I love Genki starts with experimental games, but when Tokyo Xtreme Racer came out in 1999, its where Genki games starts to shine. Really glad they make a series comeback with Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2025.
TXR 2025 is the definition of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" phrase. Why bother doing things differently, if the original is so beloved? Genki knew this and just upped the graphics, added new models and kept the gameplay the same as the older games in the series, and that is why people love this. I have zero regrets playing this game, because it's the most fun I had other than BeamNG and CarX Street.
Sad to see that the old 4:3 games are stretched to 16:9 and also rendered at higher resolution via emulation. PS1 and SEGA Saturn games looked nothing like this.
as a 45 year old adult who played TXR2 and Zero I had no idea they had this many games. I am especially sad I missed the PS2 Drift versions as well as the PSP Wangan version but most of all the xbox 360 version import tuner challenge. I missed out so much on these fantastic games makes me kinda sad lol
@@KamikazeCash123 Also no Shutokou battle mobile games (i believe there was 3 games of those? 2 of which i believe were a demo & a beta, the last one was Xtreme which was abandoned after just 6 months
I didn't like the series until i strat playing the dreamcast is when i fell in love with it and my friends we played iit until part 2 and the PlayStation 2 version and so on throught it next-generation of sequel
While 2025s TXR has the Unreal Engine making everything trying to look as realistic as some people apparently want it, who would instead prefer Import Tuner Challenge's art direction? If I had to decide my opinion would be that ITC looks much nicer, but what do you guys prefer?
would not change a single thing for txr 25 ITC is a fan favorite but art direction wise it was a bit of detour from the charm found in the txr franchise
@@jerzbetter No? You think the grainy low resolution reflections and lighting looks nice? It's incredibly heavy to run for what it is, and it's clearly because of UE5 and how they've implemented its features. I'd much rather have screen space reflections than what seems to be software ray tracing.
@ that is way too geeky of a response. All irrelevant information. Simple fact is, yes, it looks good. REALLY good. Not everything needs to be Gran Turismo visually. TXR franchise was never graphically stunning, but it always looked really sick in its iwn original charming way. I think TXR25 is way way better than anything I expected from Genki and objectively looks great even in todays current scene.
@ Being absolutely honest I get @alexanderstormdahl2562 as they more or less didn't work on the graphics at all. I am working with an architecture program at work which utilizes UE5. Loading into a rendered scene has the exact same look as games like The First Descendant and TXR2025. They all look realistic, but in the exact same way. Usually other games have slight tweaks being in the color or depth of field department for example. But while I don't know anything about game development, I can see many UE5 games where you could just put random assets from those different games into the same envoironment and they would all blend together, as if they were part of the same game. These games may all look good but lack a distinct difference in its appearance, it can become boring. And to strengthen my assumption of devs completely neglecting visuals many UE5 games have ugly parts which makes me despise that engine at times. Tekken 8 has grainy, pixelated hair, no matter how I change my settings and TXR2025 has that film grain which you can see in the roof reflections inside tunnels which really catch my eye. If I had one direct complaint about TXR2025 it would be that they just have to tweak their visuals at least at an intermediate level. But they made this announcement and early access release possible so quickly, because they wanted to get the gameplay first, so I'm hopeful they will polish their game in the coming time and make great additions to every aspect they can give attention to.
Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix was the G.O.A.T. I hope Genki pulls more from that title than any other. My favorite JDM Racing game once I had my hands on a chipped PS2 in highschool

Nice work, man, solid video. We’re in the same business, and if you hadn’t made this, I probably would’ve. Good luck and hope you get mad views!
Thanks!
I have all the Dreamcast and PS2 versions.
Great vid. Missing the PS3 Wangan Midnight

I would honestly choose the Mobile game direction, it looks more colorful & alive, and city was always full of light

in the description it says it was left out on purpose.

TXR 0's car collection was unmatched tbh and the OST while some of it is in 2025 it still missed some classics!
i remember strugging with the emperors in that game I had to engine swap my car to beat them was so hard back in the day lol
There's like three tracks total in TXR25, sincerely hope they add like... 100 more tracks.
I'd LIKE to try the earlier stuff, but I just KNOW I'd need to be fluent in Japanese to even try...
Well done!
Bro what happened to the rpm needles for Tokyo highway battle, shutoko battle gaiden, and shutoko battle R
Probably because of the widescreen hack from the emulator.
I had no idea this goes all the way back to Super Nintendo
same here man!! I missed out playing Top Gear on SNES when I would've much rathered played those!
