That brings me back to what we know. The water is backing up at the basement shower drain, which we believe is the last drain before the house-to-street line. Our only clean out access we have is above that. No house in our area has a clean-out access outside. And a pipe snake doesn't move through pipes as well as you think. It's more likely to get stuck and contribute to the existing clog.
Thank you for this awesome video and explanation 🤙🏽 Its helping me to get a mental picture of what may be going on behind the walls and finding a starting point for trouble shooting 💫
Have been looking for this type of video dealing with a sluggish main line for a few weeks now. House is about 85 years old, so no clean-outs and have had to figure out so much on my own. Even had a plumber come to scope it all out, but a Y-connection in the main line caused an issue. Had an issue about 7 years ago, but roots were not the problem.
it seems like the basement is getting wet around the sewer clean out , but the builder is saying there is not leak around that area , its causing mold . How do we look for leaks and direct builder to look into for a house in first year warranty ?
So I have a puzzling question. I have a washing machine that keeps backing up into the sink and then filling the washing machine drain simultaneously. Well when I cut off the washing machine, the sink and the washing machine drains? I’ve checked the stack with a camera and I don’t see where the sink connects to the washing machine but when I snaked it, the snake ended up into the sink pipes? Both stacks are vented separately too? What would cause the washing machine to back up into the sink but then both drain fine when water is not emptying from the washing machine?
@@gregvancom I thought that but the cleanout is 2”. I think I figured it out though. Seems we have a broken snake at the bottom of the drain but for some odd reason the drain is a 90? I’m just gonna have to drain the water to get a better idea of what the issue is.
What if everything is draining fine, but when the washing machine/ dishwasher/ toilet is flushed it’s making the bathtub and bathroom sink make a gurgling noise?
I can use my toilet and shower but not sink which is between these two. Im in a slab house. Plumber ran auger and punched hole in sink pipe that ran into pipe tub tuns into. House built in the 60's.
my toilet and bath drain fine ,my sink is in the middle of the toilet and bath and it empties into my bath ,i had a plumber tell me i have not got an up pipe ? not sure what that is but i know there is always water just below the plug hole in both sink and bath
@@gregvancom thanks for reply ,i have been putting boiling water down the sink and bath hole to try and unblock anything down there but it still comes up into the bath when i fill sink up then take the plug out ,the smell is really horrible too ,any advice would be fab
5:23 my laundry drain is backing up. There is a sink right next to it that will back up when laundry is done so I assume they share a drain. Ran a snake and got about 30 feet in and it just stopped. Either hit a blockage of some Sort or a bend I can’t get past. Stuck on what to do. Figure a bladder won’t work cause there has to be a T or something in that 30 feet. Tried Drayno and it didn’t help. Guess I’m calling a plumber
@@Onelove313 thought so. I wound up getting all 50 feet of the snake in. Felt a clock pop and everything was going well. Couple days ago it started backing up again. Probably calling a Plummer so they can feed in a camera and check for roots
If I use the kitchen sink or laundry there is no buildup in the kitchen laundry area but the guess bath room toilet and tub will fill up and the bottom of the toilet will leak
@@Onelove313 there ended up being roots in the main about 75 feet down the line. We had to have someone come in and clean them out. Leaking from the bottom of the toilet meant that we had to replace the wax ring under the toilet.
@@bd19831 so I didn't do the job because it wasn't my house. I was told that the sink drain had two pipes going out to drain, which were clogged and the guy got an auger down there. Apparently the homeowner was slacking on preventive maintenance
Legitimately the most helpful video I have ever watched. Thank you for this.
You are so welcome!

What if my water softener regen is causing flooding at my waste water line?

Building codes require 2 inch drain pipes, it sounds like you might have 1.5 inch drain pipes.

Try the vent on the roof. Usually that’s air in your sewer system that can’t escape
All new plumbing up to original drain line accept just the sink drain after p trap doesnt flow. Toilet is fine and tub is fine.

You could have a build up inside the pipes somewhere like a partial clog. I don't know what an up pipe is.
