Paul Stanley said that 'Detroit rock city' was one the best songs he had ever written, released in 1976... it was overshadowed by the ballad 'Beth' that became a huge single that year. Stanley said the lyrics were a tribute to a Kiss fan in North Carolina, who was killed in a car accident on the way to a Kiss concert. Kiss wanted to immortalize Detroit in gratitude for embracing this band from New York City w/ 4 guys in makeup & costumes... Everybody thought Kiss were clowns, but they blew away audiences on tour and they were playing arenas in Detroit around 1975 and the Midwest, before they even had a hit record. Their big double-live album 'Alive!' was recorded in Detroit's Cobo Hall in '75, and that became their first major album... By 1977, the original Kiss was a global success and had become a pop culture phenomenon.

Hey Ginette, they were listening to the version on Double Platinum which is a remixed edited down song but always loved how the car crash lead straight into King Of The Nighttime World!

you should watch the 1999 movie "Detroit Rock City" where kids playing in a rock band are KISS fans and the movie shows their frustrations and adventures on their journey to make it to the concert. The movie is set around 1977 which makes it even more enjoyable to watch. and this song features in the movie, pretty sure KISS themselves are also in it from memory at the end. watching the movie might give you an idea of the hype and excitement around this band at the time.
Great timepiece movie! Growing up in this era, it captured everything perfectly. From the Rock vs. Disco animosity to the extreme ends you'd go to in order to see your favorite band. I think I need to watch it again!
Great reaction guys. Amber, you would love "BETH" written by Peter Chris, lead singer on the song too. It was the "B" side of this 45 record Detroit Rock City, and became their biggest hit reaching #7 on the Billboard chart in 1976, and won the Peoples Choice Award for "Favorite Song" in 1977. It also ranked #3 in VH1's 25 Greatest Power Ballads of all time. Check it out next!
Beth, Black Diamond, Hard Luck Woman, Strutter, Tears Are Fallin are all great tracks. Peter Criss (drummer) sings lead on the first three songs listed above.
Add “C’mon and Love Me”, “Deuce”, “100,000 Years”, “Cold Gin”, “Firehouse” and “Nothin’ to Lose” to that list!! I saw them at Nassau Coliseum on New Years Eve like 47 (OMG) years ago! Leslie West Band opened, then Blue Oyster Cult and then Kiss. Great show !!!! #kiss
KISS is my favorite band since i was 7 years old and i'm 49 now, they have so many songs you have to react to. 70's songs like Black Diamond, Cold Gin, 100 000 Years, Strutter, Parasite, Let Me Go Rock 'N' Roll, C'mon And Love Me, Rock Bottom, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, Love Gun, I Stole Your Love, Shock Me (Ace Frehley singing with a killer guitar solo), Hard Luck Woman, Sure Know Something. 80's songs, Shandi, A World Without Heroes, I Love It Loud, Creatures Of The Night, War Machine. And the non-makeup era has alot of good songs too, All Hell's Breakin' Losse, Heaven's On Fire, Thrills In The Night (one of my favorite KISS song ever), Tears Are Falling, Who Wants To Be Lonely, Crazy Crazy Nights, Reason To Live (beautiful power ballad), Hide Your Heart, Forever (great power ballad too), Unholy (heavy song with Gene singing), God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II, Domino, I Just Wanna, Everytime I Look At You. The comeback album they did in 1996 with the title track Psycho Circus, We Are One and the last two records, songs like Modern Day Delilah, Say Yeah and Freak.
Now you need to consider watching the movie Detroit Rock City for your movie reaction channel. The movie was made in 1999 when Kiss was on their reunion tour and started performing in make-up again. The movie takes place in the 70s and concerns four teenagers trying to get into the Kiss concert!!
The original album track has an 'opening' and an 'ending ' ( literally ) that this version edited out . Perhaps they did it to save space or perhaps due to the 'graphic' nature of the end to the story of this track . Either way - you should go directly to the album cut from Destroyer and listen to it again , just so you can experience this as it was originally presented .
I totally agree that listening to the “Destroyer” cut is a must. This cut is from the “Double Platinum” album, and, while still awesome, it’s subtly different. For those who rocked to the original “Destroyer” version first, those subtle differences were a bit of a shock to the system, but we quickly got used to it.
Back in the day my uncle would blast the original through his marshall stack and the neighbors would come out to see who crashed. " Oh its just Jimmy messing around again!!"
