Yeah, sorry all, the music is too loud on this one, I didn't drop the volume or didn't save the changes to the volume at some point. I apologise, and will fix it for the next Legion, the 3rd Legion, which will be next week.

Now that book 9 is out will you be doing..
Starting Dark Angels part 2.. Plasma boogaloo or an overview on the two armies in 9 ?

Awesome video, one thing I would like to see though is a tiny bit on the rules and explaining what that means for the legion. For example I play Night Lords and we have that outnumber rule (+1 to hit and +1 to wound) so that means we tend to want big or bulky units charging into combat. Fluff wise we are also a recon style army so we favour speedy units. Thus putting the two together, a unit of night lords on bikes is a great and fluffy investment.

The music is SLIGHTLY too loud, but a damn sexy change. Glad to see you're working through the Legions, and looking forward to seeing them.
    Some thoughts:
Since the Dark Angels focus on skilled swordplay over brute force, choosing Weaponmasters, power swords and lots of plasma weapons with some melta bombs to go for your Veterans is a fluffy choice that will be fairly expensive but also highly flexible and useful against most enemies you'll face. Similarly, their familiarity with independent xenocide-missions means Destroyer Squads fit well with their theme, and since they can be given jump packs they'll be pretty fast also.
Heavy Support squads with heavy bolters also become great, with the molecular acid shells.
Going with the BoP set and Pride of the Legion, you could go with 5 Terminators and 2x 10-man Veteran Squads with the loadouts suggested above, and two HSSquads armed with HBs. A benefit for the new player is a low model count, I feel, and these guys will be expensive, moslty troops and very capable. Add support to taste.

Exactly, good points all round. The idea is that the set I've listed can be built in any number of configurations which allows you to have some real fun and will help ease the bank pressure later on.

Funny thing about Weaponmasters Veterans is that they fit the theme for a number of Legions. Alpha Legion fits the versatility theme, Emperor's Children fit the duellist theme, Iron Warriors fit the old (and by their rules mostly ignored) piece of fluff that when assaulting breaches they're as ferocious as Blood Angels, World Eaters and Sons of Horus Legions.
I can't remember but did the First Legion have a lot of Librarians? I feel like that'd fit their knightly theme as good as Chaplains, maybe better since they're not quite as crusader knight as the Templar Brethren and later Black Templars.

@@eddymercan7487 what would you suggest taking for veterans?

    • @eddymercan7487
      @eddymercan7487 5 років тому +1

@@@FD-pi2gj depends entirely on Legion, Rite of War and the rest of the list. What do you want them to do? They're an expensive, fragile unit that can be a high-priority target, so you want them to have a goal to accomplish and a way to do that.
Sniper Veterans are popular but not really my cup of tea. Adding combi-weapons is popular, but I feel like that role is better fulfilled by Seekers and other BS5 units. If you want to commit you could use the Weaponmasters + power weapons + combi-weapons unit I described earlier, but then you have extremely expensive models with a single T4 3+ save wound.
It's been a while, but if DA veterans have access to molecular acid shells you might want to spring for a heavy bolter or two. The suspensor web means you don't lose out in terms of mobility, so that can be a nice way to add firepower to a melee unit without going insane with combi-weapons.
Adding a Chaplain, Praetor or Master of Signals can boost the effectiveness of the unit, at the cost of limiting your transport options (or preventing you from taking a full unit of 10, which can cost you on the "for every 5 guys you can buy one of these" upgrades), and also making the unit an even bigger target. Still, beats just buying a character without a task in mind for them.

@@eddymercan7487 I'm planning on making a dark angels army with pride of the legion for the reasons you said, and I'm new to this, so what specific power and combi weapons would you recommend? I think plasmas are a decent choice, and i like the idea of acid heavy bolter heavy support squads. Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I do it right and get the most bang for my buck

I am struggling with the iconography and the squad markings and things.
For example where in the six "wings" are the battleline marines located? And do they use the nattlefiels role marking of the battleline marines or the icon of their "wing" on their right pauldron?
What about, lets say the apothecarys? I read that each wing has apothecarys in them. Do they wear their apothecary marking or their "wings" icon on their left pauldron?
And is it possible that the "wing" marking goes to the left pauldron and the battlefield role marking on the right?
And well the same question applies for almost any unit and marking type haha

Good video Macca, I'm getting rid of my Fists to start a 1st Army, I'm thinking I won't need a 2k list, as I might just focus on Zone Mortalis. That Calth bundle looks good, add a heap of third part Boarding shields and I'm set hey.

A unit a month is a good first step into 30k..
I really like emperors children.. Soo looking forward to your next entry in the series.. (I really like dark angels after reading decent of angels but waiting for their unique units and the Lion :D)

The Sicaran Venator main gun is Ordnance, so if you buy Lascannons for it you're only hitting on 6s, so it's a bit of a waste.

The Outer Circle I use Heavy Bolters on mine. Half the price and you can pump 9 shots into something each turn when n you lose you main gun.

Actually, as a LONG time D.A. player(from 2nd edition 40k.), he's not wrong, our primarch's name is based upon a thought to be a gay or bi-sexual poet Lionel Johnson, who was close friends with Oscar Wilde, the name of the legion is from a poem from said poet ( The Dark Angel )and "The Rock" was named after a known gay nightclub in Nottingham.
But then the legion has had "Native American" / tribal influences in the earlier editions, and are now seen as more as a knightly /monastic order with deep secrets.
I am a Native American, and no I did not choose the Dark Angels because of the overtones from 1st to 3rd edition, I chose them because of their duplicitous backstories, and the fact that you never really knew which side was being fully honest.
Coming from a person who has dabbled in writing professionally a "multiple choice" past leads to interesting story arcs and complex flawed "human" characters.
Which is ironic unto itself, seeing as every last individual member of the Adeptus Astartes be they loyalist or traitor is essentially at their core well past post-human status.

The Dark Angels are like a Legion of those annoying UA-cam commenters who always go "FIRST!" when they think they're the first to comment.
