    Thanks very much for the explanation and putting my mind to ease that this often seen phenomenon is pretty much normal 👍🙂
    I was thinking that somehow I had put the new cassette on incorrectly or that I needed to try and put even more torque onto tightening the lock ring even more.
    Your channel and website are great resources for us cyclists with normal (not super high end or super specialized) bicycles.
    .
    One potential and serious issue that you did not mention is if someone installs a 7 speed cassette on a hub designed for 8 or 9 speed cassettes and didn´t use a proper metal spacer that is placed between the hub and the cassette.
    .
    cheers!

      I talked about that in this video:

      And in the article about rear hub compatibility:

    hey i was just wondering about something. my shimano cassette is wobbling and its making a small grinding sound. its not super loud but its noticeable so i was wondering if i should still be concerned or if it is not a big deal.

    • @BikeGremlinUS
      @BikeGremlinUS  10 місяців тому +3

      The grinding sound could mean some bearing is toast, but it could also mean that something just needs cleaning or tightening.
      How to pinpoint the source of any strange bicycle noises:
      bike.bikegremlin.com/7153/creaking-clicking/
      Excessive wobble could mean a bent/broken axle (when they bend, it means they have started cracking). You could remove the wheel and see how it acts when you turn the axle and spin the wheel in your hand.

    Sir I'm from India and very depressed because of my cycle i changed my 7 speed shimano freewheel and chain but now it whenever i shift my gear from higher to lower gear it doesn't shift and sounds like clicking i changed the axle but it doesn't works now the cycle mechanic told me to change my hub, freewheel, and chain because it is causing wobble i already spends lots of money i don't know what to do i also adjusted the derailleur properly higher tension gives smooth shifting while shifting to higher gear but gives me problem chain slipping clicking sound in lower gears my problem is totally different please help me what is the main problem 🥺🙏

      If a mechanic had a look, that could be better than diagnostics over the Internet.
      Having said that, you could describe the problem and post pictures on the BikeGremlin forum:

    Have a similar problem but while peddling and the bike is brand new any clue why?

    • @BikeGremlinUS
      @BikeGremlinUS  5 місяців тому +1

      For the same reason as explained in the video. The wheel is turning along with the freedwheel mount, and the freewheel mount is not 100% perpendicular.
      Of course, it’s good to check and confirm that the wheel’s axle and bearings are good, and that the wheel is mounted properly.
