That ending was Herculean, as KZ would put it lol So, here are my hot takes for the ending of KH3: 1.) In the next game Sora and Riku will have to participate in the reapers game. Since Sora wakes up in almost the exact spot that Neku does, and also in DDD Neku tells Sora that he’ll “see him in Shibuya.”I personally can’t wait for them to meet Sho Minazuki if this happens. 2.) This is the really spicy take so fasten your seatbelts: I think that The Master Of Masters (or, MoM if you will) is Sora who has traveled from the future into the distant past and written down the events of his life in the book of prophecies. And the reason he goes back to the past is because he fucked up so hard in the future that he needs to shift the timeline so that he can achieve whatever goal he has.
My premonitions for the upcoming Lost Masters saga of Kingdom Hearts: 1. Kairi is the protagonist of her own game: If Kairi wasn't so useless at the keyblade graveyard, Sora would still be alive. I think it would be genius to have a game where Kairi's guilt over Sora spurs her to develop her character and her skill as a keyblade wielder as she journeys to find a way to bring Sora back. I always have a hard on for when sequels take the worst part of the previous installment and turn it into an opportunity for good storytelling. 2.The Anti-Xblade: if seven lights and thirteen darknesses make up a Xblade, then what can be made out of the opposite concentration promised in KH3's epilogue? My guess is some sort of dark/anti-Xblade. Xehanort explains that the world began in primordial darkness before the first light of Kingdom Hearts appeared. If the Xblade grants access to the first light, than hypothetically, an anti-Xblade could grant access to the first darkness. 3. Time Cycles: There's this underlying motif of destiny used unusually often in KH3 (i.e. "if it's your fate", "the future has already been written", "it has been etched", "a true leader knows that destiny is beyond his control"). Some of this is obviously just MoM forshadowing, but what if it's more than that. What if the Idea of "world lines" doesn't refer to alternate dimensions, but rather norse mythology style cycles of time, where from creation to apocalypse, a general outline of events repeats indefinitely. The way the lost masters talk of characters in terms of roles such as "the traitor", "the virus", and "the scapegoat" makes it feel to me as though the characters we've seen so far were not the first to inherit these roles.

The thing I liked the most about KH3 is that the final section is a big love letter for the fans of the series who played all games and also was the ultimate middle finger to those who didn't wanted to bother playing them. I've been watching streams of "fans" playing through the last section of the game while their brain was melting. It's hillarious reading negative reviews from casuals who are salty because they were completely lost, it's like they feel insulted by the fact they didn't understood the story of a game featuring Disney characters. So, they try to save the face by saying "You shouldn't have to play other games to understand this one, it's bad story telling." or "Even if you play other games it still doesn't make sense." The game has some issues but those giving it an under average score are just salty. I've also heard people saying that KH should make fun of itself, the thing is it does but it seems like it completely went over their head. I've also read lots of complains about VA and dialogues, some lines do sound off but by the series standards the VA and dialogues were pretty solid.

