    I was negative about it. But after watching the movie, I realise many techniques are really helpful for my child too.

    Actually, I feel following any of these esoteric therapies like Son rise, RDI etc has its own pitfalls.. I am not sure about the gains the child made. Putting things beyond a child's reach to elicit communication is common sense and eye contact development can be achieved through multiple ways... engaging the child. I think parents should pick out elements of merit from all therapies and design their own structure and methodology.. what actually works for your own child and leads to development in all spheres.

      I've been to the Option Institute & worked briefly with the children that came there myself. This is NOT about merely 'putting things beyond a child's reach'. It's about joining the child's world in a non-judgmental, loving way instead of demanding they join your world. To do this, you have to be become much less judgemental and accepting of your child , by realizing they are doing the best they know how (as are you -as we all are), while you can still want them to grow and eventually be with you. Autistic children are very sensitive to their environment - including the emotional environment surrounding them ( which is one reason they engage in repetitive behaviors and will want to be alone). When someone sincerely joins them (NOT merely copying their behavior), this provides opportunities for the child to realize that they are affecting the environment around them - when the child moves, another person moves with them - this starts engaging them in a way that is comfortable for the child and they start directing their attention towards you - in baby steps of course, but little by little, they come out of their shell that way. The program provides many examples of how to encourage your child to join you in your world while engaging them if you are having some problems. That is how the Kaufmans (Berry and Samharia) bought their own severely autistic son out from his 'shell' and then helped many other people as well. Read the book 'Son-Rise' to read about their journey with their son, Raun. It's very inspiring! Raun now heads the program his parents started.

    What is the difference between son rise program and ABA?

    • @sundarj8174
      @sundarj8174 3 роки тому

      ABA is evidence based. There are a number of peer-reviewed research papers on its efficacy. Son rise has not been researched extensively. It is mainly a family led program. That said it might be worth exploring .
