@@jesuis244 It really does actually. Spy's gameplay and personality is all about waiting for the opportune moment, using the least resources and effort to achieve the maximum effect - it makes sense. Intercutting those scenes with the rest of the vid would show his talents as far as gameplay, and how he is an asset to the rest of the team. I wish I was an animator lol

I think this as a prequel to the whole Meet The Team shorts: The game is starting, Red Spy does his speech, then everyone is running away from the base starting to kill every BLU they encounter. While Red Scout is distracting one of the Heavys, Red Soldier is going to massacre the rest of the BLU team. Red Heavy does his "CRY SOME MORE" routine and Red Sniper is aiding everyone from high places, while Red Demoman attires the remaining enemy to a bomb trap. It's night, BLU Soldier is warned that a "RED SPY IS IN THE BASE?!" and rushesbto the Intel's Room, not knowing that Red Spy is already in the building, infiltrating and killing, and now ready to kill him and his other two comrades. Red Spy Retrieves the Intel but he is discovered, to his aid comes Red Pyro who start massacring the entirety of the BLU Team in his delirious hallucinating killing spree. This feels like it would have been part of a “Meet the Team” video. As in the entire team, showcasing gameplay focused not around any one class but rather how the different members of the team work together for a victory. (One example idea in my mind opens up with Soldier killing a Sniper to allow Medic and Heavy to uber behind Spy who is sapping an enemy sentry to clear a path for Scout and Pyro who grab the intel together. Pyro secures Scout’s escape by airblasting something, Scout is defended from pursuers first by Sniper, then a sticky trap from Demo, and finally Engie’s sentry nest. All this leads to a black screen and “Victory.)
I like how this is technically an animated look at what Spy is like in the comics. In game he tries not to engage with mercs and tends to be very rude. The closest we get to this is the Expiration Date animation where he tries gathering everyone for final wishes. However in the comics he opens up way more than that and his jabs become more friendly. He's the charisma of the team and this feels like a great look into what that would have looked like animated.
I knew they were holding spy back! The characters never got a chance to stretch his legs till now and that animation was top-notch! Reckon that's getting a replay
Don't forget that this is not confirmed to be the first version of Meet The Spy. I think that they made everyone say the same, and only one of them would be chosen to voice act Spy. That's why it was the first thing the Spy voice actor recorded.
this would have been REALLY cool for a release trailer it makes it clear that every class has a unique talent, and their own weaknesses, and that you NEED to work as a team to bring it all together.
That speech was awesome, makes me wonder if it can somehow fit into the original meet the spy, or this is a part of a very old meet the spy script. P.S: i can't see this to be the whole script of a scrapped meet the spy video, given how short it is. That being said, it's really nice being alive to witness such part of the game's history being unravlled and brought back to life, I can't imagine another possibility where the community isn't as passionate causing the game and its history fall into irrelevancy. Thank you Dennis Batmen for voice lines. Thanks shork for resurfacing this treasure into the public. And thank you altranade for polishing this gem and bring it back to life.
This is the definition of Team Fortress 2, the idea that they all have their strengths and weaknesses but together they will literally show Mother Nature what they're made of.
This is so awesome. Almost like being made by Valve themselves. Reminds me of the Expiration Date Spy speech scene, so I can see the writers of the short may got some inspiration from this original recording. The Meet The Spy short we have is better imo for the game's theme but it's nice we can see what Meet The Spy may look like before the change.
Dang that sounds like it was done in one take! Very good recreation in SFM as well! I always found the meet the spy trailer more high quality than the other trailers!
Out of all the SFMs I've seen (and believe me, I've been around the community for a long time), this has definitely come closest to the spirit of the originals produced from VALVe's house, lots of detail here. It really helps that Dennis Bateman is using a microphone that's really close to the original recordings, usually the VAs don't really give that polish when they're working with community members.
Okay, original meet the Spy sets the gameplay mechanics and shows how badass he is. This, right here, builds a character and shows how wholesome he is. I would follow that man to the edge of the world

I really like this, but I think its more likely that this line is from an early script of Expiration Date. The motivational monologue is very reminiscent of when Spy was talking about everyones final wishes.
This speech goes so hard I decided immediately after watching this to preform this as a monologue for an upcoming school theatre assignment (hoping it goes well!)
the look and feel of the meet the team videos was captured PERFECTLY here my goodness. it’s uncanny how it feels like this video was with the rest of them the whole time, amazing work
Considering TF2, I have a feeling it was supposed to end with Spy's head getting blown off by Soldier suspecting him to be the Blu (or Red) spy before saying b*tch, while real enemy spy steals intel amidst the chaos. It feels more in-line with earlier meet the video this way (brief introduction of the class with a quick gag), and it makes sense that it got cut as later meet the videos became more narrative focused.