I watched the ending again and that’s when I picked up on it Nomura you mad man... also the music during a certain part of the secret ending sounds like the beginning piano keys of Somnus... can we call the next arc Nomura’s revenge??
As character design goes, every Nomura's minion looks like each other. Always the same bullshit, spike hair, big head, leather, zippers, etc.. The emo phase of the early 00's, Nomura is stuck in it even to this day
I didn't get the impression that it was a shippy thing AT ALL. I mean really, apart from his great bromance with Sora, Riku after KH1 always just seemed to embrace his life as a single independent asexual man. Not only that but he never expressed any proper interest in Namine; only his replica did. Him coming to get her just felt like he was the limo driver to be honest, doing his replica a favor.
My theory for Luxord's wildcard also involved another theory about Sora's special power. I sort of feel like Sora has the ability to give pieces of his heart to others (like Xehanort) but also, unlike Xehanort, has the ability to regenerate his own heart extremely quickly. Its established by Vanitas that Sora literally gives a piece of his heart to Ventus to keep him alive, and when Ventus left, surely that should have killed him? Furthermore, Roxas and Xion grew hearts absurdly quickly, both being alive for only a year whereas it took Marluxia and Xemnas several years simply to regain their emotions. This too could be a part of Sora's regenerative abilities. Add in Sora's frequent visits to the Stations of Awakening and him literally repairing his own heart in minutes and that makes a strong case in my opinion for Sora having special regenerative powers, at least for his heart. Back to Luxord's wildcard, or "Joker". Ignoring the potential links to the mobile game, what could Luxord have gave Sora that he thought "might change the tide of battle". What did he have free access to within the organisation that could be stolen and stored in a card? Simple, a replica. Since the Luxord fight happens before Roxas appears, and presumably, Luxord doesn't know Repliku has been yeeted from his replica, it makes sense that Luxord would give a Replica body to Sora to let Roxas appear on the guardians side. This could tie in to the sequel where it could turn out that, by winning the Reaper's game, Sora's heart gets a second chance at life, but his body can't be repaired due to Darkness/Abyss BS. The replica would allow Sora to regain a body and return to life.
35:58, I'm pretty sure the evil Riku you fight is the same guy as Riku replica from CoM, as in, his heart time travelled forward and implanted into an empty replica. The protagonists before that revelation thought he was the real Riku's heart from the past time travelled forward.
okay but the ACTUAL super raw part of the ultima/stopza scene with mickey and xehanort: in the ending of dream drop distance, the EXACT same altercation occurs, but reversed. it's such a "hey, fuck you!" moment.
hayner, pence, and olette met roxas in days. roxas broke hayner's grandstander record. pence, however, met him twice. the first was with axel to find xion. I guess they just conveniently forgot about all of that.
Nah you know what'd be Kino, if you get the Terranort vs. Lingering Will fight, but as the camera pans around your suddenly controlling Terranort with the information bar appearing Information: Defeat the Lingering Will But you can't, it's a fight that you can only lose, but then a cutscene happens that explains why Will's gone afterwards.
I don't think people have mentioned this, of if they've already realized where Riku is in the Yozora Secret Ending: Just as Sora is in Shibuya, Riku is actually in Shinjuku; I recognized one of the buildings in Riku's side, which looked a lot like one the buildings that appeared in Digimon Tamers (third season); I did a quick skim of where Digimon Tamers is based off, and then I found it, Shinjuku. So we're probably getting a DDD treatment in the next game? Probably. And I'd love that. Related to TWEWY, spoilers for A New Day, the city that gets Ereased (or Inversed, as they say) is Shinjuku.
Kairi not really doing anything is the most disappointing part of the game to me. I will note, though, that getting grabbed by the wrist on your weapon arm while being pulled off the ground would leave most people helpless. I don't have to like it, but it isn't completely nonsensical. Also, for some reason, the ending didn't completely hit me the first time around. It was only on the second viewing that it actually made me cry since, ya know, Sora deserves good things and now he's pseudo dead again. All he wants is to be with the people he loves, and he can't get that because of ALL THIS BULLSHIT MAN.
What makes this game even more fun is turning on zero exp at level 25 then all of the end game worlds enemies and bosses pack more of a punch making you want to go out and do the extra content ro get stronger!

Also about the government building from Shinjuku/versus XIII. In TWEWY at the end after everything as they're setting up the sequel they talk about Shinjuku and how it was "lost" in a reaper game. And other teasers about what TWEWY2 might be. Riku being in Shinjuku would therefore still make some sense along the lines of TWEWY story and the Verum Rex stuff.

I mean okay, but I feel like that's just a really ehh conclusion. This was basically my second biggest annoyance with the game's story, besides the Kairi stuff of course.
except he didn't want balance. the xehanort reports stated that he thought the current world was too light-heavy and needed balance. but now he wants to reboot the universe to prevent everyone from spreading darkness. he effectively wanted a universe that's even more light-heavy. the man of balance was secretly a bigger light nazi than light-supremacist eraqus. I can't fathom why in the wild fuck nomura retconned his entire motive. it was nothing short of a disappointment.
What's hurts it more is it's the cliche of the villain spouting this AFTER he's beaten. On top of the the fact that everything Xehanort is talking about is so obviously meant to be directed at the REAL WORLD not KH's World(s) THE ACTUAL REAL WORLD. But you know I saw a motive for evil within this. I like Disney, you like Disney, we all like Disney, but when scrutinized in a more serious, and mature way, as in dealing with issues of actual living and ruling, Disney only provides morals to be taken in a balanced world in real life, the Disney worlds when made 3 dimensional are all so childish and immature in the face of actual, physical dilemmas that as worlds they would be seen as immature, overly simplistic, playing life, etc.
@Xigbar Couldn't have said it better myself. The only challenge she had in her training was Lea, who was also subpar as a keyblade wielder. And MERLIN of all people was doing the training. The most logical step would be her being okay in a fight, but losing pretty fast.

