How to fix a rusty dishwasher rack - silicone caps for an easy DIY repair!

We've had our bosch dishwasher for something like 10 years and use it pretty much daily. The wire rack has started to wear down and rust in a lot of places, and that's actually been marking the plates and dishes! I'm not 100% sure how to get the marks off.. so if you have suggestions, please let me know in the comments.
The silicone caps I found on Amazon look like they'll do a good job of protecting the crockery. They can be cut to length, but in general you'll probably want to put the whole thing on as-is. You can slice them length-ways for holes in the basket that aren't on the tips of the rack.
They come in packs of 100 or 150.. I kind of wish I'd counted what I needed more carefully, since I've got loads left over :D For 150 they're about £12 from Amazon right now; amzn.to/2U8b6Gk - they're listed as ORIGINAL Silicone Dishwasher Rack Caps from a company called Smiths.

citric acid (coffee machine descaler) OR vinegar OR lemon juice, will tend to dissolve rust stains on sinks and bowls.

Thanks; the silicone caps will help prevent them in the first place, but that's a really good tip.
