Imposter Syndrome: It's Not You, It's What Happened to You | Sheaba Chacko | TEDxChattanooga

  • Despite the recent outcry that says, “stop telling women they have imposter syndrome” Sheaba has found a Hidden Truth about imposter syndrome’s roots as she works through her own baggage and helps her clients resolve theirs.
Imposter syndrome is the byproduct of having to project “The Representative Self” approved of by society at the expense of rejecting “The True Self.” So instead of leaving a legacy, this duplicitous living lends to a litany of physical and mental health struggles.
Sheaba believes her personal experience with imposter syndrome may have a universal message for anyone who lives on the margins of mainstream life and has spent their lives trying to press in to what their culture defines as “normal”. Sheaba is a courageous leader who knows how to lead others with her own vulnerability. Always known to march to the beat of her own drum, Sheaba ejected herself from the typical South Indian career pathways of Engineering and Medicine to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Despite the disapproval and stigma associated with mental health, especially in communities of color, she pressed on to open her private practice, Fearless Permission! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I've been struggling with this feeling for quite a while that I have already identified as Impostor syndrome. However, I didn't know the complexity of its root, it makes all the sense in the world given my background as a firstborn who had to take care of my siblings so young. Now I'm wondering the relation between ADHD and Impostor syndrome since its similar patterns/traits. I'm so grateful to find her talk just in time. Thank you so much!

Exactly same story here! And also thought if the both connected - IS and ADHD… the main question is how to heal trauma?? Is it even possible?

Honest, insightful and deeply honest & revealing discussion or explanation of imposter syndrome. She gives a description of the mindset and thought process- in an easy unpretentious or common sense manner. Thank you!

I love the way she speaks! She's witty, grounded, informed, she's connected, she's a great story teller/sharer! Thank you- this is what I needed to hear. It's helping me understand myself better after today I was unexpectedly given a public accolade "shout out" on Facebook from my amazing church family with my face plastered on Facebook and instead of feeling instant excitement and gratitude.. I burst into tears sitting in my vehicle and begin crying like a baby because of overwhelming feeling of unworthiness.. and discouraging feelings of "why me!".
Then I found this video that helped me better understand myself.
Thank you- I've got work to do on myself 🙏🏾 💕

One of the main insights of Zen is that there is a serious mismatch between human desire and the available world of people, places and things that are in a constant state of flux…Human desire is boundless and mistakes the transient world of people, places and things as the destination which are rest stops on the way to its true desire which is called many names but source will do for now.

In some spiritual pathways sensing feeling like an imposter is a starting point to realizing the possibility of your true nature…Greeks called it the false persona required by society but not reality.🐇

It means you have a gift they were trying to exploit. While others probably didn’t believe the extent of the intimidation tactics. I do this is the stuff Life Time movies are made of (horrifically unbelievable REAL events.) Whatever they tried to take exploit or quiet… is priceless use it and get vindication.

I can say only one thing, you don't know what you are talking about.
I have never daubted my abilities and my intellect never ever in my life.
I know what my invention is, I know the quality of my work which is superior.
I know what my grades were in elementary, high and university, I know that I learned two foreign languages after I have graduated, I know my logic and know my IQ, wherever I go I never doubt of my success, simply I am ok under my skin, never scared or having doubts, simply this is nonsense for me in this case Imposter Syndrome as you call it.
I advice you to read philosophy and religious books you will understand better the things.

You can as well write or make your own presentation to the world and tell the world that you are the best person, having the best grades and having the best self confidence. That would be awesome.
You will also have people who will relate with you. Not everyone has the same experience in life though. Different people have different experiences in their lives. So stop drawing the conclusion that she does not know what she is talking about.
What if I tell you that I identify with her and that you are the one who does not t know what you are talking about?

I have battled with this for the last 32 years of my life. Going from one trauma to another, to another my entire life has f*cked so much up for me but now I am taking responsibility and taking back my power because the biggest thing I had to do was forgive myself for not knowing, doing or being better because, as you said several times, “I could only do the best with the knowledge I had at the time.” Thank you for an extremely informative talk and for raising awareness for others, just like us. ❤️

Why does she talk like that? I feel like she's talking to children or she's having moments of being a robot. Why the spaces between words and why split single words up into their syllables constantly? Really hard to follow this talk with all the random stops in the middle of sentences and then saying some words really slowly and others split up.