Yes she had an important role, but the way it was shown is so outdated and I can't imagine anyone likes Kairi anymore after this game. Nomura needs help writing his female characters.
The only Western game that I can think of that deals with people being sad in a good way without spoilers would be Spider-Man PS4, and maybe God of War but I wouldn't really count
I really wish we had more time spent with all the characters, the ending where they were all playing on the beach is something I wanted to see in game or we could have seen more interaction between ventus and Roxas instead of them just watching each other

Regarding the “arm above the head” moment with Kairi I do agree I would’ve preferred she put up more of a fight or something similar, but a similar moment happens when Young Xehanort throws Sora into Verum Rex in the Toybox that I notice a lot of people don’t remember in comparison. Not to say it completely excuses either but thought it was worth mentioning.

I don't know but Kingdom Hearts as an IP is owned by Disney and all the OC kingdom hearts characters ( Sora, Riku, Axel, Xamnes etc...) are copyrighted as Disney characters. so I can't see the next arc having SquareEnix worlds unless they do some kind of deal with Disney, or SquareEnix buy the IP from Disney. But after the HUGE success of KH3 I can't see that happening.

Sora popping up in Shibuya is just like in the main Ending to, And I will paragraph this cause it's spoilers for a PS1 JRPG by Square (Not an FF game.). What happens to Kid in Chrono Cross in the main ending, she somehow pops up on Earth. Like OUR Earth. And it looks kinda like Shibuya (I think, been a while since HCBailly's Let's Play.). ......I hope Sora runs into Kid, that'd be surreal as fuck.

Regarding Disney: Look, there is no way in hell Disney is going to let KH just do it's own thing. Think about it: this is free advertising for Disney. Haven't seen the movie? Here's a game to introduce you to the characters and setting. Here's something I found out recently. Disney's hold over Mickey Mouse is slipping away. They've been trying to prevent it, but Mickey Mouse goes public domain in 2024. I'm not making this up. Therefore, I can see Disney/Pixar becoming more involved with Kingdom Hearts. Also, don't underestimate the popularity of Donald Duck in Japan. Seriously, the Donald Duck comics are insanely popular over there to this day. Finally, Disney is the one to own KH, not Square. Besides, there are plenty of Disney properties that would fit well with a darker tone for KH.
Holy shit Feel went fucking ham on gaming journalists at the end, and it was amazing. Personally I don't like this game nearly as much as KH2, it's good, probably the best in the series when played casually, and now my second favorite, but it doesn't even touch KH2 for me. Strong 8, could become a 9 given a Final Mix. btw Hot Take; in terms of Kino the finale of KH2 is way better than KH3 except for a few moments that are fucking amazing.
Welp, KH2 only remembers to heteronormative itself half of the time, and actually gives a damn about spreading the spotlight beyond just Sora when appropriate. Throw in Final Mix’s incredible post game, and yeah, I’d be inclined to agree.
IT hurt real bad when they said KH3 is far superior to KH2fm. i still think of them as equals, not because they have similar elements, but because what KH3 does bad, KH2fm does better. i really want dat KH3 DLC. cause there is only 1 real secret boss (7 pudding and heartless tide don't count). The endgame is pretty much that one boss and the secret reports. The Final bosses pretty much took place in a bland box, not even a hint of flow motion or area changing or manipulation. (sure xehanort bent space-time TO MAKE ANOTHER BOX, what happen to summoning rock towers or throw a building at me for Christ sake!) So their is basiclly no warrning when the final fight happen, i ran into scala ad caelum thinking "wow i have one more world to explore." nope i just the final boss, not warning to prepare (not that there was a need to prepare), kicked Xehanort's ass, the game ended. (i never missed that final door in KH2 so much. i'm going insane) Okay small point that ruffles my feathers: in 0.2, we had the Wayfinder form, were aqua and Mickey teamed up as one unit. Why the fuck was this not applied to Sora, Donald, and Goofy. People complained about not character swapping during the final battle, and i know why it wouldn't work. but a style form where you play as both sora and someone else could totally work. it can even be a layer command where you first play as someone else, you build the meter, then you both combine into one style. (i'm not sure what to hate, the fac the Wayfinder form exists or the fac there proabably wasn't enough time to make, idk, 4 new forms for sora to use in the final battle) i want some DLC so badly. villian KH3 wasn't enough. there needs to be MOAR!
Yeah im with you the superboss was way too easy even on proud. Honestly I kind of miss the bullshit of some bosses in the past. The bosses in KH3 were really well designed and balanced and I kinda just swept them.

