- The Prophecy of Ice & Fire foretells of the Invasion of the Others & the fall of man coming out of the frozen North. But what if the others invaded Westeros much earlier during the Dance of the Dragons instead? Would the forces of man be able to band together in time to beat the Others back? Or would they face extinction?

Awesome video! Your right about the number of Dragons being a double edged sword. Having so many will help defeat the others yes, but if the others managed to kill a few and raise them back up. Westeros would probably be doomed.

I think it would all depend on how many members of the night watch there is, obviously if the walkers are able to take them out at once leaving only few survivors it’s game over. They’d need to send multiple ppl back since both warring sides wouldn’t believe it wasn’t a trick from the enemy

they would be unaware of ice spears in an initial encounters. You can by default give the night king 3-4 dragons and probably vhagar because they would come in with him first and he would be the first to go down with no plot armor, easy slow target.
I think daemon would probably keep caraxes at a distance since like u said they wouldn’t know what the white walkers are capable of
It wouldn't be one sided like most people would believe that's for sure because GRRM wouldn't allow that. I think he intends on ice and fire to be as deadly as each other so going from that I have no doubt that the walkers based on that would have something to equalize the odds
People won't like me agreeing with the show but if what the Night King did in season 7 is anything to go off and if it's true the walkers are so cold they can just extinguish any fire that comes their way that to me seems like that equalizer
The walkers are living ice demons and they are supposed to have super human strength if I remember correctly so controversial maybe but I'm not unconvinced by some of the things from the show. I think some of this stuff could be plausible

The HBO white walkers lose with mid to high difficulty.
The book version of the Others, by the end of it will leave the eyes of every man, woman and childs eyes blue.
The night king is a dumbass who exposes himself on the field.
The white walkers dont show any strategy beyond just throwing all of their troops at the enemy and they are ridiculously vulnerable to being phanton menaced.
The wights in the show are weak and feeble and crumble easily.
The show walkers are not dependent upon the prince that was promised to be defeated. So anybody could do it.
The book Others have no night king (that we know of) and have had no indication of a phantom menace weakness.
The book Others show actual strategy when they co ordinate their attack on the fist of the first men and use deception on the nights watch in the Waymar chapter with the wildling bodies.
The book Others are also HEAVILY implied to be in the posession of not only giant spiders but also at least 1 giant ice dragon which is essentially a white walker dragon.
The prince that was promised was not alive during the dance so the only one prophesised to defeat the Others wouldnt be able to help.
The wights in the books arent weak and are as strong if not stronger than they were in life, they're also immune to dragonglass and require burning or being cut to pieces to kill, which is no easy feat.
The Others main advantage is time. The longer the war, the stronger they get, every soldier or civilian they kill, joins them, every dragon they kill potentially to. Every dog, bull, horse, bear, wolf, lion etc. Joins them.
The white walkers in the show numbered around 20/30 whilst the books have their number at the very least to be 99, but likely much more as that number only pertains to crastors sons who became Others and there have been stories of human babies sacrificed to the Others for thousands of years in the north and beyond the wall.
The book Others also have camoflauge armour, can dissapear into the night like shadows and can emerge seemingly from thin air, add the fact that they are experts at seeing in the dark and that the long night will plunge the world into darkness, unlike the show which had no kind of effect. They pretty much have the ability to appear and dissapear at will in a world that is without a sun and covered in snow, ice and clouds, see dragons that cant see them and use their presence alone to incapacitate soldiers with a cold that damn near freezes their internal organs.
I say the book Others win with low to mid difficulty.
If the book Others have the same ice spears as the show and can resurect fire dragons then its a wrap, once they get one dragon it wont take long to get all 18 or 19 of them. They win with no difficulty. There's a reason that the world needs a magical prophesised saviour to defeat them because they can never hope to do it themselves, even with 1000 dragons.
Yea the show Others turned out to be a big disappointment. D&D turned them into your average run of the mill monsters by the end, whereas in the Book i think of them as more of a force of nature or Death incarnate. I have a totally different picture in my head when reading the books compared to the show.
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 100% agree, the history books and characters in asoiaf always speak of the Others as a world ending threat wheras the dragons never are described such power. I think when they finally show up they’re going to show the world and the readers just how much of a force of death they really are. Death incarnate is the perfect description for them, the cold in our own world has always been synonymous with death in poems and stories. ‘’You can pry it from my cold dead hands’’ is an irl phrase which always reminds me of the Others.

Fire will dismay them, though, and they are vulnerable to obsidian.” He remembered the one he had faced in the haunted forest, and how it had seemed to melt away when he stabbed it with the dragonglass dagger Jon had made for him. “I found one account of the Long Night that spoke of the last hero slaying Others with a blade of dragonsteel. Supposedly they could not stand against it.”
“Dragonsteel?” Jon frowned. “Valyrian steel?”
“That was my first thought as well.”
We also know the last hero yielded dragon steel to destroy the others at the time of the first men as well. Confirmed in books. Jon kills a white walker in the show with longclaw and arya kills the night king with the cats paw dagger which is valyrian steel as well.
During the dance of the dragons more of these weapons existed.
Dragon steel is more than likely 100 percent Valyrian steel.
Now we also have dragons and many dragons at that which means dragon fire. Confirmed in the books and show to kill wights. Undead army not a fucking issue think of what three dragons achieved like with the field of fire during aegon the conquerors takeover. Or what was done in Dorne during the first dornish war think the dragons weight.
Any targaryen with a dragon will have no problem just Dracarys and let them fry.
I don’t feel there wouldve truly been a long night situation had it happened during this time period the these villages the first men didn’t have mass amounts of Valyrian steel or dragons for that matter.
If the others came during the dance of the dragons the targaryens would probably team up against a common enemy to keep targaryen blood flowing due to pride and history of their race and needing to remain in power over the seven kingdoms.
Then given who survives the situation say it was equal on both sides black or green either they will resume their war with each other after or there would be a clear new ruler of the seven kingdoms.

I had to go back and add more to this because this topic is interesting and I’m on break so if we’re going by just show things about the night king being a threat what have we seen the night king has to pause to raise the dead around him, this makes him weak. he’s the only one who can resurrect. Now back to book stuff dragons can burn other dragons i feel if they are taken down solution keep burning regular fire can’t kill a dragon but who is to say after all in the books sunfyre and moon dancer showed that there are parts of a dragon that are vulnerable, and dragons died in Valyria so at that point what are you resurrecting ash or a part of a dragon? getting wild dragons I believe the wild dragons would not allow such they would disappear I believe dragons are smart they’d take off. More on the show night king how fast can the night king throw a spear ? Not to mention if he was tricked by arya grabbed her by the throat and didn’t kill her a small girl what would he do with aemond on vhagar at his front and someone like daemon targaryen who would more than likely come around his back hop off caraxxes and split him in two with dark sister. 🤷🏻♀️
