When the Brenner era first began I remember liking it very much. And now as a young adult in his early 20s, I still agree with my younger self. The 5 seasons we got of this era were great, don't get me wrong, but if I'm gonna be honest, I'd say only 3 of the 5 seasons were near 100% perfection. And for me, it's Seasons 17, 20 & 21. I do like some of the episodes for Seasons 18 & 19, but in my honest opinion, those 2 seasons have many issues that many can agree with. While this era will never top the Classic era I appreciate Andrew Brenner and the many people bts who made this a reality in the 2010s. And while it unfortunately went downhill again with BWBA in 2018 and the reboot in 2021, knowing there are at least 2 good eras of Thomas's 36 year run on TV just makes me happy. I do hope someday another version of Thomas can spark some interest for us fans, but until then, I'm sticking with the 2 eras of the show I like and fan content.
The brenner era was half the reason why I loved the franchise
I really loved it when Michael White had become the writer for the show later on.
I mean if Mattel can use both old and new Barney than they can easily use both the Brenner era and AEG.
They could just revamp OG Thomas into a Y7 rated series while the small children can have AEG.
Yeah, you're right. They would have kept OG Thomas on the air instead of cancelling it regardless of failure and AEG being made.
The Brenner Era was one of my favorites of the show but there things that could've been better
I agree, of BWBA didn’t happen, I reckon they could bring Boco back to the show and have full episodes about him to show more character

For anyone curious, S21 was originally planned to be a full on regular season with the 26 Episode format, but due to the Adventure Begins being fast tracked in Arc’s Animation Schedule (resulting in S19 & 20 delayed), Mattel Greenliting BWBA out of nowhere, and ARC’s Bankruptcy before reformed by Jam Filled with the original team back (just 200 of the staff as ARC used to have 500 staff), 8 of the episodes of S21 were cut, so they had to scramble around the 18 episodes and JBS so they can move on to BWBA.
You think that another studio would be needed for the mini specials of The Adventure Begins.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967Depends if they wanted to give another shot on the Specials since ARC went Bankrupt in 2016 until Jam Filled bought out their assets, bringing back the team. I think Guru studios would’ve been one of them since THEY were considered until ARC was chosen from the start of the Brenner era.

Great job reviewing the Brenner era. It's my second favorite era of Thomas & Friends! While it's not perfect, but it does a spectacular job recreating the original roots of the show since the Classic era. Whenever a new episode comes up, it makes anyone feel glad to be a Thomas fan. That being said though, I miss the good old days when new episodes come out. Whenever a new season premiers, the fandom celebrates!
For S20 originally going to be the final season, it does seem to remind me on my own take of how to fix S19 and 20 on Twitter by combining most of the good episodes from S19, 20 and 21 to make them feel like a big celebratory finale.
I'm sure that Andrew and the writers want to continue with the show and do more regardless of Mattel and thankfully the show continued after Season 20 til it ended after Season 24 in the BWBA era (though I don't mind it being bad or anything) sadly.

I don ´t know but the fact that the Brenner era is now 10 years is kinda weird to me. And next year is the 10th birthday of „Tale of the brave“ and Season 18.
Wow yes Tale of the Brave is my number one movie of Thomas 10/10 because I have been rewatching this again and again

When I was still growing up as a kid, I still remember watching these Brenner era episodes. And I thought they were pretty good. The noticeable look difference I noticed Was the visuals. If you watch seasons 13 to 16 then jump into season 17, Then you start watching seasons 18 to 21. He completely sees that the Brenner era has improved the quality. The best episodes are actually my favorite episodes from the Brenner era. Some people might have their favorites like Henry's hero but I watched the episodes that were available to me at the time Old Reliable Edward, like The Duncan episodes or the cranky episodes. However My favorite character Percy has taken a “Twist and turn” For this season Of which I was mixed about as a kid. However I can deny that this is actually a huge Improvement that this franchise needed at the time of course.
The Brenner certainly has it's problems, but I can definitely say it was a breath of fresh air after the Season 13-15 basically killed my interest in the franchise for almost 2 years.
When you mentioned that in S20 Thomas didn't get a lead episode. I was just like: "Wait... WHAT!?!"
(I haven't watched all of S20, though I probably should.)
Britt did not leave her company after Magic Railroad. She was still around for seasons 6 and 7, albeit not as prominent as before.

