You might try adding a little more timing in the 2000-2800 rpm range to help with the back firing issue. We usually set up the timing to be all in by 2200-2500 rpms. JD
Got that off idle dead spot... maybe a little more fuel at idle, or a different fuel pressure regulator, if your running one. Carbs can benefit from one too.

Something everyone forgets now that injection is the norm is accelerator pumps. It sounds to me like not enough fuel. Needs a bigger dump. Sometimes changing accelerator pump cams will help. Hell, I still have a box of different cams for Holley carbs when I was building different cars.
