Actually, there's another Gran Turismo demo came out a year before GT5 Prologue which is Gran Turismo HD, same like Gran Turismo 2000, came out as a launch title and demo/prototype, set in one location Eiger Nordwand but has more car instead of one in GT2000.
@@scottoleson1997 It's not avalaible anywhere digitally (unless you previously downloaded it) as it got delisted something like 15 years ago, it was replaced with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue when that first launched. There is however a physical region free version that was only released in Japan. It's called Gran Turismo HD Concept Install Disc and is rather expensive, expect to pay at least US$200+ (it goes for £150+ in my country) for it.
Isn't anyone gonna talk about the fact, that the menus in GT5 Prologue look way more modern, than the menus in GT5? They really should've kept the menus similiar.
This was the basis for a lot of the criticism from the fanbase when GT5 was released. Polyphony lost their minds with an overproduced menu system that used up too much of the PS3's resources, and it made the experience very clunky, when they should have just kept the smooth and more streamlined menu system from prologue.
As kid in primary school, I was SUPER excited for GT5 Prologue. I feel like a lot of the presentation style in GT5P was actually better than GT5 and subsequent games. I really liked the dealership with how the 3D models had different camera angles. The gameplay definitely suffered with nearly no good ways to make money. I remember doing a daytona race in my Ford GT non stop to try and make cash. The in-game economy is probably the weakest point of the game, but it was still fun!
Having played 5 Prologue's online, you weren't missing much. Races were sorted by class, and everybody generally used the top tier for a class. 15:07 This _thing_ was the most popular pick for it's class as a majority of any public lobby would be running it.
Man this game back in the day was mind blowing. I used to look at screenshots of it and be like "I can't tell this apart from a real photo wtf???". Also remember being in a Gran Turismo group on ORKUT (old ass social network Google used to own, before Facebook exploded) and people would post their lap times or photos of their wheel setups and such. I wanted to own a PS3 just for that game, but I waited until the proper release of GT5 to get it as well as the driving force gt wheel and it was the right call I think. Especially because by then the slim ps3 had released and that console was much more reliable than the fat models. Of course, getting a PS3 was one of my best and worst decisions, back in the day I was miserable because most of the big games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption had better versions on Xbox 360 or even ran poorly on the PS3, but these days (especially after softmodding it), it's one of my favorite consoles and the library of exclusive games is great. I could go on and on about the list of games I absolutely love on that platform. All of that started with 13 year old me looking at GT5 prologue screenshots and being like "damn, I want a PS3."
No mention of Gran Turismo HD Concept? You should look into that. It’s basically Gran Turismo 4 but with slightly different physics and REALLY cut down content.
This was my first foray into Online Multiplayer alongside F1 Championship Edition, it was a lot of fun, if I remember it was random set events with certain cars used for each event and BHP limits. Also the Prologue has a secret debug menu that Polyphony forgot to take out the game, there's a button combination you have to put in for it to appear, and it lets you unlock all cars immediately, I tested it on RPCS3 and it does work as well, it may be on a specific version of the game
This game helped shaping the MUSICIAN I am today, believe it or not! The amazing, clean and modern menu combined with the smooth jazz/lounge interface were amazing and made me wait eagerly for the GT5. When you buy the car and it "jumpscares" into you, along with Yudai Satoh's Current of Times man... it gives me chills just remembering of it ...
5 Prologue was great, it was the first game I ever ordered online since it was a bit obscure and not on shelves around here. I remember watching Classic Game Room HD make a video about it way back then and it looked amazing for it's time, photorealistic even and I had to get it even though it wasn't a large game Got me really hyped for GT5 as well and that took a while to come out (funnily enough it wasn't even that long but time flew differently back then)
I play it on emulator since DoVe made a video about it and it runs better than full GT5. I like the no- nonsense approach to this demo. It only has Premium cars and it reminds me of the try- out- playstations in german electronics stores ( MediMarkt/ Saturn) that it ran on back in the day, Everybody wanted to drive the then brand new R35 :) Dont forget to access the " secret options menu" :) It could use more tracks but its a demo so you cant have eveyrthing...
I didn't find GT5 Prologue disappointing at the time.. you've got to remember this was 2007 and it followed GT4, just drift events, online mode and having ferrari were mind blowing for GT fans and not to mention the huge physics upgrade it brought in. GT 4 had great physics but I think the PS3 era really brought the physics of semi sim semi arcade racing games into a new era. it was more realistic but still accessible, it made drifting easier at the same time (not easy, but easier) and cars felt more like they had weight which moved differently based on the weight of the car, its suspension setup, drivetrain and weight distribution. I got more fun out of it than I get out of most modern Forza games really aswell and I've said it before and ill say it again, the "standard" vs "premium" car issue is blown wayyy out of proportion, i'd understand the disgust towards it if they had say 25-50 premium cars and 800 standard but they had nearly 250 premium cars! that's enough on it's own but they decided to add more...
this was my first gran turismo game, as a kid i only liked arcade racing games, but when we first got a ps3 this was one of the games that came with it, i specifically remember me and my dad both agreeing on for whatever reason, the hood and/or interior camera was alot easier to drive with, and i haven’t played any gran turismo until gt7 came out and now it’s the only game i play these days
I used to have this game when it was brand new! It was actually quite fun as much as it was a little taster. It was fun to see what the next game will contain!
A couple things, about a year or so after release GT5:P became part of the rerd-case "Greatest Hits" for the PS3, with the traditional $20 pricetag attached for those games. Also, GT5:P had some of the most difficult base events in the series up to that point IMO. It wasn't until GT7 Prologue, I mean Sport, that they allowed themselves to set harder gold times while keeping the bronze and silver easy to get.
Man i grinded GT5 Prologue's online mode so hard with my trusty old Logitech G25. I remember being in the world top for a while in the Ferrari 430 and the Integra DC5 on High Speed Ring. No one could beat me. Such a good game back then. Spent just a fraction in comparison of the time in the full GT5.
Prologue came out 3 years before GT5. I think it's important to point out. This was for a long while the only Gran Turismo you could play on PS3 unless you lived in Japan you got GT HD.
Re: pricing (in New Zealand at least), it cost 100-120 NZD for "full games". I remember paying 65-70 NZD for this at launch, best bang for buck back in the day :)