I miss this era so much that I wish they started at this era and not big world big adventures Mattel so have started at this era and not big world big adventures even tho I thank the big world big adventures era is the best era in my opinion

Wow. I must say, that's a good video on the Brenner era. I think it's a great CGI era near perfection. You're right if the marketing was good then the Brenner era would have continued on for more seasons after Season 20 and 21 regardless of Mattel since Andrew and the writers had fun with the show, wanted to do more like keep returning old characters such as BoCo and Duke and character pairings like Duck and Diesel and didn't plan to stop any time soon back then (til 2020 after Season 24 when the show ended) which the company Mattel should have understand, let them have more freedom to do what they want and not worry about toy sales back then. The narrator is an important part of the show and that is something that still fits, even in modern day times. I understand that you want to do these videos as well as your series. I'm up for it.

It feels so weird that Andrew Brenner's writing was in the show in Season 3.
He was writing magazine stories around that time of the show. Also, before he came to write for Thomas to fix the show, he was head writer for Fireman Sam S6 and it’s terrible.

I think i speak for the entire fandom when i say.... God Bless Andrew Brenner!. He will go down in history as the greatest writer of the franchise since Wilbert himself. He gave us so much that truly honoured the past and asked for nothing in return... all that mattered was that the fans we're happy, with solid quality content being presented, and i for one can not respect the man enough for wanting to jump off before Mattel sunk the ship... he wasn't about to let those incompetent, cash grabbing, corporate muppets drag him down to. He did his best to keep a legacy flowing, and we couldn't be more grateful for what we got. Awdry would've been more then proud. ❤
Should the *Revival Era* ever fall upon us... i hope Andrew returns to be a part of it. ✍🚂💙💙💙

If the Brenner era would have continued after Season 21 and the show still continued with no end or cancelation, it would have at least one season in cinematic CGI style just like Series 5 in the classic series. It would be so cool to see cinematic style in a CGI season. Perhaps fanmade CGI Thomas series can do that some day.
Agreed. While it's a shame BWBA ruined things once again, at least there are many fanmade Thomas series to watch that I think are just as good as the real Thomas seasons that are taken interest from.

If Arc didn't go bankrupt and hit entertainment being renamed into mattel creations,not interviewing the kid saying trains go places,but Thomas never goes anywhere,instead of telling him to watch the early seasons of the show and a few dvds,they had to make it flashier and faster paced like paw patrol,none of this would have the.
Would’ve been nice if the Brenner era was still around and the show kept it’s original roots having more expanded upon, then we had the BWBA era where things went down the toilet and now we have AEG. Hopefully somewhere in the future we’ll get the show to go back to how it used to be with people who fully understand the characters. Some characters still weren’t written that perfectly (Henry Percy and Toby are obvious examples), Sir Handel just faded into the background where he didn’t feel like himself since he kept his weird nice knowledgeable personality (none of the narrow gauge engines felt that valued after S18), Donald and Douglas barely appearing and just arguing 24/7, Duck just ranting about things not being done the Great Western way and Toad having the spotlight with Oliver being sidelined and being rude to him, Thomas being inconsistently written, and heck Edward hardly had much done with him and didn’t seem like much of the voice of reason where he still went along with the other engine’s bs (Goodbye Fat Controller and Engine Of The Future) and didn’t try to keep things in order with Thomas and Emily fulfilling those roles more. Mattel seemed to be just valuing marketing of the show rather than caring about the writing, and seemed to have some influence over how things were done. Who knows how how more of the show could’ve gone without Mattel controlling everything?
I agree with you on that. UnluckyTug said that Percy was handled well in CGI Brenner era despite his brave development being undone and Henry has been fixed since Season 20. Thomas is consistently written with his cheeky and mature traits shown one by one in episodes and Duck is mostly in character when he returned. You're right that the show and writers should have more freedom without Mattel controlling everything. A CGI Brenner era season in cinematic style would be cool like before in Series 5.
colin was gonna appear in kotr but was cut, in 2015 sam wilkinson wanted to bring duke, boco, and fergus back to cgi but all of that didn't happen, sam wilkinson wanted to bring the culdee fell railway, bear and possibly d199 to cgi but that also didn't happen, splodge was gonna appear in tgr but was cut and replaced by the mainland diesels, andrew brenner wanted to bring boco and hank back to cgi but mattel denied it
I liked this era from the 17th to 21st seasons. The only episodes that aren't the best from Season 19 are "Henry Spots Trouble"(BANNED episode) and "The Other Side of the Mountain".
That was good. Excellent way of ranking the seasons. What I liked is how you spoke about the characters and which ones were handled well.
My favorite characters that returned were Donald and Douglas but they didn't have lot of appearences which disappointed me a lot
If only other writers give them more CGI appearances and have them in proper character besides Davey Moore.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the Brenner era I do think its the best time in the show outside of S1-5

