@@ampersandcastle1091 THAT IS SO COOL!! did u study greek and latin alevel? If not, how did you choose the language you're working on now and how are you finding the options and choices of the degree in general - and anything interesting or unexpected about life at oxford?
@@cevelineok I’d never studied anything classical at all before uni, and I actually didn’t know you could until I applied! So I went in absolutely blind lol. I chose Greek kinda just at random. My biggest tip for you, and something I didn’t realise, is that you’re not just choosing a language, you’re choosing whether you’re focusing on Greek or Latin literature. You’re basically choosing a specialty. I have done very little on Latin or the Romans throughout my degree. So I think the most important thing to figure out is whether you would prefer to study Greek literature (the Iliad, Odyssey, Euripides, etc.) or Latin (the Aeneid, etc.). If you’re not already sure of this, I could recommend some texts to read in translation. There are many times I’ve cursed my choice of Greek (since I think Latin is a bit easier?) but ultimately I’m glad I chose it since I’m a lot more interested in Greek mythology.

Such a lovely video Ruby! I went back to university last Monday for my last year as an undergraduate and it is just delightful to go back to classes, to the library, even to have homework ahah. I wish everyone a nice week! :)x

I have had a particularly terrible day today and watching this brought me to tears. So I just wanted to say thank you for creating mindful and calming content and for keeping me company throughout my studies

Ruby - I have enjoyed watching your clips so much - especially as my son and his wife are both graduates of Jesus college - now both in their forties and living in a village close to Oxford with their children. Have recently started reading The Fortnight in September that mentioned - so down to earth and so enjoyable. Wishing you all the best in the future and keep making the clips.
I am glad you brought up the connection between writing pace and thinking pace. I always rotate print, cursive (yes I'm old), and keyboard depending on the thinking speed I intuitively feel I need. It makes a difference. BTW, I was telling a friend over dinner how glad I was you ❤ Mr. Wilde, and she suggested we both read Dorian Grey again for our next get-together. It was so important to me when I was younger, and what a remarkable book I found it again!
This was such a lovely and inspirational video. I watched it before I began my own studying session. I absolutely love these types of videos. Also, I recently purchased the same Marauder's Map blanket. lol

"The writing and reading of a line of poetry is an expression of power." A snippet from one of the articles you were reading, very thought provoking. It reminded me of the late Palestinian poet Refaat Alareer. You might like his well-known poem, 'If I Must Die'.

Hi Ruby 🤍 I am in my last year of studies and try not to be heartbroken by the idea of never coming back to uni. I built so much of myself around academics, enjoyed for many years the comfort of a fixed path. As the field of possibilities opens with active life, I feel lost. Great times will come with this new chapter, maybe I am just sad leaving the one that I knew and loved. Could you make a dedicated video to share your thought about this transitional time? Kind greetings from Paris 🤍
Hey! Thank you for another lovely video! Your clip of your to do list made me curious. Could you share a video about how you plan your videos? How you plan when to shoot, edit upload. The entire process. How you've stuck to your authentic self while growing your channel is an inspiration and I would love to see the behind the scenes of what goes into it as someone who wants to start a channel
You are such an inspiration Ruby! It would be so beautiful if you someday would like to make a video on reading with notetaking and organization - like how do you manage it all? (To read so much and then be able to remember things) (:
My university offered the possibility of getting a VPN installed so you access all their catalogue from a different location in case you needed it. It is a very common service among unis, so maybe Oxford University offers you the same? In case you need to download or read something from home.
My university provides access to journals with non-student logins (and I mean anyone at all can sign up and login using any e-mail address) as long as you’re accessing through the university wi-fi.