I was around 11 years old at a record store, just browsing through the record albums in the bins... and the cover of KISS ALIVE 2 caught my eye!!! Had to buy the album, took it home and cranked it up on our family stereo record player in the living room and from that moment on listening to their awesome music and looking at the pictures in the album (That inner sleeve live concert photo of KISS- fire shooting upwards-KISS dudes up high in the air on those risers OMGaaawwwd!), I became a KISS ARMY SOLDIER FOR LIFE!!!
That's about how old I was, when I first heard/bought KISS Alive II! They were my entry point to a lifetime of enjoying/appreciating a wide variety of music, both what came since, AND the music that preceded it!
Their live albums were the only true way to live the KISS experience With the fans yelling and them playing twice as hard as they would normally play, it was the best
You can't go wrong with KISS. They have decades of hits from the 70's, to the 2000's. I've seen them many times live, and they put on the greatest spectacle of a performance/stage show I've ever seen! 🔥⭐️👺👨🚀🐱🔥
No to take anything away from KISS, but Pink Floyd's Division Bell tour in the early was definitely the greatest spectacle in my experiences. If just speaking of hard rock bands, then I give KISS the crown.
I’m from the Detroit area and this song as well as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” (“just a city boy born and raised in south Detroit”) are staple core songs that we cling to in our town. Represent 313!!!!
What’s great about the album version is you get the whole story. It starts with the guy getting ready and getting into the car. And at the end, instead of just ending, you hear the crash. And that carries over into the next song King of the Nighttime World which is another great song.
My first concert without parents!!! Age 13... August 4th, 1979 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 Sorry you didn't listen to the full version, this one was a radio station version. Be sure to treat yourselves to the full version!!! Thanks for this and the four of you would make an awesome KISS unit for Halloween, Luca can be dressed up as a roadie or drum/guitar tech or maybe the pyrotechnics person!!!!
There is a great live performance of Kiss without their makeup called “I Still Love You” where Paul Stanley kind of shows everyone just how amazing of a singer he really is. Absolutely mind blowing performance.
Okay, I'm 60 and I can remember the day this album came out...I was in front of the store an hour before it opened. My girlfriend and I are in their TV movie "KISS and the Phantom of the Park" Those were the days! PEACE!!!!!
This is by far one of my favourite KISS songs... The fast-pace, the powerful vocals from Paul Stanley, the crazy guitars and drums... this must have been AWESOME to hear live!
This is actually a version of the song edited for time. The instrumental bridge is a few seconds longer, and who put this vid together left out a couple of perfectly timed cymbal crashes and another great guitar lick. Can I recommend the entire album Destroyer? It's kinda like KISS's Sgt. Pepper album.
The album version is arranged differently because the crash leads right into King of the Nighttime World, with no break between songs. I have SOOO many Kiss ‘albums’ from original vinyl, to cassettes, CD’s, bootlegs, compilations, etc… if I’m not mistaken this is the version from Double Platinum, they needed that abrupt ending since the car crash & KOTNTW weren’t part of Double Platinum. Now it’s also possible that this version is on Smashes Thrashes & Hits… but it’s definitely not the version from Destroyer. Im exhausted.
@@Willie_McBride Yeah, I miss the radio news announcer describing how "a Pontiac youth ... was catapulted through the windshield of his car," and then the sound of the guy getting into his car and blasting the live version of "Rock and Roll All Night" on his car stereo and singing along!
I am a 60 year old man who loved Kiss in 1976 when this came out. Your reaction brought back great memories. I just found your channel and love it. You both are so personable and great at breaking down the songs. Thanks again for the videos !
I have seen Kiss IN or NEAR Detroit at these venues ........Tiger Stadium...Cobo Hall....Pine Knob.....Pontiac Silverdome , Joe Louis Arena, and Windsor Ontario Canada Caesers Casino (twice) and Gene Simmons at the casino on his birthday and Paul as the Phantom at Pantages Theater in Toronto !!!....IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT LIVING NEAR DETROIT TO SEE KISS !!!!
I recommend "Lick it Up" for your next KISS song, as, when the video debuted on MTV on 9/18/83, it was the first time they had EVER appeared as a group without their makeup. The band has not played a single concert since then that didn't include the song..
Finally!!! Been waiting for this one (sent you the movie Detroit Rock City, might want to watch it now that you have a movie reaction channel). “Strutter” is another good one. Thanks for the great reactions today, and prayers to people of Texas 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
There is actually a movie called Detroit Rock City about a group of friends in Detroit trying to make it to the Kiss concert!! It's a hilarious movie!!
