A mini truck has the underdog factor. If you haul a massive load, it's always epic. If you pass something faster, it's always more impressive. It makes simple things into more of an adventure. 1800lbs on the bed of a Toyota pickup with shot leaf springs.
What year? I just bought a 94 S10 4.3 v6 rebuilt trani 10k ago new fuel pump new brakes new brake lines and new tires... Bought it for $700 with all that done to it
A con not mentioned is leave it parked when ice and snow are on the roads. They have no traction especially on original pizza cutter tires. When I got my first one in the mid 90s I told my wife "look at all the mini trucks, half have front end damage because they get short stopped". Keep distance and anticipate conditions.
Just a tip but try when you mention a car or some other object to include a picture or something like that to make it helpful for us to know what you're talking about :)
How I love my mini truck let me count the ways. 5 speed manual, if it fails a couple hundred for a clutch kit and half a day. (Bonus, anti theft deterrent) Carbourated, a redline kit is $350. Injectors can cost that much for one. Manual steering= lacks moving parts and leaks No tpms or check engine lights to annoy and cause false alarms and costly repairs. Simple distributor, no coil packs and crank sensors. One belt crank water pump alternator. No abs, again another costly point of failure. No airbags, yes the tech is a life saver but the lack leads to simplicity. Low taxes and overhead, a new vehicle can cost thousands the first years in compliance costs. It is something very few young people see and appreciate. In the age of tech heavy vehicles I believe the pendulum will swing back to more spartan vehicles.
Ya well my S10 has 1-ton axles and stiff enough leafs springs and suspension that I can put a smaller to mid-size round bail. Which being a farm boy is a little helpful.
Lmao i’m 6’8 and I’ve got a first GEN Mightymax love my little truck. But I had to make custom brackets for the seats lol I basically sit on the floor😂
I did a run down of all the options my 80s truck had in comparison of a new truck. A page and a half was tech items that didn't add to the basic functionality of "go there get that and take there". The coup de grace is exactly the same mpg. Side note... new cars are collecting your data when you connect your phone and "sharing it" with third parties.
Loved my 94 I was kicking myself for parting with it. Then I stumbled on an 87 with 35k on it a decade ago. Idk if I put a thousand miles a year on it, if my commuter fails it's ready, if I need to load something it's there.
I’m 6’6 with a 36” inseam and I fit pretty well in my 02 s10. I bought it for 750 and putting a v8 in it. Haven’t driven it much but I was comfy sitting in it while doing some interior stuff.
Just found the channel 🤘 I was searching for mini truck content. And found the pros and cons video and, man this is exactly what I wanted to find in the beginning of my search. I like the channel I wanna check out a couple more videos of the truck. 🙌
I own 3 pickups and the smallest one is still a 6500 lbs half ton. They do have there places for work but since the majority of my daily work is just driving, I’m thinking about getting one of these cause the 5.3, 454, and Cummins don’t get anywhere close to 20 mpg.
Hey everyone , I’m about to buy my first pick up truck and I’m having a hard time picking one, so far I’m considering a true mini truck like a Nissan hardbody, a Datsun so far and I really need advice on what would be the best ones . I wanna custom it and work on it, so anything helps please
CnbZeus 951 go with a nissan i got my 95 hardbody as my first truck and it’s been great. it’s perfect for work and i’ve customized a lot of it to how i like it. and it’s pretty damn easy to work on!
Datsun/Nissan 720 is a solid choice but try to find one with minimal rust and only so much you need to repair or replace. Same goes for the D21 Nissan Hardbody. For Hardbodies try to get your hands on a 90+, 93-95 are the best years to buy. As far as aftermarket goodies or options, they are there but it's not like other brands that have a big saturation in that department. So custom made or home brew is your best bet in some cases. Repair or replace is fairly easy and cheap. Although beware some stuff is discontinued By Nissan. Hope that helps, good luck. (1993 king cab 4x4 owner)
I bought an 80 luv in high school it's a 4x4 4 speed I did upgrade to the Perkins turbo diesel from a late 80s s10 has over 700k miles on it still runs like a champ I use it to do yard work it's so light it weighs almost the same as my 1200 ranger XP pro and it's legal to drive in all 50 I have to agree for the price of the Colorado compared to a full size truck buy a full size
The people that say things like "thats not a real truck" aren't worth the time anyways. So its definitely still a pro weeding out the simple minded people.
