before posting this DIY DRL video took my car in for oil change and they changed the high beam bulb thinking that was the issue, wrong, so they replaced the bulb that was perfectly fine.
Thanks very much! This is extremely helpful and saves about $60 for the module! If they would have made the solder pads just a bit bigger, then when they do the solder bath more solder would have been sucked up and this problem probably wouldn't have happened :)

Wow thanks for this video... My symptoms were that my high beams sometimes wouldn't come on. But sometimes only the left one would go out with no blue high beam indicator on the dash. Pulled the module - I didn't have straight flux, but I had flux core solder - so I melted each pin and added flux core solder to each. Took all of maybe 15 min to pull, fix and replace. Seems to have completely fixed this issue.
THANKS!!! 2003 Honda civic Put new headlamps in because pass side high beam wouldn't come on. After replacing lamps didn't change anything . Next day only the high beam on driver's side would come on. This also cured the DRL problem

Thanks to your video, yesterday my son and I fixed this exactly problem in his 2001 civic LX. Immediately after having the right high-beam working (typical Honda drl board problem), and the DRL light gone, the alternator bearing started growling: coincidence? Maybe... :)
DRL module reduces voltage to High Beam bulbs, repairing the module doesn't draw much power and the module is fused preventing short circuits... test power load by starting vehicle with DRL Module unplugged... just bad luck your alternator complained, battery was probably low.

Solder Joint Failure is usually caused by non-leaded solder applied to contaminated (unclean) contact wire/lead/post. The Relay posts were dirty when attached to board or became hot over years or vibrations weakened the joint or all of the above. Reflowing the joints and applying fresh solder always works.

Are the headlight daytime running lights the only lights considered to be daytime running lights on a 2004 civic DX. Can the headlights still work if the headlight daytime running light don't work. If someone destroys their DRL module by soldering will the regular headlights,brake lights still work?
low power solder iron is fine - video shows Ungar 40 watt tip. The key is the flux paste which cleans and helps melt solder faster. Use any solder wire size, most repairs only require re-melting/flowing the onboard solder joints.
verify the Day Time Running headlights are actually OFF. If headlights are all OFF clean the connector ends of lint/dust with toothbrush. Carefully re-check all DRL module components for burnt/blown units or detached wires and cracks, reheat all connections using tiny amount of flux. If headlights are ON and DRL indicator is lit check the emergency hand brake is disengaged fully.
2007 Honda CRV DRL module is in the same position under the driver side dash closer to the door. The module is same grey colour and shape and hangs high up under dash. Must get on your back to reach it. Some US cars don't have these modules installed.
I'm guessing you wouldn't know where that is? I look anywhere I could find online and there was nothing about the module, the dealer doesn't even know so I'm assuming it's a relay thingy. Idk what it's called

DRL module location for 2001 - 2005 Honda Civic and 2001 - 2006 Acura is on driver side high under dash (higher than steering column) between door and brake pedal. All you can see is the wire harness block hanging down, best to see module from gas pedal up across towards door. The DRL module grey plastic box is mounted to a slide tab but can be very tight to remove and remount, in my video disconnecting the wire harness block and prying open the circuit board was easier for Honda.

The reason I asked was not to repair the cold joints to the relays on the module, but to find out whether LED High Beams would work or could be made to work in DRL mode on my 2004 Civic in conjunction with LED Headlights and your answer seems to confirm that they cannot. It turns out that from the 2006 model year, you can acquire plug-in LED driver modules that will make the High Beam LEDs work as a DRL using PWM - the trick is that they require 12V to exist and be available for the LED bulb to work, essentially by increasing the frequency so that the LEDs won't flash or strobe. OTOH, these module simply don't work if the DRL puts high beams in series or feeds low voltage to the headlight using resistors for DRL use, like the older generation DRL seems to operate at. if I could secure a 7th gen DRL module schematic, I could probably figure out a modification that would allow use of a PWM module with the high beams to light them up at reduced intensity for DRL use, but my hunt for a schematic has been unsuccessful (If you had any idea where to look for that schematic, I'd appreciate a tip!) In the meantime, I've devised a klutz that may well in the end be the only practical solution: to forgo the high beams for DRL and use the position/turn bulbs instead, replacing them with high power LED switchbacks, that would be powered by a relay controlled by the DRL indicator circuit: In essence, the DRL fault indicator circuit would be used to actuate a relay that would power the front white LEDs of the turn signal/position switchbacks replacing the original dual filament amber bulb.
My only problem now is to find a Switchback LED that has the proper configuration for the existing reflector, sufficient intensity for DRL use and the reliability and proper cooling required for an LED that will be on at all times...
@@easydiyrepair5657 I've decided not to install anything that would require unsealing the housing - I've done it once (in an oven) and almost destroyed it, so I'm not too keen trying again! The DRL switchback modification is quite simple in comparison, the 2004 Civic uses an 1057 bulb as a park/direction bulb so that should be no problem. You'd have to cut off the existing park wire and power the white LED directly from a relay powered up by the DRL dash light circuit coming out of the DRL relay. If the schematic I managed to find is the correct one, it's connection 9 on the DRL module and K7 of the fuse/relay box nearby. Cutting the existing white/blue wire on DRL 9 and yellow on K7 would disconnect the DRL dash light so it wouldn't be bother you anymore. I'll get to it when the weather gets better, winter's been brutal here in the Great White North (I don't have a garage).
When the DRL indicator light appears park the vehicle and with the car still running go outside and confirm both high beams lights are on. If both are on check vehicle manual and Parking Brake release.
The circuit is protected by a fuse to prevent shorts but will use power if key is turned 1 or 2 clicks. The headlight bulbs would use more power unless relays shorted out blowing the fuse. On rare occasions one or more weak solder joints can spark and heat up discoloring the circuit board. I doubt it would drain battery with vehicle turned off. Budget low amp batteries only last 4 years then require replacement, always have your battery 'load-tested' every 4 years.
My gfs 04 civic was exactly as you're describing until it completely failed and headlights wouldn't work. This is what it was. Once I resolder the relays everything worked again and the DRL light was gone.

Usually DRL module is mounted high under dash, move to brake peddle and look straight up for grey plastic box. Check near center console under and behind radio, also under passenger side dash and under hood near fuse box, but its almost always under driver side dash.

I also had the noise. Turning on the regular headlight stopped the noise. Relays had numerous solder cracks. 20 minute fix!

this DRL Module repair is so common I don't even test them after reflowing solder connections, just hand back to vehicle owners for reinstall.

I did everything but my DRL still pops up, although i mightve put some mixed some leaded solder in, could that be the issue?

Any vehicle any year with Daytime Running Light module acting up can be fixed the same way = resolder joints.
Where can I find the DRL relay module on a 2007 Honda CRV? I had no luck locating it based on videos I saw for the 2005 Honda CRV.

The DRL Module should be the same but in another location. The repair is always the solder joints on the big relays.

Cant find my own circuit board. 2007 honda Civic