KISS Un-plugged: "I Still LOVE YOU" . This could be Paul Stanley's best vocal performance. No make-up. They just jam out and take you on a musical trip!
Heard my first Kiss song at 7 years old and yeah, it rocked! Dressed up like the "Star Child" for Halloween. These guys are arguably the first Jewish metal band...they had incredible and ridiculous shows and after parties. They couldn't quite evolve with the 80s, but kept rocking anyway. Chaim Witz and Stanley Eisen are the 2 most famous members. 🤘
When I saw the lineup of reactions for today, my first thought was, that this is my favorite trio that you r hit since I watched my first Rob Squad Reaction. I know everyone who commented on the ‘God Only Knows’ reaction mentioned Paul McCartney, and the fact that the song was used in the movie Love Actually; I Only Wanna Be With You is just pure classic. And I’m sure many commenters mentioned the cover by The Bay City Rollers, and the song was used way back when, as the theme song to the HBO series “Arliss” with Robert Wuhl. But finishing the trifecta off with Detroit Rock City?!? C’Mon now! EPIC! You need to realize that in the mid ‘70’s, KISS fans were often derided because the band wore garish costumes & makeup, and weren’t considered elite musicians, and were considered gimmicky. To have you two appreciate them, as well as every other genre of music, such a diverse variety and the pure joy you both exhibit when you lock onto an element in a song that emotes a specific reaction… I’m rambling, and feel like I lost what I was saying… but I’m sure you get it.
my go to KISS song is Black Diamond off the KISS Alive album if I had to recommend any KISS that would be it, or anything off that album in particular. I believe Paul says that album catches the spirit of Rock n Roll
I've seen them in concert 12 times over the years, make-up and non make-up eras, and it's always a blast. This song was the first time I had ever seen them at all, on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special in 1976. I'll never forget my grandfather saying, "What in the devil is that?!" 😄 Some other reaction suggestions for you two: 'I Still Love You', from MTV Unplugged, 1996 'Shout it Out Loud' (video), Tiger Stadium 1996 'I Love it Loud' (video) from 1982 'Turn on the Night' (video) 1987
WOW! Destroyer was my absolute JAAM in high school!! Saw them in Detroit January 1978 at the Olympic Arena. My ears were buzzing for 2 days after. Got to listen to GOD OF THUNDER. That is Gene's anthem!
You two are my new favorite vids to watch! I love the music and you are great! I have a suggestion for a song. It's a little tamer, but it's truly one of the best harmonies you'll ever hear. I promise. It's "Seven bridges road" by the Eagles. I'm 54 years old and that song still gives me chills when I hear it. Truly incredible.
"Detroit Rock City" was the B-side [I was wrong- it was actually the A-side as other commenters informed me. Sorry.] of the biggest Kiss Pop chart single "Beth" (#7 in 1976) and their only Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 (until 1990 when "Forever" hit #8). "Detroit Rock City" is given a separate title line on the Billboard chart book listing as the 7th charting Kiss single but no chart position is listed.
Actually, Beth was the b-side of Detroit Rock City, but a few DJs tried playing it and it started getting more requests to play it than Detroit Rock City. It was a Peter Criss solo song as no other members of the band played on it. ua-cam.com/video/snVrhqhPajE/v-deo.html
You two and Tidal are my locked on ones. I'm 62 years old and you both react just like my friends and I did decades ago. Rock on you two. Love you and family
When you react to any KISS song the live version is a MUST. There are great live versions of this song on YT. Kiss was primarily known for their live shows. The studio only version doesn’t tell half the story.
Great video on my birthday, 59 years old from North Dakota, I love watching you relive the love of this good music as I lived it when it originally came out. God Bless you and your family!
Live performances of KISS are a must !! Visuals are half the experience and make sure its the original members. Try Love Gun from Brooklyn Bridge \m/ or if you want to see them in their prime check out Let Me go Rock and Roll for Cobo Hall 1976 !
I’ve been a KISS fan since 1978, one of my much older cousins gave me all of his KISS collection before he left for the Army… Belt buckle, necklace, posters, and of course all of the albums… I’ve expanded the collection a lot since then.