There’s a lot of small truck she can pull 6,000 pounds with! You could also get a small four-cylinder truck that can pull 2,240 to 3,500 pounds with!! There are full-size trucks that can only pull 5,000 pounds!!
Mine has a V8. A carbureted V8. And 420hp at the rear wheels. It does a LOT better at the dragstrip than most Foxbody Mustangs. I'm 6' 240, and fit in mine just fine. The bench seat is all the way back, but I have plenty of room. You missed the biggest thing as far as modifications go. First generation S-10s Make GREAT hot rods and drag racers.
Great video. I'm not sure what it's like where you're at, where I live at a lot of people lower and bag full sized trucks too. Mostly 90s and older Chevy, ford and dodge trucks. I see a lot of lowered C10s
Such good point, to this day is till want a 3.7 Colorado single cab since they can go up against some big v8 trucks and give them a run for their money.
Never considered a s10 to be a mini truck but compared to what we have now I guess its true, I wish they would bring back the s10 as the first gen Colorado sized truck and a 2.8l diesel and 6 speed transmission .
I'm 6'4" big as shit but I got this ass groove in the seat that's fits me well, I'm kinda iffy on getting a new bench seat or buckets cuz mines pretty beat up and idk if I'll fit without that ass groove haha I need an extended cap s10
Look up the payload on the 2001 Chevy S10 payload 1,111 to 1,508 then look up the payload on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1,424 to 2,265 so rated payload on the max S10 is same as a light duty 1500
The biggest issue I have with my 2.8 now with everyone going boosted the truck dosent have enough power for interstate at 70 mph. At best my truck gets 19 and that is literally poking around crawling. I got the same economy as my 350 I'm not worried ima build my 2.8 and go boosted just got to many projects in tut he way of it.
Love the first gens, good choice. I have a second gen 4.3 v6 and gas mileage is decent. About 18 city and 25 highway however I drive relatively slower than most.
not to try stress you out or push you to make content. but where are the vids, I'm struggling to find anything else I wanna watch on youtube. Please drop another vid soon. Keep up the amazing work!!!!
I just got a 2003 S10 with only 1002,500 miles or so and love it. It’s my first pick up truck that I own, unfortunately it stopped running and had to be towed, but not fatal I’m pretty sure
Wait a minute, so in this vid you were quoting your buddy saying "I wish I could buy a minitruck for $200 after seeing how useful yours was" or something along those lines??? So you only paid two hundred bucks for this beast?!?!?!?
You see a 50yr old guy driving an S-10 or a Ranger you think to yourself, "Boy. There's someone who should have studied harder in school. Scratch that. WENT to school."
3:22 hold up a sec. I thought the stereotype was that most of full size truck drivers, or (new mustangs lol) had small penises 😂😂😂 P.s. don't criticize me. This is a joke. (Btw I have an old Toyota. It's a mini truck lol)
Thanks to the economy and the spike in popularity, a shit box 90's mini truck will fetch $12,000 with over 100k miles and sadly old bastards with retirement money will happily pay it.

If your mini truck is as sketchy as mine hitting 80mph is both fun and impressive
It's sad that they don't make mini trucks no more I want one but I want something a little bit newer trucks just keep getting bigger and bigger
Ford ranger
I agree, and it's all caused by the need to have the class leading title in cargo space, interior space, towing capability ...
Get an old one...I just bought a $500 95 s10 put about 300 into it and it's a good lil truck...easy to fix

hell yeah i’m 5’1 and think i gotta get myself a mini truck !
I’m 6”2 and drive a slammed 99 ranger shits a little tight but mini truck fo life
6'4" here with a Dakota. I wanted the Ranger, but it was just a tad too tight for me.
