    wow!!!, thank you very much!! I been looking a video to show me how to do it but with elastic rather than cord, and that was a very nice calculation of the elastic.

    Would a 60% cotton, 40% polyester fabric be allright? Also, would it not be easier to sew the elastic on to the cover directly?

      Good questions. Polyester will burn under iron heat. Yes you can sew elastic to fabric. But if elastic will get bad it will be much harder to replace it.