I am a lifelong resident of the metropolitan Detroit area. KISS was the first band I ever got heavily into, and my first two concerts were KISS concerts (I was 14 for the first one!). You have NO IDEA how hyped we get when they play this song! My parents actually took me to the concerts (along with a few of my friends)...my stepfather actually made his way down to the front of the stage to snap a couple photos of Gene Simmons for me. Shout out to everyone that was at the January 20th (Paul Stanley's birthday) show at Olympia Stadium!! Many years later, the band held a promotional meet and greet at a smaller theatre...it seemed like every musician I knew from the local Detroit music scene was there, and I was surprised to learn that nearly all of us had been at either the January 20th show or the second of the two shows they played that year...I'm talking like 50 or more of us! Let me add a little more context to the comments that others have already shared...KISS released their first three studio albums from 1973 to 1975. They built up a VERY loyal cult following in Michigan, and a few other places (but especially in Michigan), but their album sales were very low. They decided to go for broke and record a live album in Detroit...it was called KISS Alive, and it was the album that broke them out everywhere. "Detroit Rock City" was released on their fifth album, "Destroyer," and it was meant to be (in part) the band's way of paying tribute to the fans that "got them" before anyone else...even their hometown fans in New York City. The version you listened to is slightly edited, and features an ending that's different than the original (the original version ends in a car crash, and leads into the next song on the album). God bless!!
Awesome to see that you've started playing bass Jay! I've been playing for around a couple of years and KISS songs are always heaps of fun to play. This one is one of their hardest!
A rotten shame you couldn't get a video of them performing this live. From 1977 to now this song has often been their concert opener. The video that is showing is very nice though.😮
I'm telling you... that guitar solo is AWESOME in concert!!! I've been to three Kiss concerts. Gene & I share birthdays. I've been a Kiss fan since early 70's. Kiss Army!!
The Alive albums were always my favorite. Kiss Alive(I) is still one of my fave of all time. My mom and dad bought the vinyl for me for Christmas and when I opened it, Mom was shocked at the liner photos. Dad had to convince her to let me keep it. Alive II has great versions of Detroit Rock City, Beth and Love Gun. I saw the original lineup live in 1977 at 14 years old. AC DC opened. Still the best show of my life.
I've seen KISS three times, the first time I knew every song they played by heart. What a show. The second time I was in the crowd about 20 feet from center stage when Gean Simons broke into his bass solo..... Imagine if you can being that close, Gean in full demon outfit playing the hell out of a double headed axe bass guitar, breathing fire and spitting blood...... I was blown away. React to the live version of "God Of Thunder" and you'll get the idea. I'm still amazed when I watch the video so many years later. 🙂
Detroit Rock City is also a movie about some teen boys trying to sneak past crazy mom (Lin Shaye) to a Kiss concert. Really funny and nostalgic for this 70's kid.
If you look into the KISS history, you will find they were a huge deal in Detroit in the 70s. It started with a high school football team who listened to kiss to motivate before the games. They had a big deal where KISS came there and there was a huge parade and all the guys from the team were wearing the KISS makeup...
That did happen, but not in Detroit. That happened in Cadillac MI., a small town in the north western lower peninsula, about 200 miles from Detroit. To this day, there is a KISS statue in the town square!
I'll be completely honest- today, I'm 56 years old and listening to this brings up my 13 year old self. People today just don't understand the power of KISS back in the 70's. Back then, we either had disco or metal like Black Sabbath. The show, the pyrotechnics and flair that was KISS dominated the scene in the 70's and early 80's. KISS was everything back then. Thank you for shining a light a great era in rock and roll!!
I’m 53 and it brings out the 6 year old me. Destroyer was the first album of real music I ever owned. Then had to get Alive II and that really made me a fan.
Forgot to add that I finally got to see them in 96 on the reunion tour with Peter and Ace in full makeup. I’ve seen them 3 times since then and introduced all of my kids to them. Took my oldest to see them in 03 on her 15th BDay, and she has seen them at least twice on the End Of The Road Tour. The youngest we took to see them on her 13th BDay in ‘16 for her very first concert ever, and then apologized afterwards for ruining all other concerts for her. She also went with us to see them in Indy on the End Of The Road Tour. My son went with us in’19. And my step-son went to see them in Chicago last year with his Dad. My son and the youngest step-daughter are both going with us to see them in 2 weeks in Indy again for the fifth to last show ever.
This is one of those songs where the only thing better than blasting it in the car as you're flying down the road is being in a stadium full of fans as they play it live. Keep on rocking, folks - keep on ricking!