What if the Idea of "world lines" doesn't refer to alternate dimensions, but rather norse mythology style cycles of time, where from creation to apocalypse, a general outline of events repeats indefinitely. The way the lost masters talk of characters in terms of roles such as "the traitor", "the virus", and "the scapegoat" makes it feel to me as though the characters we've seen so far were not the first to inherit these roles.

The thing I liked the most about KH3 is that the final section is a big love letter for the fans of the series who played all games and also was the ultimate middle finger to those who didn't wanted to bother playing them. I've been watching streams of "fans" playing through the last section of the game while their brain was melting. It's hillarious reading negative reviews from casuals who are salty because they were completely lost, it's like they feel insulted by the fact they didn't understood the story of a game featuring Disney characters. So, they try to save the face by saying "You shouldn't have to play other games to understand this one, it's bad story telling." or "Even if you play other games it still doesn't make sense."
The game has some issues but those giving it an under average score are just salty.
I've also heard people saying that KH should make fun of itself, the thing is it does but it seems like it completely went over their head. I've also read lots of complains about VA and dialogues, some lines do sound off but by the series standards the VA and dialogues were pretty solid.
My favorite quote my Mr. Feel is him mocking that sentiment you mentioned
“Can I get into this thing, but also skip 90% of this thing?”

As character design goes, every Nomura's minion looks like each other. Always the same bullshit, spike hair, big head, leather, zippers, etc.. The emo phase of the early 00's, Nomura is stuck in it even to this day

I didn't get the impression that it was a shippy thing AT ALL. I mean really, apart from his great bromance with Sora, Riku after KH1 always just seemed to embrace his life as a single independent asexual man. Not only that but he never expressed any proper interest in Namine; only his replica did. Him coming to get her just felt like he was the limo driver to be honest, doing his replica a favor.

My theory for Luxord's wildcard also involved another theory about Sora's special power.
I sort of feel like Sora has the ability to give pieces of his heart to others (like Xehanort) but also, unlike Xehanort, has the ability to regenerate his own heart extremely quickly.
Its established by Vanitas that Sora literally gives a piece of his heart to Ventus to keep him alive, and when Ventus left, surely that should have killed him?
Furthermore, Roxas and Xion grew hearts absurdly quickly, both being alive for only a year whereas it took Marluxia and Xemnas several years simply to regain their emotions. This too could be a part of Sora's regenerative abilities.
Add in Sora's frequent visits to the Stations of Awakening and him literally repairing his own heart in minutes and that makes a strong case in my opinion for Sora having special regenerative powers, at least for his heart.
Back to Luxord's wildcard, or "Joker".
Ignoring the potential links to the mobile game, what could Luxord have gave Sora that he thought "might change the tide of battle". What did he have free access to within the organisation that could be stolen and stored in a card?
Simple, a replica.
Since the Luxord fight happens before Roxas appears, and presumably, Luxord doesn't know Repliku has been yeeted from his replica, it makes sense that Luxord would give a Replica body to Sora to let Roxas appear on the guardians side.
This could tie in to the sequel where it could turn out that, by winning the Reaper's game, Sora's heart gets a second chance at life, but his body can't be repaired due to Darkness/Abyss BS. The replica would allow Sora to regain a body and return to life.
The mystery star is Strelitzia, and the person she was waiting for who was currently one of the darknesses is her brother Lauriam/Marluxia.

