
First this railway crossing gets destroyed by Hurricane Irma by breaking all the crossing gates in 2017 (Link to video below). Then, the last 12 miles of the CSX Homestead Subdivision were officially abandoned on March 2019 ( The last 12 miles begin from here South ). And now it is officially on the chopping block with a recently installed stop sign on the train tracks which I assume CSX placed. Not to mention there are 10 feet tall weeds and trees growing between the rails along with rotting cross ties and missing rail spikes along the tracks going South! The signals have all been folded up and the crossing gates removed in addition to the stop sign. The last train to use this line was in 2016 and it was for storage.
This line was built in 1926 by Seaboard Air Line to bring passenger service to Homestead, Florida and connected with the Miami extension of the Overseas Railway parallel to US 1 in FL City. In 1929, it became a freight line and 2016 was the last time it saw activity; removal of the stored hoppers on the line.

Abandoned Railroad restored back to life - Розваги
This is an interesting turn of events! I hope something comes of this weed removal by CSX. Please keep us advised of any other signs of a re-awakening of the Homestead Subdidivsion.
You bet l will and thanks as always for the continued support, Thomas! I hope all is well with you.
Maybe those warehouses down in homestead are asking for service and those serice down at the train station should one day get amtrak passenger rail service again ?
@@railrol8282 all is well with me. Thank you for asking.
@railrol82 good morning railrol82 i know i haven't said anything to you i am sorry
Especially you can see that the relay cases lites on still burning on meaning that railroad crossing lites still active
Hopefully service will be restored. America needs more railroads not less.
Hopefully the county can buy it cheap and actually expand the Metrorail
@@Distress. yeah
I think this is going to be revived. The stop sign has been taken down, and you can see the tracks all the way to the horizon, where you could not before. Keep us posted Roly and have a nice day
Possible good news, Roly-i just did some rattling around online, and it seems like Miami-Dade and CSX are starting talks about turning that line into a commuter rail line! I know it’s not the same as the origin purpose, but at least that line would be _alive_ again! Keep your fingers crossed, and look up the info online-i can’t provide the links, but they’re out there! 🤞🏻
I’ve said in the past that the Brightline project should be extended south to Homestead-it never made sense that the project stopped at downtown Miami. (I even thought it could go to the Homestead-Miami Speedway until I saw that no rail line is close enough.).
The weeds were cleared all the way down to the wye. Lots of work done in Homestead proper. Looks like ABC Supply will be their main customer there. Also, the Homestead Station appears to have been restored. I've been taking videos of the area, but I have been hampered by harsh weather and a bad back. They are not as informative as your videos, but I'm trying.
You're thinking CSX is looking to serve ABC? That would be exciting.
@@TolgaEastCoast I went exploring today. I am expediting this video. Give me a couple of hours.
How far south from m this crossing is the ABC Supply?
Keeping my fingers crossed
Awesome video, hope the tracks are used again.
As we said before CSX had to be holding on to this line for some reason. Of course we will see. Roly will keep us informed.
It's a great day when they re-open a line especially after it's been slated for A&D. Unfortunately I think you've gotten your hopes up for nothing. The blue emergency contact signs are there for compliance and the Weed sprayer had to remove the stop sign so they could get down the tracks. Now why they weed sprayed is not clear but if I were to guess it's so that heavy equipment could get down the ROW to begin dismantling the line. Keep us posted if they do any kind of rehab though!
You ask if this is a reason for optimism. I have two thoughts: On the positive side, you can bet CSXT won't spend one dime maintaining an out-of-service track which has no future. On the negative side, If the line is going to be scrapped the first thing the scrapper has to do is clear the brush so they can get down to the track. I hope it's the former and not the latter.
You bring up some very interesting perspectives. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
I hope for the best for this track
You and me both. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
That's some serious weed kill. Hopefully some train action coming.
This is related to CSX being open to allow Tri Rail to use this subdivision to expand to Homestead.
That idea got shot down many years ago, but it could be a possibility. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
Thanks, Rolly!
Is the Gold Coast Railroad museum before the abandoned section or after?
I think it is a good sign that they are maintaining the right of way
Thank You for Sharing!!!
Before and thanks as always for the support of my channel!
Looks like the whole ROW has been Roundupped. Hope to see it back!
On April 23, 2023 there was an article "Miami exploring effort to expand commuter rail service" that says Miami is in negotiations with CSX to rent the tracks for passenger service. and on April 25, 2023 another article "More CSX freight trains seen as route to add passenger rail too". Both of these talk about reactivation of the Homestead extension branch. It is all up to what CSX want s to charge for rail rental. Here is what is funny, two weeks age CSX replaced/ upgraded all the crossings from 137th ave to 320th street in Homestead and also the tracks have been cleared all the way past the homestead "Wye". If there were truly abandoned why all of a sudden are they upgrading?