My wife and I got to have breakfast next to Gene and his wife at LAX one morning. Watching his reactions with young fans will forever earn my respect for him.
It is very remarkable, cool, to get catched by Peter`s drumming drive here. This was the opening song for those "Destroyer" live tours around US and World Wide. Yes, indeed, there is a Hard debate in the percussion community, about if Criss was or not a good sticks man. But listening the snare attack following guitar and bass intro riffs, there is no doubt that the Cat had a lot of soul, power and flash to make this particular song ran perfectly. In a 1998 February Modern Drummer magazine issue, Peter was the cover artist article, and he said that this is one of the songs he would audition to any one to want jump on a Kiss drums throne, and by the way, this sacred drummer put on the map the Pearl drums label into the american Rock scene.
KISS was my first concert. I saw them in July 1979 at the Omni in Atlanta and I was 4 years old! Check out the song "Sure know something" it has a cool video too.
I’ve seen many Kiss shows in the 70’s undoubtedly the best live show! I saw them at Madison square garden the crowd energized the band as much as they energized the crowd.
Kiss was my first concert in 1979. I was in 8th grade and my older sister who had already graduated high school took me and two of my friends. It was amazing!!!
I bought the album, Destroyer, back in the day. The track Detroit Rock City opened with a radio broadcast describing a car accident. Then a car door opens, the car radio is playing KISS songs then transitions to the song Detroit Rock City. The engine of a muscle car is heard during the song from time to time. The song ends with a Car Crash. Destroyer was their 4th Album. It was their first album to break into the US Top 20🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘😎.
It's one thing to hear kiss through your headphones but seeing them in concert is just awesome.i loved seeing them.plus big shout out to you guys for all the reactions.
If you guys like this, you're gonna love the movie Detroit Rock City. It's about a bunch of kids in the Seventies trying to get to the historic KISS concert in Detroit. The KISS actually produced the movie. Maybe you can even do a reaction to it?
In Junior High School, 7th grade, late 1970s, we had a pinball machine and a jukebox in the boys locker room. This song was played EVERY day in gym class!
I have seen KISS several times over the years and they used this song to start the concert most of the time ... Announcer: "You Wanted the Best, You Got the Best, The Hottest Band In the World ... KISS" then right into the opening guitar riff... Doesn't get any better than that!
I’ve seen KISS live so many times, I’ve lost count! Their concerts are one heck of a show from start to finish….last time I saw them was in 2019. Damn awesome concert

Yes--you could hear the car effects in the beginning, and the crash at the end. I'm surprised it was edited out, that's part of the song impact.
Gene does the news commitary on the original on album. I totally loved his voice on it. I freaked out when I learned this.
Back in the day my uncle would blast the original through his marshall stack and the neighbors would come out to see who crashed. " Oh its just Jimmy messing around again!!"
I noticed that the opening/ending parts are missing when the song plays on XM Classic Rewind as well. Kinda disappointing.
Yelp KISS ARMY!
Yeah......my mom let me pick out any record I wanted for my birthday, KISS ALIVE 2 it was!!!!
Same thing happened to me!
That's about how old I was, when I first heard/bought KISS Alive II! They were my entry point to a lifetime of enjoying/appreciating a wide variety of music, both what came since, AND the music that preceded it!
Their live albums were the only true way to live the KISS experience
With the fans yelling and them playing twice as hard as they would normally play, it was the best
KISS is a great band. Consider one of their lesser known songs. Sure Know Something is a great song. Didn't get the air time it deserved.
It is a great song. I always liked it better than I Was Made For Lovin You on that album.
Hell yes!! One of my absolute favourites!!
If you love Peter Criss you have to listen to him on lead vocals with "Beth" and "Hard Luck Woman"
I love the song Beth , so different from most of their songs
Yes, I also love Peter Criss!
I know, Amber was talking about her love for Peter and my thought was "and she hasn't even heard him sing yet." :)
@@raystone3172, hooligan is another fave but I was giving them the big hits to start with! Great suggestions and thanks for the reply.
Hard Luck Woman is a good one...
What’s great about the album version is you get the whole story. It starts with the guy getting ready and getting into the car. And at the end, instead of just ending, you hear the crash. And that carries over into the next song King of the Nighttime World which is another great song.
It was an age of theme albums, most all of them are not fully realized unless you hear it front to back. And what they call, “punch”, we call slam!
