Hey Tom, how's life as a salesman? Hope it's going well!
V-Spec does stand for "Victory". It's to commemorate Nissan's success in racing with the R32.
@@takumifujiwara13954 I still think they should’ve made a Bathurst edition of the GTR
@@TheRacingJokerThey made a Bathurst version of an RX7, I guess.
As a kid I jokingly thought “M” in M-Spec could have stood for “Motorsport” because of the luxurious aspirations of the trim lol. Capt. Bradford’s sources is as good as it gets I suppose.
I could see that. But even before I spoke to Bradford I knew the M-Spec was the luxury/executive style GTR with the leather interior and the special suspension.
@@TheRacingJoker my Motorsport theory came from how BMW M cars tend to finagle creature comforts into a sportier oriented set up vs a regular 3 series or etc. After this vid, I realized I overthought the meaning of “M” in M-Spec entirely.
I think the V-spec does stand for victory, yeah that Ford GT does look cool, and I quite like the latest WRX, in a world of suvs/crossovers I'm happy some saloons/sedans are being made.
You should take what Bradford says with a grain of salt. He doesn’t think that final gears has anything to do with acceleration. (3.545 vs 4.11)
The initial "M" was named with multiple meanings, including "MAN (adult sensibility)," "MAXIMUM (the best driving pleasure)," and "MEISTER (the craftsman's commitment)."
@@jeromeespiritu9461 I… what?
@@TheRacingJoker yeah so there’s multiple meanings for the M.
@@jeromeespiritu9461 interesting. Ah well. I’ll just stick with Mizuno. Mature sounds kinda sus
@@TheRacingJoker hahaha or man
What about the claim that the R34 GT-R was planned with a V6 to replace the RB26? Is that true? I read from a Wheels online article claiming it to be so.
I recently heard this claim as well. I can't say for sure it's true or not but I'm glad the RB26 persisted for so long!
@@bam_henry indeed true
So that now electrification is bringing down the fame of our japanese tuners like WRX STI. I insist that Nissan should end the GT-R generation on the r35 for good because my heart will be broken if the r36 is all electric or even hybrid
Hey, it's too obvious that you reading a prompt for the video, would be a bit better if you looked more into the camera, it's kinda weird you know, but good video
@@matheusbastos6429 yeah I gotta work out a way for me to have a script and still look at the camera
I don't know that translation of M-spec being Mature sounds like a basic Google translate translation and Google translate like Wikipedia isn't always correct. That's like saying we all thought that RB meant race bred but it actually means right born, it just doesn't make sense. M-Spec being Mature is false advertising because nothing about the R34 Skyline GT-R is meant to be mature, it's a homologation road going race car there's nothing mature about it.
"Mature" is actually completely fitting for the M-Spec, hence why most agree that it's still one of the variations of the name.
When Mizuno took over, he thought the ride on the V-Spec was too harsh/highly strung. The entire idea of the M-Spec was to be a more compliant car. The Ripple-Control shocks and suspension was setup to soak up more bumps and reduce tramlining, specifically tested on the Autobahn where the V-Spec would've hopped everywhere. The interior as well was upscaled with leather, heated front seats, a more powerful heater, overall and wiper de-icer(? if I remember correctly).
Softer ride, more interior creature comforts? Yeah it's a more "Mature" GT-R. People always forget in the glaze that the R34 GT-R in reality was a bankruptcy project by Nissan, not the holy grail of "homologated road going race cars". Mizuno and Watanabe wanted to fit it with a new aluminum V6 because they already knew by the late-90s that the RB was getting too old. Nissan had no money to develop one, so they also had to ditch the plan to make the R34 GT-R a front midship. Instead, they shortened the R33 and worked on improving aero.
The V6 development ended up becoming the VQ, which the JGTC R34s also ran, and in-turn the VR38 in the R35.
Run along now, liars run your world
