- Catapult jumpscare 3:42 - Priest sniped at second try - Instead of converting the engineer, goes straight into the enemy base (actual good strat btw) - Ends the game converting the 2 catapults only to kill the engineer you were supposed to "convince" joining your side at the beginning of the scenario Expertly played good sir.
Lulled into a false sense of security there at the start haha. One gets used to the simple design of these missions so you get pranked by the dirty tricks the game pulls on you
At least they improved it from the original! In the original AOE it was possible for the ship to just sail away, leaving you with no options. I see they have now scripted to sail and attack you.
This scenario was surprisingly okay. I got the villager from the Engineers and chose to start on the starting island and expand from there, then I pushed out towards Red and won. Not too bad of a scenario.
The original AoE1 expedition* missions have to be the most sadistic missions ever created, the one in the Yamato campaign still lives rent free in my memory to this day, and they are the only reason why I'm not massively upset about them being toned down a bit for their release on RoR. * : I refer to the no base building start missions as expedition.
Best thing to happen is you convert the transport ship while the enemy units are inside, then unload them on an enemy island (at least in the original I think they were actually enemies). Or drop them off on a reef with crocodile.
Hi Ornlu, I watched a lot of your playthroughs, how would you suggest to an average player to improve their macro/micro skills so that they can at least consistently beat the AI without cheesy tactics? Is the gameplay dependent totally upon dexterity, age or can practice really improve someone's gameplay? Thanks for the quality contents
Well, as you can see from my gameplay, I'm not exactly Viper or Hera in my micro or macro 11. But honestly, just practice builds so you have a good enough Dark Age, and then focus on maintaining constant TC production. Micro and decision-making are things that will come with practice and experience :)
Normally you use your archers, and destroy those two Catapults. Best is use one archer as bait, and use other archers to destroy those Catapults. But Ornlu do his own way.
They changed this scenario a lot actually. There is a lot less land in the original mission, the starting island has no resources and its 100% RNG if you are even able to convert the Transport Ship at the start, because it just sorta does its own thing and will start to run away when you attempt converting it.
This game is gold but way too old, the design is awful for this days. I suggest you to try 0 AD, that game has its flaws but its fairly modern when it comes to mechanics.
@B0GD4N.GB.00 If you mean the Return or Rome (AoE1) DLC then yes, it's really not perfect, but apart from that I'm not sure what mechanics you mean. It's fun and easy to play, you don't get overwhelmed. That 0 AD hmmm... is like a copy-paste aoe3 or something from that age. No problem with that but it doesn't make it it better than this, especially than AoE 2.

This is pretty easy if you just land on purple, he doesnt have anything against your starting stuff.

You must not even convert a villager to win. With your bowmen you can win.
I won by only using the priest, starting archers and the catapult, by rushing Purple, didn't even built anything.
The only thing lost was Ornlu's mind.
The famous Ornlu micro strikes once again 11

Assassins and Island Hopping lol
At least this scenario was kept the same, somewhat. Nice seeing you struggling for once in this campaign.

That was dirty, what a bad luck 😅

Dark rain turns your archers into stealth archers. Hoyohoyo faster monks and faster recharge time.
I loved this campaign! Both the remake and original. It's so broken and adventurous and finicky and it's a joy to play.
Your archers can walk on water.

Convert some buildings when you get a chance?

You're supposed to convert them.
@@KroM234 converted unit cannot be upgraded. So they are weaker than Babylons Heavy Catapult.
@@satekoi but who cares since you can use these catapults to raze Purple under 10 minutes?
Am I crazy or does the RoR music like between 2:38 and 2:48 remind anyone else of the Forest Frenzy music from Donkey Kong Country?
This was a good improvement compared to the original
This is a weird mission. It's definitely lifted from the original AOE1.

14:17 Pretty sure that was from the latest patch. thats what you get for always skipping Return of Rome patch notes 11
This the first champain who i don't play
👍
Though I prefer the original version! I found it easier than this. Those catapults with the faster stones are heinous