My first concert without parents!!! Age 13... August 4th, 1979 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Sorry you didn't listen to the full version, this one was a radio station version.
Oh yeah he's got such an amazing voice
Yep. It's the acoustic version, from MTV Unplugged.
One of the most epic songs of the 70s. Such a kick ass song. Destroyer is a killer record
Alive!, Destroyer, and Rocjk & Roll Over still hold up!
Very underrated in terms of his vocals there. Absolutely stunning how he hits those high notes and holds them
Saw KISS in 1978 at the Spectrum. Best stage show ever. There was a crush at the door and a stranger put me up on his shoulders. Thanks dude!
@ronforeman you do know that both the announcer on the radio AND the dude in the car are Gene, right?
@@chrisweppler1977 Yep!
There is such a KISS rabbit hole you can go down- cant wait for you to do more! This song is what they opened with live and it’s insane!!
My favorite band! KISS ARMY!
I am a 60 year old man who loved Kiss in 1976 when this came out. Your reaction brought back great memories. I just found your channel and love it. You both are so personable and great at breaking down the songs. Thanks again for the videos !
Shout it out loud is a classic that features both Paul and Gene on vocals
I have seen Kiss IN or NEAR Detroit at these venues ........Tiger Stadium...Cobo Hall....Pine Knob.....Pontiac Silverdome , Joe Louis Arena, and Windsor Ontario Canada Caesers Casino (twice) and Gene Simmons at the casino on his birthday and Paul as the Phantom at Pantages Theater in Toronto !!!....IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT LIVING NEAR DETROIT TO SEE KISS !!!!
Leave am message on TG 👆, FOR SUGGESTIONS AND INTERACTIONS. THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS 💫,..
I recommend "Lick it Up" for your next KISS song, as, when the video debuted on MTV on 9/18/83, it was the first time they had EVER appeared as a group without their makeup. The band has not played a single concert since then that didn't include the song..
It's ok, but their 80s stuff could never compare to their 70s stuff
@@dawngipe6324 Very true, but I don't believe R&A have ever seen KISS without their makeup...
We saw the original version of KISS with the makeup. Felt the heat of the pyro from our seats. They put on a killer show.
Finally!!! Been waiting for this one (sent you the movie Detroit Rock City, might want to watch it now that you have a movie reaction channel). “Strutter” is another good one. Thanks for the great reactions today, and prayers to people of Texas 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for mentioning Texas it's unbearable 🙏
@@deelindastimac7359 💔💔💔
There is actually a movie called Detroit Rock City about a group of friends in Detroit trying to make it to the Kiss concert!! It's a hilarious movie!!
KISS Un-plugged: "I Still LOVE YOU" . This could be Paul Stanley's best vocal performance. No make-up. They just jam out and take you on a musical trip!
A definite must
Kiss Unplugged is a great video and Album!
Live live live. You guys will be amazed to the next level.
I would take issue with that. IMO, "Forever" is one of their best songs released in the 90s. "Reason to Live" isn't bad either.
I don't think Ace and Peter are Jewish but, yeah, I get your point.
When I saw the lineup of reactions for today, my first thought was, that this is my favorite trio that you r hit since I watched my first Rob Squad Reaction. I know everyone who commented on the ‘God Only Knows’ reaction mentioned Paul McCartney, and the fact that the song was used in the movie Love Actually;
I Only Wanna Be With You is just pure classic.
Kiss was pure entertainment! For awhile, they sold out everywhere they went, and gave fans a show every time!
my go to KISS song is Black Diamond off the KISS Alive album
if I had to recommend any KISS that would be it, or anything off that album in particular. I believe Paul says that album catches the spirit of Rock n Roll
I've seen them in concert 12 times over the years, make-up and non make-up eras, and it's always a blast. This song was the first time I had ever seen them at all, on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special in 1976. I'll never forget my grandfather saying, "What in the devil is that?!"
😄
Some other reaction suggestions for you two:
'I Still Love You', from MTV Unplugged, 1996
'Shout it Out Loud' (video), Tiger Stadium 1996
'I Love it Loud' (video) from 1982
'Turn on the Night' (video) 1987
Question: "What in the devil is that?!"
Answer: "You wanted the best, and you GOT the best!"
My uncle said they looked like satanic clowns .
WOW! Destroyer was my absolute JAAM in high school!!
Saw them in Detroit January 1978 at the Olympic Arena. My ears were buzzing for 2 days after.
Got to listen to GOD OF THUNDER. That is Gene's anthem!