I knew they were holding spy back! The characters never got a chance to stretch his legs till now and that animation was top-notch! Reckon that's getting a replay
"The natural state of nature"
The floor is made out of floor.
Don't forget that this is not confirmed to be the first version of Meet The Spy. I think that they made everyone say the same, and only one of them would be chosen to voice act Spy. That's why it was the first thing the Spy voice actor recorded.
Now that is so interesting. This is the first time I’ve heard of Meet The Spy’s original intended script and it was nice to see it animated.
And this adds to the long list of why I love Spy.
When you realise that spy has more charisma than we will ever have
this would have been REALLY cool for a release trailer
it makes it clear that every class has a unique talent, and their own weaknesses, and that you NEED to work as a team to bring it all together.
This feels more like a replacement of the expiration date speech he gave during the bucket scene. Perhaps this speech was inspiration for that speech
I honestly can see Spy being the team leader
Especially considering he’s supposed to understand both the enemy and his teammates well enough to act and disguise as them
This should have been used in an official short film it is so good, also fucking hilarious as TF2 always is
lil bro medic be lookin like a soldier right there 💀
1:34 spy says "bitch"
funi
This feels more like a speech for Expiration Date than for Meet the Spy. It's still cool.
feels to me more like a cut version of spy's speech from expiration date
More like the expiration date speech was inspired by this one.
this is... poetic... i needed this on my life... i thank YOU for sharing this with the internet ❤️
That flame retardancy point felt really personal towards the pyro.
Good Lord... how in the earth this badass never on meet the spy? Come on Valve.
Dang that sounds like it was done in one take! Very good recreation in SFM as well! I always found the meet the spy trailer more high quality than the other trailers!
this sounds more like expiration date's monologue....
That man in the video is very handsome and well spoken. What a fellow!
Ikr
This looks more like an Expiration Date speech, it would fit there
This feels like a cutscene to an Xbox 360 game
You're gonna lose your mind when you find out what consoles TF2 released on
@@AltraNade I know
Well TF2 was available on Xbox 360 via The Orange Box. So...yeah.
He called Pyro a what? 💀
0:57 Spy in smash bros?!?1!?1
This looked as if Valve gave us a new animation. Much love to your work!
The clock is ticking gentlemen. Let’s begin,
this is pretty interesting and quite different vibe altogether.
Okay, original meet the Spy sets the gameplay mechanics and shows how badass he is. This, right here, builds a character and shows how wholesome he is. I would follow that man to the edge of the world
"Spy among us, genttlemen"
I feel like this is an original draft version of Spy’s inspiring speech before he begins on every man’s final wish in Expiration Date.
God damn, Spy has spent his whole existence being a charismatic speaker for the team. Awesome.
This should be a official valve animation
Ive been playing halloween maps since oct 1, and after weeks of playing i completed all of the main contracts for extra pumpkin crates. Merasmus was the final boss, and i beat that earlier. Id never seen this until just now, and im imagining that its an unlocked cutscene that was achieved by 'saving' halloween and tf2 in general by playing so much, and now... I have chills, and going to que up for regular matches on some classic maps like hydro or badwater. Gentle, synchronize your death watches...
sounded like he's suppose to be the group leader
I really like this, but I think its more likely that this line is from an early script of Expiration Date. The motivational monologue is very reminiscent of when Spy was talking about everyones final wishes.
This speech goes so hard I decided immediately after watching this to preform this as a monologue for an upcoming school theatre assignment (hoping it goes well!)
Love it when spy says “We really are, a team fortress 2”
we live in a 2fort..................
Brother they would have peaked if they added this and THEN the actual ending of meet the spy, with all the dead bodies on the floor.
I saw this on twitter a few days ago and this animation really impressed me! I really love how its so smooth and cinematic. :)
damn this script though
in the absence of that gif (you know the one) emojis will have to suffice.
🔥🔥🔥🔥✍🔥
lots of words for "with the power of friendship we can overcome anything"
Bro, I wanna a comic of how they all met, like how they greeted eachother individually
To be absolutely honest: this would be PERFECT as a Prologue for the Meet the Spy we actually got! The two mesh so together!
i really like the one we got, i feel like this one does not capture how it feels to play spy or how he is at all, really glad we got the one we did
That Dennis guy sure does sound like Spy!
What if he is actually the VAfor spy 🤯
the look and feel of the meet the team videos was captured PERFECTLY here my goodness. it’s uncanny how it feels like this video was with the rest of them the whole time, amazing work
I'm really glad they Found a Lost Spy voice line for 'Meet the Spy'.
Great job on Animating this!
Bro that is one of the hardest lines ever heard, they CUT THAT??? BRO WHY??
