I've learned that instead of cramming meet ups with friends in before/during the holidays, it's easier to just make plans with them in January and February. That way, there is still a lot to look forward to during the time of the year that can be lonely and mentally challenging. My friends and I love it because it's a lot less stressful and we get to enjoy each other more.
Last time we got together, one of my friends was getting her instructor hours in by teaching a silks class (where you hang and do yoga from big silk cloth hung on the ceiling). Then we went to dinner at an authentic China restaurant (the same friend is Chinese) and we all had a wonderful time talking and catching up.
Also, this year, my husband and I left the Christmas lights on outside. This is the time of year we need the coziness, fun and cheerfulness. I think we take them down too early.
Also, I try to make things cozy as much as possible. And I really got into this when I started watching Ruby's videos back long before she went to Exeter.
I burn candles when I work, I put those ambience videos on for music. I make tea or cocoa, put on warm socks and get under a heated blanket...all while working.

When you were speaking about women in print it reminded me of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. Women with bound feet in Hunan, China were not taught to write because it was men's work. They created their own language through embroidery and sent fans and other feminine crafts to communicate with one another. We must keep searching out the voices of women in history!

The bookbinding seminar looks amazing!!! I want to look into learning more about bookbinding. I first became intrigued by bookbinding from reading Kate Carlisle's cozy Bibliophile mysteries which focus on a San Francisco bookbinder. But from my work as a bookseller for ten years, I came to love books even more than I did as a literature student. Now I work at a public library part-time in addition to teaching online classes. But I would also love to learn bookbinding, too!! :D

This will work through the tangles better and cause less damage than brushing from the middle (from a fellow longhaired person - I didn't learn this until I was much older!).

Hi! Good luck in your new semester!! ❤ I wanted to ask you how do you do your study timelapses? I have an Android phone and I tried an app but I don't really know the intervals to achieve something like your videos. Thanks !! 😊

Hello, just so you are aware if you are not taking vitamin D you should be in Canada it is recommended 1000 but I have recently been told by a friend who is an ER nurse & her friend who is a doctor that we should be taking 3000 in Canada. So, I highly recommend taking more. I started at the beginning of this month when I found out and I have had one of the happiest Januarys ever. I bet if everyone who is up North more just ups their amount a bit more, they will have a better time dealing with the winter months. I hope this helps you. :)

I was wandering is there is something like summer school at Oxford? Like we read books and have lecturers but it's not so intense? And for foreign students too?

Hey Ruby! Which author is crime and punishment from? I've heard about it but I'm unable to get ahold of it.

Ruby, is the book binding course part of your MA in English and is Professor Nicholas your professor?

Appreciate the professor sharing a bit of his knowledge with us via your vlog. So older book bindings are kind of a fingerprint for the book, to find out where it came from?