Just as Sora is in Shibuya, Riku is actually in Shinjuku; I recognized one of the buildings in Riku's side, which looked a lot like one the buildings that appeared in Digimon Tamers (third season); I did a quick skim of where Digimon Tamers is based off, and then I found it, Shinjuku. So we're probably getting a DDD treatment in the next game? Probably. And I'd love that.
Related to TWEWY, spoilers for A New Day, the city that gets Ereased (or Inversed, as they say) is Shinjuku.
You'll have plenty of time to explore Scala ad Caelum in future games where Sora and co. use it as the site of the keyblade academy.

Kairi not really doing anything is the most disappointing part of the game to me. I will note, though, that getting grabbed by the wrist on your weapon arm while being pulled off the ground would leave most people helpless. I don't have to like it, but it isn't completely nonsensical.
Also, for some reason, the ending didn't completely hit me the first time around. It was only on the second viewing that it actually made me cry since, ya know, Sora deserves good things and now he's pseudo dead again. All he wants is to be with the people he loves, and he can't get that because of ALL THIS BULLSHIT MAN.
That would have been so cursed walking through the Final World having various Soras dabbing at you and default dancing around you.

@Xigbar Couldn't have said it better myself. The only challenge she had in her training was Lea, who was also subpar as a keyblade wielder. And MERLIN of all people was doing the training. The most logical step would be her being okay in a fight, but losing pretty fast.

Regarding the “arm above the head” moment with Kairi I do agree I would’ve preferred she put up more of a fight or something similar, but a similar moment happens when Young Xehanort throws Sora into Verum Rex in the Toybox that I notice a lot of people don’t remember in comparison. But after the HUGE success of KH3 I can't see that happening.

Regarding Disney: Look, there is no way in hell Disney is going to let KH just do it's own thing. Think about it: this is free advertising for Disney. Haven't seen the movie? Here's a game to introduce you to the characters and setting.
Here's something I found out recently. Disney's hold over Mickey Mouse is slipping away. They've been trying to prevent it, but Mickey Mouse goes public domain in 2024. I'm not making this up. Therefore, I can see Disney/Pixar becoming more involved with Kingdom Hearts.
Also, don't underestimate the popularity of Donald Duck in Japan. Seriously, the Donald Duck comics are insanely popular over there to this day. Finally, Disney is the one to own KH, not Square. Besides, there are plenty of Disney properties that would fit well with a darker tone for KH.

Personally I don't like this game nearly as much as KH2, it's good, probably the best in the series when played casually, and now my second favorite, but it doesn't even touch KH2 for me. Strong 8, could become a 9 given a Final Mix. btw Hot Take; in terms of Kino the finale of KH2 is way better than KH3 except for a few moments that are fucking amazing.
Welp, KH2 only remembers to heteronormative itself half of the time, and actually gives a damn about spreading the spotlight beyond just Sora when appropriate. Throw in Final Mix’s incredible post game, and yeah, I’d be inclined to agree.
IT hurt real bad when they said KH3 is far superior to KH2fm. i still think of them as equals, not because they have similar elements, but because what KH3 does bad, KH2fm does better.
i really want dat KH3 DLC. cause there is only 1 real secret boss (7 pudding and heartless tide don't count). The endgame is pretty much that one boss and the secret reports. The Final bosses pretty much took place in a bland box, not even a hint of flow motion or area changing or manipulation. (sure xehanort bent space-time TO MAKE ANOTHER BOX, what happen to summoning rock towers or throw a building at me for Christ sake!) So their is basiclly no warrning when the final fight happen, i ran into scala ad caelum thinking "wow i have one more world to explore." nope i just the final boss, not warning to prepare (not that there was a need to prepare), kicked Xehanort's ass, the game ended. (i never missed that final door in KH2 so much. i'm going insane)
Okay small point that ruffles my feathers:
in 0.2, we had the Wayfinder form, were aqua and Mickey teamed up as one unit. Why the fuck was this not applied to Sora, Donald, and Goofy. People complained about not character swapping during the final battle, and i know why it wouldn't work. but a style form where you play as both sora and someone else could totally work. it can even be a layer command where you first play as someone else, you build the meter, then you both combine into one style. (i'm not sure what to hate, the fac the Wayfinder form exists or the fac there proabably wasn't enough time to make, idk, 4 new forms for sora to use in the final battle)
