I figured they had some type of Affiliation , Genki actually made the first wangan midnight game for PS2. It was themed version of what we now know as Tokyo Extreme Racer.
The reason why this was the last game and felt a bit rushed was due to Genki themselves. Since they made the Drift series and the other arcade games they were being stretched thin. So thin that the people that were the modelers basically left the team. Due to budgetary reasons Ive heard. The Wangan being closed was because in IRL it was under construction and so they only modeled a little bit of it. The parts of it being unfinished are quite weird like under the bridge there is just the void instead of a plain water textures. Or the other floating arrows that never opened for the other roads, the AE86 being in the game as stock and having some of its parts but unfinished etc. Overall this game being released was almost a miracle since once the modeling team gone and left Genki with whatever they had. Also it being on the Xbox 360 was due to Microsoft trying to get into the Japanese market so they convinced Genki to release they're game on the console, effectively making its own grave.
There's also rumor that, due to PS3 hardware being notoriously hard to code on, Genki had a hard time developing the PS3 version of ITC and just dropped it entirely for XBOX 360.
Yeah, it’s a cool game. It has great customization but the car list is weak! It’s also stupid how a *Japanese* game only came out for the XBOX 360 (an 🇺🇸 console) and not for the PLAYSTATION (🇯🇵)… Always disliked that aspect!

While the wanderers in this game can be esoteric, if you bother talking to the people in the PA you'll actually get hints to wanderers. Like how the one you talked to that was vauge requires you to drop your car as low as possible in tuning (which since you're in a PA you can do right away and change back after) Doing this is actually required to face one wanderer in particular. the series wouldn't have died if ubisoft dumb enough to think to release it only on xbox (at the time, japan wasnt too keen on buying xbox and still is) and releasing it in Japan and Europe. the least they could do is to release it in the USA and name it Tokyo Xtreme Racer X if anyone wondering why wangan isnt in the game, i believe during the game's development, wangan was undergoing some renovations

They have to work for Bandai Namco perfecting Maximum Tune until they saw NIGHT-RUNNERS and they think "this is what people wants, we should bring back the series. Let's negotiate with car companies".
AND IT'S BACK!!!!!!!
Almost fully done zero, just a handfull of wanderers i have no idea how to coax
I'm still not 100% done with this. I still play it on and off. But the strangers and finding out what they want talking to other people in the parking lots takes... a long time. I got this game on day one and recently started again... for the 10th time or so. Still like it.
They need to remake this fucking series man
Wish they’d make a HD one miss this series dearly
Could you review the maxi games? The community will love it
There’s another great game from genki called kaido racer for the ps2. It’s kinda like initial d without all the cool characters. Really recommend it though. Very fun game
What I absolutely loved about this one, is that you could turn the Supra into K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider 😀
the series wouldn't have died if ubisoft dumb enough to think to release it only on xbox (at the time, japan wasnt too keen on buying xbox and still is) and releasing it in Japan and Europe. the least they could do is to release it in the USA and name it Tokyo Xtreme Racer X
if anyone wondering why wangan isnt in the game, i believe during the game's development, wangan was undergoing some renovations
If they released it in the US, they couldn't name it Tokyo Xtreme Racer, because that name is under Crave. Shutoko Battle (the real name) is under Genki
@@JinteiModding oh right, Crave's the one publishing the US versions
wangan isnt in the game because it was rushed, they didnt have time to make it
Well thankfully they are back making a new one.
Nissan Cima? Well that one is rare car to see.. glad this one have it
c1 gp also has "interior" views on ps2
But, there's one road block enjoying the game
It's...FULL...JAPANESE
@@Mx64MaxyImpress sooo? if you were young and not native english you also played games without knowing what is what, lookup translations, there is a complete menu translation in order to help u, other than that brake amd gas bro not that hard
It's inside view pales to ITC. You can't customize it, see working gauges etc. But it's still overall a good game. And anyone complaining about Japanese menus in 2023 really needs to try Google translate, 😂.
aged like milk in the sun lol
Remember their touge series! Goddamn better than nowadays game
What song playing at 0:22
I wish they brought the series back or at least something similar.
Thanks to your video i found Night Runners !
TXR my beloved
Can you do a video on Tokyo xtreme racer drift 2 it’s a criminally underrated touge game with some really cool features and a great car list
It's already on the channel lol
MC in this game is TXR3 DA levels of fast if your car isn’t tuned enough she will absolutely steamroll you.
Skill issue
@@Lembobwaii I’ve see some skilled players lose to her from ITC playthroughs I watched I know I would if I ever got it because she has a lot of Horsepower under her RX8’s Hood for a stage 1 boss. So I will not deny the Skill issue comment.
Next can you review c1 grand prix?
Another genki wangan game but its japannese realese and its legal racing not street racing(sorry for bad english)
Still thinkin about it mainly cause of the japanese text lol
TXR stories > Any other racing game story.
Genki really, really fumbled so hard with this one marketing.
Switching to Xbox went the whole franchise was released on Playstation leaving the fans stranding
Changing the fame from Toky Xtreme Racer to damn Import Tuner Challenge(Probably Microsoft idea) leaving all fans of the TXR on the dark without nothing there are another game and also. The game is named IMPORT TURNER CHALLENGE, BUT ALL CARS ARE JAPANESE ON A GAME SET UP IN JAPAN!. There isn't any IMPORT CARS lmao.
I thought Genki released their own Wangan Midnight game after Import Tuner Challenge
Idk if it's only me but, this game feels like street supremacy sequel ? i recall the name / team same as street supermacy on PSP.
i wish i know this game ages ago. now i really interested on trying it.
cus street supremacy is txr under diff name cus they dont have the rights to the name
I miss those games
i luckily found a jp copy last year, cost me around 30 USD.
"abandoned" its almost like they had no fucking money left, but I didnt expect research anyway.
Of course Ubisoft had a hand in the end of one of the best racing games.
you should play road rage
Good choice that's the Touge:king of spirits series. Road Rage is the PAL naming, did you guys ever get the first 2 games or is Road Rage 3 the only one released?
Good man Dove thanks for another fantastic informative piece respect 🙏 I absolutely loved this savage I played this game to death 👏 😊thanks for the memories 😊
