I think they waited too long to make the sequel. This franchise should have been a trilogy. Based around the characters in The First movie. It should have been the Rise of Cobra 2009. The Revenge of Cobra 2011. GI Joe retaliation 2013.
Retaliation got major reshoot. I still remember I waiting for the sequel and they supposed to released in 2012 but because of backlashed from fans, they already reshoot 50% of the movie, soft rebooting by killing original characters and replace with new character. That's why retaliation has zero character growth or backstory. Finally someone who liked the film. I enjoyed the movie. I liked the characters backstories and the way the makers went about it. I wasn't much of a G.I. fan but I liked the movie. The sequel is dumb and shouldn't even have been made.
I'm glad you brought this video back up. This is one of my favorite videos of yours. I didn't really know that much about G.I Joe when I first saw this. I saw it in theaters when it came out, and it really didn't do much for me. But mostly because I knew almost nothing about the original source material. But after watching this review as well as rewatching the movie itself, I like it a lot better. Haven't seen Retaliation, don't really care to, so I'll make do with this movie. Thanks for the education. I know a lot more now.
Shame what happened to GI Joe as a movie series because 10 years on, it deserves better Thankfully there’s a Snake Eyes movie on the way that will hopefully start a new series of movies like what Bumblebee did for Transformers Being made by people who care for the source material and something that can be enjoyed by a new audience

Rise of Cobra has a few flaws here and there but still a great movie. When I first watched it I had no idea what Gi Joe was. Now I'm a fan of the movie and old cartoon series. Snake Eyes is my favorite character and I loved how Cobra Commander was used in this film unlike the sequel
Rise of cobra is absolutely awesome. The best gi Joe movie. Absolutely loved it. I really adore the characters in this movie. Larger than life exhilarating action sequences. Amazing cast. Love for the characters was absolutely shown in the film. Retaliation doesn't live up to its predecessor. Overall having a good watching the film. Vfx cgi is awesome and pretty good. I saw Rise Of Cobra yesterday and I loved it...there was sometimes were I even laughed...then I saw the cover for the second movie and saw shadow...thought he was dead...and the members of the team was replaced...when I get a chance I'ma watch it but remember what you said as I do 👍
Could not agree more with this video! When I first saw this movie when I was 11, I got so into it because it was fun as hell, and I was swept up in the creative action scenes, the fun characters, and a decent story, like you said it had heart. I watched it recently and god damn is it still just a fun ride from beginning to end, yes it has problems but compared to retaliation it was faithful to the source material, it had well done action, was well paced, and had fun characters, that's all I ask for with a movie called G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and this is the movie everyone hates??? Give me a break.

Where the first one got mixed reviews (where it should have only got the negatives ones) the sequel (Rainbow Rocks) got praised by the same critics who criticized the first one despite the fact that it has still the same problems than the first one but just a slightly better pacing, villains and animation.
+TheHulkfan It mainly has to do with 3 things. The songs are really good, the villains are really good, and lastly, the character of Sunset Shimmer. Who quickly became everyone's favorite character.

And I think that people likes her just because she was so bad that they would prefer having her in any other role except the bad gu...erhm, girl. One of the biggest bullshit in Rainbow Rocks is that people talk about character development for Sunset when, actually, there isn't any. In the span of one movie she has passed from being a cunt to be a completely different character and not in a positive way. We don't see her growing into that character and we continuisly hammered down her past actions just to make us feel bad for her. That's already bad enough but then we got the point that the writer has to make all the other characters like Twilight complete morons so that Sunset can look better. That's lazy writing.
Unforced relationship of Scarlett and ripcord? They never ever had a relationship to begin with when it came to the comics and cartoons because she was Snake Eyes girlfriend/wife for over 30 years and they never showed that relationship in this film at all so the Scarlett and ripcord relationship was literally forced

The animation hasn't aged particularly well, but the characters and especially the dialogue is so much better than the movies. And the story is similar to retaliation but way better imo.
