This is true. However Thor has just started his peaking process. Same with John Haack. John's latest deadlift was like 330 kg but that obviously isn't going to be his best
Thor has pulled 501 in a suit and figure 8 straps (WR) He's pulled 474 in comp and 480 in training raw on an Elephant Bar (Both WR's) He's pulled 458 raw on a standard bar (12 kg under WR), however most likely could have done a little bit more. He also intended to break the record but decided not to when Rogue revealed there wouldn't be a prize. King of the Deadlift for sure now all he needs to do is beat Benedikt Magnusson's strapless 461 (if it was real) and Temur Sakhadze's strapless 411 on a stiff bar (Jesus Olivares' 431 in training), and and Konstantin Konstantinov's 426 strapless, raw, and beltless. Maybe go after the Hummer Tire, 13 inch, 18 inch, axle, behind back, jefferson, 21 inch/viking, Single Leg, Trap Bar, Deficit, Ukrainian, Single Arm, Sumo, and Zercher records to establish the title.
Also I know strapless deadlifts are limited by grip strength, so that arguably isn't a demonstration of deadlift prowess. Would be cool though. I know Jamal Browner was teaching him hook grip right before his pec tear, but that might be considered "cheating" by purists.
@joemama226 hook grip isn't cheating, basically not any easier than alternate, just fit better for sumo and it's safer in terms of avoiding bicep tendon rupture.
The thing is, he makes 100 pounds and 1000 pounds looks the same unlike those other lifters who yank their warm ups with speed He can probably pull close to 500kg rn but it just doesnt look like it because he dont show off speed like others
@@Xplora213 Yes, but many of those same guys don't control the weight. They lose positioning and end up hitching the bar up even on submaximal sets. You NEVER see this from Thor.
Some days i really struggle Deadlift and some days that same weight feels like a warmup. But remember, even when it gets tought never switch to sumo and stick to normal deadlifts at all times. Stay hard!
Same here, sometimes I barely get 2 reps with a weight I've done for 5-6, and sometimes I just destroy it. Why the hate on sumo tho xd, whether you are better at pulling sumo or conventional literally just depends on your body type, sumo is not objectively better/easier.
Same for me it seems I can get into the right position better somedays than others. Even if I stretch somedays I’m just not getting in the right spot no matter what and the weight just sits there

Get better at set up and warm up until you can get into position. Get MUCH better at setup. Deadlift hurts more than everything else for bad setup, it’s concentric only, can’t make adjustments before the peak contraction if you don’t get yourself ready beforehand.
Can't wait until Hafthors next video to see the 1000+
That wasn't his top set on the day either. It was 460kg
Just puts into perspective how strong John hack is!

BS! John has never pulled 420 as the last warmup before the final lift
@@jamesmaitlandstewart08that’s not the point he’s making, John is not a big man relatively speaking, so to lift that sort of weight is mind boggling

I just confirmed with Nirmal, the stiff bar record is 417.5 by Mikhail Koklyaev
Strapless Stiff Bar record is 435 by dave Richardson in a full meet. That guy has freakish strength and crazy leverages as well

How is bro bringing magnussons deadlift into question rn 😂 is it real? Bruh cmon now that is the gold standard of raw conventional deadlift

If you look at the 420 warmup pull for the 501, it was a lot faster than this tbh
@@iceboxchamberlain1Yes, that's because he was peaked.
@@iceboxchamberlain1That's because he was peaked for that.
You want the bar to move faster if you can. 1.2s at max effort is harder than 0.9s. Control the weight, sure. But don’t waste energy.

In a couple years he'll do 505 for warmup.
Thor made his 420kg warm-up look like a 60kg warm-up
I thought he said for this week he was “only” topping at 420 and then next week hitting 460 target top set? Like a “rest week”.
2 weeks ago was 440. 1 week ago was a light week. This week (yesterday) is 460
Thor could probably walk up to a 1000 pound bar any day of the week and pull it with ease