You bring up some interesting points and only time will tell. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
It wouldn't be abandonment, just simply a line that's dormant.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll bring those tracks back to life.
That's a decent sign something positive might happen. Of course, if it goes back in service, they still have a lot of work to do.
Wow Mindblowing CSX came through here and Clean Out the Weeds just so we can see the Tracks..... Keep us Updated in another Video if they Resurrect the Line again!
I am an eternal optimist! Thank you very much Railrol for bringing this wonderful gift of encouragement! That said, my gut feeling is that maybe some one other than CSX is doing this. How can CSX be doing this and yet be abandoning the entire west end of the ex Baltimore and Ohio main line to Saint Louis? Diamonds across other lines have been removed but mercifully the line isn’t ripped up yet.
If You Can Can You Do Railroad In Forest Grove, Oregon?
That's so awesome
There could always be a new customer such as propane or lumber or aggregate. Looks like 90 Lb rail.
CSX would go through all that trouble for 1 customer? Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
I read an article from July that CSX and MD are in negotiation to use the line for trirail. Theyre doing a study right now
Looks promising!!!
I'm standing on the tracks as I speak by my father in laws house, and the entire way from Krome down has had all the shrubbery removed. So something has to be going on. My father in law hasn't heard anything but he did see that they were clearing the tracks!! We'll see!!
Just after you made that last video where you were at that crossing, I went to that crossing after Ian struck and I did film that crossing
Good stuff! Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
@@railrol82 i still posted it and I did mention that the lights folded like that are like a drone
I cant wait to see how that turns out.✌🏼
Amazing video😁
This is very interesting! I hope they bring that back to life.
Funny how they have emergency contact information when there are no gates and the lights are facing up. 😃
Well sir, this does seem very positive and they have done a great job of weed control. Now this certainly seems like a positive sign, however, sadly that is not necessarily the case. One can only imagine how difficult it would be to dismantle a railroad with a great deal of plant life growing, therefore, there are times when plant life is removed and weedkiller used to clear the track to make the dismantling easier. One hopes that this is not the case here, but it certainly is something to consider. Thank you for all your great reporting, railroad archeology is certainly a most interesting subject.
something must be going hope they will start using this section again
Need to convert to light rail, electrified low/mid speed people movers. Relieve traffic congestion out of south dade. Should have done that with the busway
I know like where I'm at there are tracks that lead to a nuclear plant that have been marked with a stop sign in the middle of the track. But it still considered active
really hope this rail line is used again 🛤👍
The SXH may live again. In 2026 it will become 100 years old. I named my channel after the Diamond Oleander that used to be on the line, it was taken out in 2009.
Hope this means trains will be running on this line again
Those tracks need TLC.
Yes they do. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!
How far south from this crossing are the tracks intact-or, how far south does the line go before the rails are pulled up or the right of way no longer exists?
Nice Video
🥀🌴🇮🇳🥀🌴
They probably sprayed the weeds ready to run a rail recovery train! The rail recovery train wedges the rail ties off the rail as it goes, then winches the rails up onto the rain. They are definitely the last train on a line!
The stop sign was removed to get the spray rig in. No activation. Just like a
dog marking it territory. No revenue no future use.
Only time will tell.
maybe tri-rail
Yes.
One could only hope!
is there some possible businesses down that way, or are the clearing the right away to remove the tracks?
I had the same thought (clearing weeds to remove tracks). I hope we're both wrong.......... I'd love to see it go active again.
The rails and tracks will still need to be replaced for compliance for future trains. Read from past comments that during the final days of service trains ran slow on this line.
They would need to do a major track rehabilitation project on these tracks, as the older sections of track has been there since the Seaboard days. The older track sections appears to have 75 Pound rail, definitely from the Seaboard days!@@csxtommy6562
Next stop Krome Ave😊
There's i definitely a possible chance that the railroad in this video is going to get revived because i know theres people out there that removes signs when not supposed to because that is what i first thought about when you said that the sign was removed but then when you said that CSX did that, that is probably going to get revived because on the other side of the crossing doesn't have a sign of weeds and tall grass it looks new so those people on that road is gonna have to stop again if it does come back to life and hey how come you guys are getting rain send the rain here to central texas
Unless they're gonna rip up the track, hmmm? Maybe?
Hopefully CSX is not getting ready for the rail train. It would be great if it’s for a new customer.
you mean csx may use the line why you see stuff chnageng
That's going to be a Brightline express track to the Taj Mahal recording studio and 7-11
It would be nice if the Homestead Subdivision would see freight traffic again, through freights and locals!🛤🚂👍
They could have sprayed in order to have it removed
