It's not necessary to remove the roots, but the crown area has to be lifted out. If you have mediocre amounts of it, injecting 1ml of 450 glypho kills a big plant with minimal collateral damage. Carry 300ml in a 2L pressure squirter from Bunnings or bigw. (Modifying it a bit with glue to stop it locking on.) Injection is done with a 7mm drill bit, or dropping some onto a cut stump and watching it get sucked in.
Here 5 years later 😅 I had a lot of this plant overgrowth in my back yard, been trying to get rid of it for 2 weeks now and I've been doing a good job. I used the same method you used because I'm planning to plant a new tree and I needed the space to be cleared out, but damn this plant can spread roots all over the place! I tried cutting it from the top at first but when I knew how wide the roots can spread I decided to dig around it and just pull all the roots out even the smaller ones because I do not want it to grow back, I'm exhausted from all the hard work I've put into trying to get rid of it and I'm still going at it, there are so many of them everywhere 😭 but I've gone a long way and I'm not stopping any time soon until I get rid of it all snd next time I'll be sure to watch for any new ones and pull them out before they spread again. So wish me luck 🤞🏻
On the mid north coast NSW for the past several years my husband has been removing lantana on bush properties and hes still removing this invasive plant. The struggle is real 😔
Thats terrible Lillian, surely it would be in the best interests of the government to remove it considering its a noxious and WoNS... I hope you find a way to get rid of it!
Fire is your first weapon if you can get it to burn, but it comes back. I have done significant work using a 5L spray pack and 8% glypho solution, but it kills everything underneath... But that may not matter after a big fire goes through, because everything changes. Now I'm trying to suppress with injection, cut stump. Still heavy work, and through dangerous terrain covered in growth. Think of it as excercise
I'm thinking of clearing the lantana that way, but then running pastured pigs through the area to get animal impact and for them to root up any left behind, get animal impact on the area, and then seeding with native grasses and using animals to control the regrowth.
I’m so grateful I found your video, I had no idea how bad it was I’ve been cutting it down drying it out and burning it to cook dinner at night I’ll stop doing that now
Wow, Lantana grown in pots make beautiful plants. I love the beautiful carefree plants. They are sold in containers and are expensive in my area. They die back in cold weather.
Hoocho thank you for your quick response. Where I live I don’t think it’s wild, I think people buy it and plant it! (Having tackled one today I can see it’s quite a beast and annoyance) Really like your removal method. That fall was epic! RIP Picky.

Do that on 2000acres and tell me how easy it is.

Loved the vid bro.And normal ,funny and practical
Half of my farm is covered, nothing else grows around it. No help from government.

Use a brush cutter.
Get a fire through and nail the suckers once they start too shoot. Easiest way I've found

The roots might be poison your pigs!
Yeah but it strikes easy so any little bet left behind, even part of a root, and it can grow back.

that's amazing, Hoocho, how DO
you do it?
It's called a nissan with loop chain, don't make me come and show you...
I heard it was also toxic to burn?
Don’t like poisons. Been trying to do this on over fifty acres. It takes forever.
Hi, why is lantana useless as compost? I’m gonna cut up and shred lantana & see if it can be composted.
because it has toxins in it.
The struggle is real. I'm surprised you're not wearing more protective clothing! Lantana can cut you up bad.
Yeah true

Not much cold weather in Australia.
they are an invasive weed that poisons native plants and eco systems.. best to keep it contained in your garden. Poisonous to dogs and children too!
Lantana in Texas doesn’t grow like that.
How does it harm humans and or dogs? What makes it toxic? Should one avoid the toxin?
Only if ingested, so as long as you’re not in the habit of investing lots of lantana you’ll be fine.
It’s more for livestock that may graze on it.

That fall was epic! RIP Picky.
The toxins are contained in the unripe green fruits and it shuts down the liver causing jaundice, photosensitivity and a slow and painful death.
Lol Picky!