To this day I think the Brenner era did a better job with Edward than the classic series . I still love Edward in the classic series but Edward feels like a real stepfather to Thomas in the Brenner era unlike the classic era.
That’s nice and I feel the Brenner Era did better with Toby by making him have flaws.

Three days ago I sent off a complete package of information for the attention of Mattel's CEO, outlining a pitch for a THOMAS & FRIENDS revamp. Aptly titled "Thomas & Friends: Old & New", it sets out to firmly rekindle what made Thomas the icon it is to begin with, while embracing a new sense of creative direction at the same time. I hinted at it many times whilst arduously working on it in long laps of time. This video - celebrating what I think was the renaissance that promised something more - came out at a rather synonymous time therefore. Regards, Samuel Farris.

Diesel still act devious in Season 21 and even after it so Daisy's help didn't last long like with other things thankfully.

What are things that made Brenner so special?
So, you wanted to do these kind of videos too as well as your Trainz series, right? I see. Doing two things on a channel that you really like to do can be good. I understand that so if you want to do it, I'm all for it. I'm looking forward to more of that in future. Guess I didn't know that you can be good at this as well but surprise.
Great Video and I enjoyed it! Andrew Brenner was a great writer for Thomas and Friends, and I enjoyed his stories. I remember when Hit took over I remember I was like This isn't the show I remember it to be. When I was in the 6th grade around 2008, I lost interest in the show. In 2016 a year after I graduated from High School, I decided to see what became of the old show and I remember the first episode I watched that he wrote, and It was Goodbye Sir Topham Hatt and When I first saw it, I was like This is the Thomas and Friends, I remember it to be. After that I watched more including the specials and epically the ones written by Sharon Miller. I also remember Brenner wrote Thomas, Percy and The Dragon and that is one of my favorites from the model series. I am still glad the fandom still continues to make more Thomas content including yours and your Thomas and Friends Continued series is amazing to watch and it feels like a continuation of the show and that stupid reboot is just garbage.

Brilliant video! I disagree with most of your opinions though.
All Engines Go is gonna end in 2025 according to GOOGLE, what's gonna happen to Thomas and Friends then I don't know, I know for sure I am very sad we went from those good seasons to the crap of the BWBA era and AEG era even though AEG is a seperate thing.
I hope we will get a continued CGI Series 25 and the rest of the season again, despite the fact it's not as good as it used to be.
Wait AEG is ending on 2025 well I sure hope Thomas will soon be own by another company like Hasbro
@vanessasandoval96 Production. Due to the massive success of the Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go reboot, Mattel announced in their 2022 press conference that the show had officially been renewed for two additional seasons and would carry the franchise through 2025, that's what GOOGLE Said.
They will likely market off the Marc Forster movie once AEG ends.
is S22-S24 canon?
I consider some of the episodes like hunt the truck or a engine of many colors to be cannon but the rest, no.