I wonder how it would have been like if GT5 came out earlier, but with no first person, less cars, but all cars had the same amount of detail as those "semi-premium" cars in GT6, where they have a premium looking exterior, but still no interior. The first Forza on 360 also had no 1st person, so they could've competed closely like that. And we could've seen more "semi-premium" cars than we do in GT6, we could've seen what other cars they would want to include.

If you go to Arcade races & set the AI level to 100, you can see how stupid some of the AI can be (also because almost half of the AI have a car setup for more straight-line speed than cornering) 😂
So nobody's gonna mention that this was a full price title? Why the hell are you and other people in the comments are calling this game a demo and comparing to the actual FREE demo versions of games? Of course this one would have a lot more content. It was the main problem with GT5 prologue: it was a great demo but too small to be considered an AAA game, yet it had the pricetag of one. And if this one is a demo then what the hell is an actual demo of gt5 prologue? A demo of a demo?
Imagine a DEMO having more content and features and everything back in the day than pretty much all triple A racing games today have, it's quite pathetic for the new games tbh -_-

Those jumpscare car prize/buying is so uncanny...especially from Copen/OF-C

It's surprising because this demo came out in 2007. The menu aged very well considering it turns 16 this year!

YES ALL THE WAY!! I loved this game simply because of the menu and OST mix!

The video brought me right back to 2008! So many good memories! Thank you Eden! 😊👍
Those sounds effects are so nostalgic. This game was brilliant. I love games that have a high quality feel like this, GT5 and TDU2.
