  • Development of the PzH 2000 (Panzerhaubitze) began in 1987. It evolved from the international SP70 programme, which was cancelled in 1980s due to funding problems. Prototype of the PzH 2000 was completed in 1993. Initially German Army planned to order a total of 1 254 new self-propelled howitzers, however in 1996 a contract was signed only for 185 artillery systems. First systems were delivered to the German Army in 1998. Export operators of the PzH 2000 are Croatia (12), Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. In 2013 Qatar ordered 24 of these howitzers.
The PzH 2000 is fitted with a 155-mm / L52 howitzer. Vehicle has a fully-automatic loading system with ammunition management system. The PzH 2000 is compatible with standard NATO 155-mm ammunition. Maximum range of fire is 30 km with standard HE-FRAG projectile and 40 km with rocket-assisted projectile. Maximum rate of fire is 9 rounds per minute. It is capable of Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) firing. A total of 60 rounds are stowed in a magazine.
Secondary armament consists of a roof-mounted 7.62-mm machine gun.
The PzH 2000 receives target data via datalink. The gun is automatically laid using the fire control data.
Front armor of the PzH 2000 provides protection against 14.5-mm rounds. All-round protection is against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. Explosive reactive armor can be fitted if necessary. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with automatic fire suppression and NBC protection systems.
The PzH 2000 has a crew of five, including commander, gunner, two loaders and driver. Target engagements can be carried out by a crew of two men. Loaders are employed only when autoloader fails.
Chassis of the PzH 2000 uses some components of the Leopard 2 main battle tank. Vehicle is powered by the MTU MT881 Ka-500 supercharged diesel engine, developing 1 000 hp. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with auxiliary power unit, powering all systems, when the main engine is turned off.
The PzH 2000 is reloaded by two operators. Projectiles are automatically picked up from the back of the vehicle and stowed in the autoloader's magazine. This self-propelled howitzer is replenished in less than 12 minutes.
    Hope you enjoy!!

12 of those have now been through one month of most intensive combat use, reportedly firing up to 500 rounds per day per howitzer - many of them with the maximum propellant charge. In recent footage one howitzer was seen with completely worn down track pads, indicating it had moved several hundred kilometers on paved surface (given it arrived with new pads in Ukraine).
While there where reports about some of them requiring maintenance and repair after those weeks of heavy use, Ukrainians seem happy with them as they placed an order for 100 more with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.
It's quite impressive that this beast is more than 25 years old, yet there is still no other tracked howitzer on the market nearly as capable. The only 155mm artillery system slightly better in key parameters is Archer - which has a slightly different operational profile.

On PzH2000 can be used also the sub-caliber Leonardo OTO Vulcano 155 ammunition, development and tests of german and italian defence agreement. Operational tests were made for BER (ballistic extended range) and GLR (GPS long range) with GPS + IR or SAL (laser) guide sensors (made by Diehl). For BER range should be 40 - 50 km, for the GLR more than 70 km.
Italian army made in november 2021 an operational test on Vulcano GLR with PzH2000 in an exercise in Qatar.

They already have other self propelled howitzers with 155mm guns in the game now, don't they? I haven't played it in many years, but I still occasionally watch PhlyDaily's videos.
I don't see what about the PzH2000 would make people rage. It is a good piece of equipment in reality, but in the context of the game, there is nothing about it that would make it OP.

So, firstly, I’m a small arms guy, as an MP the most I might get is an M2 or Mk19. So the first thing I noticed was the MG42….errr…I mean…MG3. Awesome to see Mustache Dude’s Buzz Saw still kicking it 76yrs later. Next is that those MG3’s were set up the old way with aircraft sights. But I’m afraid that if you’re using a 308, even one with such a high cyclical rate, for anti aircraft duties against modern aircraft your wishful thinking. The 3rd thing is that they are actually issuing a PDW to the people that were supposed to get them when the concept was devised. Also kinda interesting that like like it’s bigger brother, the MP7 is also a bit of a buzz saw.
Last, even though I was an MP I spent my entire career with rare exceptions on an artillery base. So seeing how quickly that German gun system went through its load cycle and how fast it traversed and elevated after the reload was very impressive! I’ve watched older generations of the M109 not get anything close to that speed for down and up! I know the auto loader has something to do with why it has to T&E so quickly to get ToT, but dang that was pretty. Reminds me of watching an old M270 MLRS taking a minute or more each to go over and up vs. the newest version that took 2-3 seconds to slew to a target. Very impressive.

Hi just asking but has anyone heard of a game called sprocket if not I would highly recommend watching and giving it a look, it’s a game where you can build your own tank and unlike most tank building games your tank is completely customizable such as building an abrams, challenger2, Churchill, tiger and even some random things and whatever you want, the tank also has a customizable armor layout so you can have either thin or thick side armor or have a 200mm rear armor and 5mm frontal armor

      @Bitt3rh0lz 2 роки тому +2

The PZH 2000 loads semi automatically, the shells are stored in a rotary magazine in the bottom rear of the vehicle. The loader only inserts a powder charge into the barrel. The PZH 2000 also has a turret basket, so the loader is to the side of the gun at all times. (Unless the gun is fired by the long line of course)
So technically the loader should never be in the way of the guns recoil.

there are about 30 differend small to very large Truppenübungsplätze in Germany, from small test ranges like Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 91 Meppen where missile and projectiles are tested to the full blown high tech digitalised Gefechtsübungszentrum (Combat Training Center) in Altmark, where NATO Partners like US, UK, France etc come to train simulated combat with AGDUS (Lasertag upgrades for every soldier and weapon, that trigger when firing blanks, including MBT´s etc), because it is more or less the only Traning Centre in the NATO that is doing this.

Since near peer wars have become extremely rare, almost no army, not even the US Army or the Russian one, really have much experience with that. The closest the Russians came was the Georgian War a while back and that revealed many, many problems with Russian equipment and training, which is why they started huge modernization programs afterwards.
In the end it is always speculation what you have to prepare for in the next real war.
That is why there is this saying: "Armies always prepare for the last war, not for the next one." because experience with previous wars and educated guesses about how the next war might look like, are all they have.
The same can be said though about armies who did fight successfully in big, real wars. They too didn't know for sure whether their doctrines, methods and equipment would work before the war started.

PZH2000 can only fire special German made 155mm rounds with weaker charge to fire more rounds per minute and they are not compatible with NATO 155mm which damaged barrels during Ukraine war. What that means is that the US and S Korean made 155mm NATO rounds can't be used in PZH2000 thus client states have to rely on German 155mm round made for PZH2000 only. Ukraine fired 5,000 artillery a day compared to 50,000 rounds fired by Russian army thus not using compatible NATO 155mm will suffer with ammunition shortage during the war.

It certainly was a great weapon in it's time, but compared to newer weapon systems like the Russian 2S35 "Koalitsiya" it is old technology.
The 2S35 reportedly has a rate of fire of 12 rounds per minute, which is very high for a gun of it's caliber, and a maximum range of 60 km.