Growing up in the 70's, Kiss was God of Thunder. Destroyer is a great album, as was most of their early stuff.
70s Kiss THE BEST KISS EEEEEEASY
"Detroit Rock City" is given a separate title line on the Billboard chart book listing as the 7th charting Kiss single but no chart position is listed.
actually, Beth was the B side.
@@LionDenTrials You're right. Radio stations turned the record over and played Beth. That's how it became a hit.
@@LionDenTrials You are right.
Yes, yes and YES !!! Original members for the full experience.
How many times can I like this post??? :)
I just saw them a week ago and they were incredible.
@@cotadog4472 No Fake Ace!
@@espereactions2 double thumbs up !
KISS is always best live! I've seen them in concert 31 times and have never been disappointed.. no other band puts on a show like they do.
Live versions of "Parasite" and "She" are amazing ...well pretty much any song on either Kiss Alive or Kiss Alive II
No Fake Ace though!
Love what you guys are doing! You really need to hear Peter Criss sing Beth and Hard Luck Woman! Beautiful voice with a lot of gravel in it!
one of the great rock anthems. speaking of Detroit, maybe some reactions to Ted Nugent or Kid Rock next???
Stranglehold would be amazing to react to.👍
I actually saw kiss in 2019 in Toronto and they opened the show with this song.. It literally got everybody so hyped
J & Amber, their highest charting song was a soft rock song!! Try their "Beth".
I’ve been a KISS fan since 1978, one of my much older cousins gave me all of his KISS collection before he left for the Army… Belt buckle, necklace, posters, and of course all of the albums… I’ve expanded the collection a lot since then.
If you guys want another *Kiss* heavy rocker, "War Machine" has to be next on the list! 🤘
Love Kiss, Kiss Alive and Alive 2 are great albums, saw them in 79 original band full makeup, awesome show thanks again!
KISS was my first rock band. Clearly, they aren't hit makers or top 40 musicians. They are theatrics. You gotta see them live to appreciate them.
This one is one of their hardest!
my favorite Kiss song. Those drums and strings are amazing
Kiss Army!!
Wife here..Amazing rock band!!!..Pure 🔥!!!..Thank you for the Awesome reaction !!!
🙂
LMAO... she's having an eargasm...and that dear friends is what makes a song legendary. It evokes an emotional or physical reaction.
They take about 1 to 2 hours to do their makeup, and they do their own. Much love. Brandi Modrak 💕
Detroit Rock City is also a movie about some teen boys trying to sneak past crazy mom (Lin Shaye) to a Kiss concert. Really funny and nostalgic for this 70's kid.
Saw them in concert about 7 years ago. One of the BEST concerts I've ever been to!! 🤟
One word… FOREVER! You guys would dig this one! I know it! It’s non make up but rocks!
IMHO, this is their finest song ….. great reaction from you both, watching Amber getting in the groove with the song … very enjoyable… keep it up 👍
It is very remarkable, cool, to get catched by Peter`s drumming drive here.
Ive seen KISS in so many city's in Michigan over the last 40 years. The Detroit shows are always over the top fun!
They put on an amazing show live! Last show was the last tour and people from 4 to 80 were there some all dressed up in KISS paint!
One of my favorite concerts they really put on a great show. Much love to you and your family 💕Brandi Modrak 💕
KISS was my first concert. I saw them in July 1979 at the Omni in Atlanta and I was 4 years old! Check out the song "Sure know something" it has a cool video too.
KISS is my favorite band of all time. I love their music.
Mine too since 1978.
Was never a KISS fan, but the live ones that are good are great.
Strutter from KISS Alive is one of the greatest rock songs ever.
Arguably, their best album. Listening to the whole album is an experience.
KISS Suggestions:
Strutter, Cold Gin, Black Diamond, Rock Bottom (Alive! Album), Deuce, Goin, Blind, Sure Know Something (Unplugged)
Just went to the KISS concert in Detroit on 10/20/23. They opened with this song. The crowd was unbelievable.
First real rock concert I saw. 1976 KISS and they opened with Detroit Rock City. I was blown away
Went to a Kiss concert in 78…amazing! The show and the energy over the top.
I’ve seen KISS live so many times, I’ve lost count! Their concerts are one heck of a show from start to finish….last time I saw them was in 2019. Damn awesome concert
Saw them in Melbourne in the early 2000's on one of their numerous 'final' tours....they were bloody great!
